WTFWTK 2.42 - Ask your questions here!

Rules for What The Fans Want To Know:
    • Each user is limited to 1 question per Q&A.
    • Posts that repeat questions from other Q&As or from earlier in this thread, or posts that contain multiple questions, will be deleted and the offending user will no longer be permitted to participate in that particular Q&A. So check to see if your question has been asked and help everyone out!
Be sure to check the posts in this thread before you, as well as previous Q&A sessions!
    • This is for question submission only; not discussion. Please save that for discussion threads, and Q&A answer threads.
    • We will start a new Q&A thread when it is time for more questions, approximately every 2 weeks. So please don't start new Q&A threads.

The figures that can be produced are figures that were in the original MOTU, POP and NA lines, as well as in the mini-comics for these lines.
Characters that appeared in the 2002 MYP cartoon are also fair game.
    Filmation characters are off limits!
Who will be produced will remain to be seen.

We will pick up to 5 questions we feel might get answers at that time. Please do not take offense to your question not being asked.
Also, we also edit questions to make them more concise, to be more specific, etc. Please take no offense to this either, as it's only meant to help.
    It's nothing personal.

***Important note: Mattel has limited the questions to 5 from each site who submits Q&As.
Mattel has also asked not to submit figure inquiries about unannounced figures (eg: When will we see [insert character name])

    --------------

This past round of questions were selected by Bulkhide,
and proofed against old Q&As by Uncle Montork.
Thanks to them for their help!!!

The questions that were asked in the previous Q&A & will be answered in a couple weeks as follows (please do not repeat them, or questions from previous Q&As):

    1. Tallstar: Does Mattel have anything to do with the the 25th Anniversary She-Ra DVD set that Classic Media have begun soliciting to retailers? They mention a mini-comic as one of the extras, and many of us were wondering if this was something new or possibly a reprint of one of the mini-comics that came with the vintage figures.

    2. DreamTripper: Is the character Songster from the He-Man and She-Ra Power Tour within Mattel's rights to make as a MOTUC figure?

    3. Scorpia: In a previous Q&A, you stated that Light Hope was a Filmation-designed character but that you may be able to create a different version of the character with the same name. Are you aware that Light Hope appears in his 'aura' form in the mini-comic 'Where Hope Has Gone'? And if this changes things, can you envision creating a character so far-removed from the human form?

    4. Predabot: Why was She-Ra's skirt made of a much less pliable material than Evil-Lyn, thereby limiting her movements, when you said that all females moving onwards from Evil-Lyn would have such pliable plastic?

    5. Sailoruranus: Back in 2009, you told us about the faceless one being on tap for may 2011. Now that its 2010, can you give us another sneak peek at a figure scheduled for 2012?

    --------------

    So ask those questions!

You've mentioned that the general idea when choosing a characters color scheme is to use their classics version before anything else (whether it be 200X, Filmation, and/or possibly NA)

But so far with every re-release in this Classics line we have only seen the same color scheme that was used before with no changes made (still no Filmation colored Hordak, 200X purple Evil Lyn, etc).

So my question is when can fans finally expect to see the first re-release of a figure to have an entirely different color scheme? If there are multiple color variants and versions available is it possible for the repaints to be given a fan poll as to which colors they would want most?

So far, did you wrote the bios and only the bios or did you wrote a big story (or a bible) which the bios are based on? If you wrote a big story or a bible, did you hire a professional story writer in that purpose or is it the work of regular "Mattel MOTU fan employee"?

Are the techno vest and the corodite armour 2 different things?
If so, will we ever see the techno vest in the line?

EDIT: Never mind. Already answered, allthough it doesn't make any sense, lol.

There are rumors going around that the MOTU movie has been shelved again. Is this true? Can you give us some information about what stage the movie is in currently?

The old Star Comics series featured some interesting original characters (not to mention movie Skeletor on the cover of the final issue!) that would add depth to MOTUC. If Mattel was to be interested in producing these figures, would your relationship with DC Comics, or the fact that Hasbro has the Marvel toy license, be an issue in obtaining these rights? I'm not asking if you are currently pursuing the rights, just curious if this particular licensing issue would be made more difficult by outside factors.

Does Mattel own the rights to the unique characters depicted on box art piloting the Monogram models of the Roton and Talon Fighter and if so, are these characters 'possible' for release in MOTUC. If these characters are available for Mattel to use, I would suspect the Mono-Talon Fighter pilot could be one of the historical 'He-Men' as this vehicle was supposed to be difficult for any individual other than He-Man to pilot alone.

Since it didn't get asked last time and with the upcoming sale of the 2011 subscription I better re-ask this now or it will be too late.

In the past there have been issues with customers who need to change their credit cards in the middle of the subscription due to the card expiring and it's been difficult. Has there been any advancement made in clearing up that process for the 2011 subscription? I ask because I am one of the few people who will have their credit cards expire in January just as the sub starts.

Looking ahead, are the flying steed characters from PoP being designed for MOTUC with consideration for the male action figures being able to ride upon them? For example, would Tri-Klops be able to be posed on Storm without any sort of awkwardness?

Will be taken in consideration the idea to sell (in another weapons pack down the road) an armour piece to cover/connect the holes left by the spider legs backpack of webstor if removed? In this way the back of the figure will be visually appealing when posed!

The original NA He-Man figure came with a removable full body golden armor. He also had a chest harness as part of his torso sculpt.
With the way removable armor is made in MOTUC, I can't really see how he could get both.
When we finally get to a NA He-Man variant, will he come with the chest harness or the full body golden armor?
Fictional characters are just that. Fictional. They have no personality or free will of their own.
Writers and editors mold them to their own wants and needs.
All we as the audience and fans can do is pick and choose our favorite interpretation and ignore the rest.

When it comes time for Queen Marlena to be given a MOTUC release, will we get a definitive answer as to if she was originally from Earth or will that topic not be mentioned much like whether Battle Cat can talk or not?

Great question even though I'm sure I'm not going to like the answer.

Why have you said that Swift Wind, as he appears in the U-Matics video, AND as he appears in the POP mini-comics "The Story Of She-Ra" & "The Journey to Mizar," is unavailable to make as a toy in the MOTUC line?

This version has a white body and pink hair, like Royal Swift Wind, but also has Gold/Pink/Blue wings (like the Filmation design). Mattel MUST own this version if it appeared in the mini-comics and was a prototype. Gy-Gor was a prototype and Mattel owned that. The Green Goddess was in a mini-comic and Mattel owns her.

Why is this version not an option? Would you rather sell one of the vintage toy versions first?

Since it was mentioned that 200X He-Man is still on the table as a fig to be produced, is it possible that he might see his 200X Prince Adam counterpart at some point? And a 200X style Orko?

    EDIT:

Okay, somebody later on asked my same Q about 200X Prince Adam, so I'm changing my Q here.

What's the criteria for giving figures an extra head? I (and others) are rather disappointed that both Buzz-Off and Grizzlor didn't get their 200X styled heads, while numerous other characters have gotten more than one head. Any reason for this?

Mer-Man has some of the most unique armor and weapons in MOTUC due to them being very aquatic and racially-based. If you make race-based 2-Packs or characters, like Ceratus/Caligars or Lord Dactys/Speleans, would they have more unique accessories based on their racial attributes or reuse other characters' accessories?

    G'day bcrduke,

I didn't think Toyguru said FILMation-colour Swiftwind was not available for MOTUC, only that they had made a decison that the SDCC Poll was between the two vintage toy versions? Have I got it wrong?

Would it be possible to release a Weapon's RACK? There are so many weapons out there and having somewhere to store them in our displays would be great. People would buy multiples for all the weapons much like the Grayskull stands.

I think it would be an instant success!
