I think that was the one and only mention of Choloh in all of MOTU-dom.
To my amazement I have today discovered that I've never before read the DC Comics Presents ... Superman vs MOTU comic.
In that story, Beast Man makes the exclamation in surprise:
"Choloh's beard"
As the topic says, my question is: who is Choloh? Never heard of him before. Not even on this board.
Is Choloh an Eternian God? A beast creature god? Some ancient beast warrior?
Has anyone developed theories on this Choloh (and the importance of his beard) before?

It's GrAyskull. It's posted all over the packaging and this site.

But surely some fan on the .Org has given thought to Choloh's background and history?
We have threads on pilots who appeared in one artwork (and 80% obscured at that). The god/giant Procrustus appeared in only one mini-comic and he is a fan-demanded figure. I refuse to believe Choloh remains a blank slate after all these years.![]()

Isn't Choloh April's bonus figure?
Hmm. Maybe Choloh could be the next character in my storyline, The Secrets of Grayskull...

I`m thinking he was never used again due to his name being similar to Cholo, which means mexican gangster![]()

I'd either go with this or that it's an acient mythological being. It was probably a take on the phrase "By Odin's beard". It's used a lot in Thor comics of course and it's not too far of a stretch to say that Thor comics were looked at for some ideas when creating He-Man.
But to say that brings us back to "Who is Choloh?"...

Pete lives in my building, and everyone does love him!
Seriously, though, when I read that, I thought of the character we've all been referring to as "Demo Man", pictured beside Vikor in the concept art. I know that's probably not who he is, but that's the image I got in my head right off the bat.
Okay, fan-artists, you have a task, get to work!

This is what its all about, folks.
I think it's just an Eternian figure of speech like our "Oh, for the love of Pete." Who's Pete?
Saint Peter. The original phrase was 'For Saint Peter's Sake.' Which, in turn, was a polite way of saying 'For Christ's sake' in an era when blasphemy was considered a lot worse in common vernacular than it is today. Saint Peter was contracted to 'Pete' in modern times - probably to further remove the expression from any religious undertones.
So - there really was a 'Pete!'
I imagine Choloh is an Eternian God of some sort. That assumption fits the usage, as most exclamations of that sort relate back to 'calling upon a religious icon' of some form. But I doubt whoever wrote the passage gave it much more thought than 'well, we can't use an expression common in the real world since Eternia is not our world -- we'll have to make up a name to be called on.'
It would definitely be cool to see that fleshed out by Mattel at some point, though. Does Eternia have 'active' gods that are still worshiped, or are all gods merely remnants of past belief systems long abandoned?

Its probally an expression. If it was something important it would have been mentioned again in some way or another.
May e if you run into Pete he might know.

For some reason, I imagine Choloh to be a iconic Eternian statue / god, maybe similar to Colossor (from the early Filmation episode "Colosor Awakes").
Maybe a giant (bearded) beaing. Of course, I have nothing to back this up, this just in my own little Universe!
In all truth, it was a very early work where the MOTU Universe wasn't that fleshed out, so it was probably just a saying the writer came up with to try and add a little colour.

I've posted a WTFWTK question to see if Toyguru and his team have considered Choloh.
I look forward to reading more of your storyline!
How do you pronounce Cholo?
Well, as seen below, that Demo-Man certainly has a beard only a Beast Man could be inspired by!
And yeah, fan-artists, fire up your imaginations!
We do know of Goddess, Moss Man and Procrustus as theoretically living gods. It would be good to learn whether Eternia has gods and religion in a more heavenly sense.
I've been saying a hard CH like cheese: CH-O-Low. Maybe I'm just speech lazy.
I hope Mattel don't sweep this name reference under the carpet but use it as an opportunity to broaden out the history of Eternia.![]()

All I know is Cholo better be part of the 2011 sub. No way I'm fighting for him on matty on that busy day.
200X fan? Classic fan? What does that mean? I'm a MotU fan!!!
Well... maybe he's the closest that Beast Man's got to a god? A spirit of animalistic force and fury, that the Beast Men have worshipped since time immemorial! Perhaps in their mind, he would be either similar to Moss Man, and a nature god, but instead of grass, he lords over flesh and blood, the things that walks and crawls the lands.
Or maybe he'd be even bigger, a creature that created animal life, and lords over it all, having chosen Beast Mans people as his chosen ones, granting them dominion over all of the lesser beasts. They are Choloh's chosen people!
I'd imagine he could be something like a cross between Gygor and Demo-man. Perhaps even that Red Beast prototype drawing of Beast Man. The primal beast, so to speak.
