MOTUC Q&A's From Around the Net (11/15/2010)

    MOTUC Portal

    1. The Green Goddess - if she were to be re-released, would a paint deco change like instead of making her translucent, actually molding her out of green plastic be possible as a re-release of her?

It might be possible to do a redeco of her. Right now, we actually have limited stock of her first release remaining from customer service (much as we did for Zodac). In time we will sell this off before considering any re-release or redeco for her.

    2. Any chance on getting the pink / magenta faker armor sometime? It'd be great to have a card back accurate Faker!

A great suggestion perhaps for a future Weapon pak. Time will tell!

    3. Castle Grayskull - in MOTUC canon - is it just a fortress originally built for King Grayskull? The idea of it being a source of much magic, galactic portals and of much mystery always has had me wanting to know more. PLEASE tell me me MOTUC canon will interject some of this into it's canon?

Tytus’ bio reveals a lot about the origins of the Castle. More will be revealed in time. Keep reading the bios! If you want the “mystery” to remain, we suggest you stop reading the bios.

    4. Blue skin Hordak repaint - is he possible / in the cards?

Possible, yes; planned, not at this time.

    5. Wun-Dar, Oo-Larr, Vikor - any plans for additional "He-Man" prior to Prince Adam?

    Keep reading the bios!
    He-Man.de

    1) How are the chances to have a potential Fisto come with his 200x designed sword? Since last time his massive sword was cancelled in favour of a pincer, fans are eager to see this sword finally appear in MOTU.

It is very likely we will do this. Seems to be the type of thing the Classics line is all about. No plans to announce around Fisto right now.

    2) When reading the bios I see that many story elements from 80ies media are combined with the 200x storyline to form a unique and new story. While this is a great way to catch most fans attention for MOTUC, the designs of the figures themselves however are really vintage-heavy, with only some 200x elements to spice up several figures. Why can´t both vintage and 200x elements be equal, too? Combining the best of all incarnations works perfect storywise, it would work perfect for the figure designs too, so 200x fans wouldn´t feel excluded from MOTUC.

This is because the 200X style is retired. While we will have elements from the 200X design, all will be done in the “Classics” style. Both 200X and Classics are two different interpretations of the vintage line. However, the 200X interpretation is retired.

    3) Will there ever be bigger versions of Zoar, Screech (and Glory Bird) just like their vintage counterparts?

Nothing planned right now, but maybe one day.

    4) With the recently announced "male hero" for april and a "female figure" for may 2011, some fans are wondering if the Faceless One is still planned for may with the female figure being a quarterly bonus figure in may, or if the Faceless One has been postponed in favour of a new female character. (Note: This question was sent in before it has been answered in the last Q&A.)

We can confirm that the Faceless One is no longer in May. He slipped out a few months from the original plan. He needed more tooling and the Horsemen asked if we can swap him with a figure with less new parts to maintain schedule.

    5) Long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, fans asked for "blank figures" to customize their own characters. We´re talking basically male/female bucks, so customizers don´t have to sacrifice a regular figure for their customs. This was a possibility 2 years ago, but is there something you can announce already? Have you been discussing this matter lately or is this completely off the cards at the moment? If you´ve been pondering with this idea, can you share some thoughts about what would be included in a blank-set or how it would be priced?

This is something we have reviewed for multiple toy lines. In the end, we prefer to use our limited design slots and resources for new figures as even a “blank” figure requires work to produce and offer.
    Hordak.de

    1. In the Classics line we got the warriors ring and we will get the Man-E-Weapons. Any chance for She-Ra’s necklace or is it too obscure?

It’s always possible. When it comes to a collector line we don’t think too many things are too obscure. No plans to announce right now though.

    2. In the 80s Clawful had two variants: One with Skeletor’s feet and one with Whiplash’s feet. Would it be possible to make him with swappable feet (like Roboto‘s hand) or will it rather be a variant further down the road?

Since the feet are not designed (tool’d) to be removable (unlike say Trap Jaw’s arm which was designed to be removable) we won’t be offering swappable feet. That doesn’t mean we couldn’t do both versions in time if and when we get to ClawFul.

    3. Wouldn’t the Fright Zone tree make one really cool diorama piece?

    Yes it sure would!

    4. You said a couple of times before that MotU would eventually come back to retail in a movie year- but maybe the figures would have less accessories- wouldn’t it be cool to just change their heads and outfit and give them the faces and look of the actors? That way they would still be collectable for MotU collectors that already have the original releases.

To be clear, there are no plans right now to bring MOTUC to retail. It is POSSIBLE that we may consider this in a movie year with some alteration to the original release. How figures are altered for retail remains to be seen, if this even happens.

    5. Missile Armor Flipshot: Is his colour pattern from the 80s final or may you consider altering his colours a bit to not hurt they eyes so much anymore?

We tend to leave these choices to the Horsemen and there are no plans right now to announce for a Flipshot figure. We’ll have to wait and see for when and if we get to him!

With the upcoming super Cyber Monday sale, many fans fear a huge mess on the MattyCollector website. What, if any, accommodations are being made for the Cyber Monday sale from the folks in charge of the Matty website to prepare for the huge traffic day?

We’ll be having a new sign-in screen that will help to filter and direct traffic. We are making major upgrades in time for this sale!

He-Ro (the 2009 SDCC Exclusive figure) is listed on the Matty site as Out of Stock, while Orko (the 2010 SDCC Exclusive) is listed as Gone For Good. It's been said that aside from a few special figures, nobody in MOTUC is off the table. Yet Orko has the "Gone for Good" distinction. Does that just refer to that particular packout of Orko, or does it mean Orko and/or Prince Adam won't be potentially re-released?

Both figures may be back in time, but we won’t offer the SDCC version of either. Only the version sold on Mattycollector.com. Looks like we may need to update their status.
    MOTUC figures.com

1.) Many folks have friends and family overseas that they would love to have figures sent directly to. Is there any chance of changes to the policy of not delivering to APO/FPO addresses?

Not at this time. Much as American customers pay higher prices for toys imported from countries like Japan, Mattycollector.com items are made for distribution in American. We would love to look at opening up International distribution centers that could offer this service, but currently there are not enough customers in any one area other than the US to justify this.

2.) Is there anything that can be done to ensure future figures don't have "cheap" plastic that bends on weapons/accessories? It was especially bad on Roboto's attachments.

We do take fan feedback into account and have passed this suggestion onto design.

3.) Any update on when She-Ra might be getting a reissue? With Bow coming in January, it would be nice for folks that missed her to know when she might be able to join him.

Not yet. We do want to get to a re-release but we don’t have a date locked in yet. She is a major character and will be back in time.

4.) With the upcoming release of the Ghostbusters PKE meter, He-Man fans are wondering if there any plans to do similar product with MOTU... like maybe a movie accurate cosmic key prop replica (perhaps using the old unproduced role-play toy prototype as a base to get around any legalities)?

We have been looking into prop replicas for other brands, including MOTU. Right now we want to wait and see how the PKE meter performs before branching out to other brands.

5.) When should we expect to see the reveal of next year's vehicle?

    Likely at SDCC 2011.
    Kastor's Korner

Kastor: Because of the need for a hollow clear chest Roboto got moving gear, technically an action feature. Are there possiblites for other with subtle action features, for example a wheel to allow the torso of a figure to spin that would require a gear be possible being considered or is it back to the action-less action figures for the MOTU line?

Matty: We’d like to include “action features” as long as they don’t change the sculpt of the figure such as a peg hole sticking out of a figure’s back. We won’t always get action features in, but we will work to include them when possible.
    Poe Ghostal.com

1.) MldMnrdReporter asks: Are any *new* steps being taken to make sure Quality Control on MOTUC improves in the future? We know it wasn’t a factory error regarding Roboto (his shoulders were clearly tooled incorrectly, with the “L” and the “R” on the wrong pegs). $20 a figure is quite a bit of money to spend each month and it’d be nice to make sure we don’t get a flawed product.

We are always doing what we can to improve quality control. While fans only see the “mistakes” that slip through, many don’t realize the hundreds of things we do catch that are fixed before market. We totally understand the frustration with Roboto. Honestly, this one slipped through. Hey, even fan sites in their reviews didn’t notice the shoulder’s being reversed. In the end, it really only changes the pattern of the tech on his shoulders, the figure is still fully functional. We will look at correcting this one day, but nothing is planned right now. Quality Control is, and remains, of upmost importance to us. Even so, sometimes things do slip through.

2.) Snarf! Snarf! asks: Is it possible to get some official info regarding the power levels and extent of the abilities of MOTU characters (Including PoP, NA, etc.) somewhere down the line. Since the bios are focused on the story we can’t get that info. Things like: “Can Beastman control sea creatures, or is that Mer-Man’s job? Where does Mekaneck keep that huge amount of neck and other organs within his body? How strong is He-Man compared to King Grayskull?”

This is something we are looking into but nothing to announce right now.
    Pop Culture Network

    1) Any particular reason why the white mailer box for Roboto had Grayskull printed on the bottom?

It is there for legal and logistical purposes. No other hidden meaning.

    2) For Mermista: Will her tail be a bendable fish tail (similar to King Hsss snake body) or will it be a cloth tail in the style of the vintage figure? Any insight on this would be great!

Sorry, we can’t comment on any figures past King Hsss right now.
    Kitty's Pryde

1)Many people who purchased Roboto last month received a package with “The Original” starburst, while some did not. Also, one of the early leaked photos of Buzz-Off has the same starburst. Is there any story behind this, or was this just a mistake too late to catch?

It was a vendor mistake which we are trying to correct. If you received an incorrect “2nd run” version please contact Mattycollector.com customer service for a replacement!

    2) We realize you can’t reveal too much about the vehicle to be released next fall. It was stated that the Battle Ram was not necessarily going to be the first vehicle, so has the first vehicle been decided on yet? If so, is there a hint you can give us?

It is actually still in the air. We are reviewing costs and features. We hope to have this to announce at SDCC 2011.
    Figures.com

When it comes to the various MOTU mounts such as Strydor, Battle Lion, the 200X Griffin how will the saddle area be sculpted in order to allow the rigid rubber loin cloth piece from propping up the figure when placed on the beast? Will there be some sort of groove that will accommodate the loin piece?

We haven't announced any of these beasts yet and really can't comment past King Hssss for now. Hopefully, when, and if, we get to these we will address fans' concerns.

Will the upcoming re-release of the Grayskull have modified pegs that are sturdier and hold the removable wall parts better?

No. There is no change to the stands for the re-release.

Would Mattel consider producing a brand new Masters toy line solely based on the 200X cartoons in the near future once all the major classic characters have been made into toys? The line could be called Masters of the Universe Legends or something like that and they could consist of the same bucks minus all the classic elements.

No. This style is retired for now and we won't be producing toys in this style.

The whole sign-in page on the Matty site for Cyber Monday has me a little worried. Hopefully it fixes the traffic problem / WSOD and just doesn't result in one more step with one more round of WSOD to reach the figures.

Definitely thanks Mega. Saves a bunch of time.

Someone needs to ask TG to comment on the fact they can't comment on any figure past Hiss at this point...

I'm not sure if anyone agrees, but don't the questions coming up now seem a bit bleh. I know there is not much we can ask as they will not talk about the future.

    And In Other News:
    • The Fwoosh get a standard "the 4H do the designing" answer for their Bow question, and reconfirm TG's recent clarification that he meant the "on sale in December" issue of Toyfare rather than the "cover-dated December" issue;
    • It's All True get a quite-frankly-confusing answer that confuses "refreshes" and reissues (considering all the "design slot"/"reissue slot" stuff recently) and a standard "we'll think about it" answer over whether Fisto & Jitsu's hands will be removable...;
    • ...a question ALSO asked by AFP (did something come up about them recently? Seems random for two sites to ask it in the same round...), who got the same answer, and who also got a confirmation that the "Greyskull™" stuff at the bottom of the white mailers was just to show continuing use of the trademark (something which needs to be done to retain ™s and ®s. Expect some more unrelated-but-TMed words & phrases there in future months, I suppose).
[Oh, and Toyark has no MotUC questions, only DCUC & Ghostbusters.]

I was thinking the same thing. We are never going to hear anything specific about any upcoming figures, but people will still ask. They always say their tooling dollars will go towards just MOTUC figures, and that posters, prop accessories and so on are not possible. Quality control questions, 200X elements, and the same questions that have been asked a 100 times will continue to be asked and answered with the same response. I can honestly say I no longer look forward to these Q&A's.

The only questions that seemed to be somewhat answered are about accessories like magenta Skeletor/Faker armor, 200X colored swords for Keldor and Fisto's-I don't know what it looks like because I never watched sword.

Alright, good to hear about Fisto's 200X sword! That was one major item I was crossing my fingers for. Seemed like a no-brainer, but when they did the totally boring swords for Keldor, it had me worried, since the 200X Fisto sword is obviously designed with his original sword in mind. They could easily take the "Oh, it's just a detailed version of the vintage sword" route.

While I'm not a big fan of the Weapon's Rack Diorama piece, I would LOVE to get that Fright Zone tree! That would be awesome! I hope they seriously consider releasing that!

Am I the only person who thinks that it's funny that Mattel said that they needed to print Grayskull on Roboto's box for 'legal and logistical reasons.'

Oh Matty, Matty, Matty.... It's bad enough you sold off the rights to Filmation... don't tell us you're doing so badly that you had to sell off the rights to white mailer boxes too.

Hey Mattel, here's a heads up. No-one wants your defective Goddess figures. What we do want is a new production run made from high quality plastic that doesn't crumble to pieces.

Next Month let's all make this easier on ourselves and just have a list of answers:

    1. Can't comment past King Hsss

    2. Good suggestion, but nothing we can comment on at the moment.

    3. Logistics issue, can't discuss.

    4. Legal issue, can't discuss.

    5. We catch hundreds of problems, just missed that one. Everyone else did too, so you aren't any better than us. One day we'll fix it, not sure how or when.

    6. We'll pass it on to design.

These are FORM answers. We aren't going to get much real information out of these Q&As. Out of 40 questions, maybe ONE will have a REAL answer. The rest might as well be answered by a helpdesk in India.

    Seriously!

    Are they kidding?!

Talk about contempt for your customer base. They actually expect us to buy figures that are made with substandard materials and/or made in a flawed manner?!

We need a NEWLY produced Goddess figure that doesn't shatter if you move her legs to much. Plus the outfit is made of harder plastic than Tupperware, and the neck peg needs to be shorter.

I can't wait for their extra stock of The Goddess to NOT sell a single unit, while Mattel claims that female or concept characters are not popular enough.

    Ridiculous.

And enough with this defensive, childish response about Roboto. GUESS WHAT, Mattel?! It's not the fan sites' JOB to catch your mistakes.

Just own it and apologize. I don't have a care for your haughty, passive aggressive excuses.

There is no way on this earth I would order another Goddess figure, if Mattel needs any proof it was a piece of crap plastic figure just check my order record. Digital River had to send me 5, yes you read correctly FIVE Goddess figures to get one that was not broken and then ultimately it broke just standing on the shelf

She is now basically a staction as I refused to even ask for a exchange

These are FORM answers. We aren't going to get much real information out of these Q&As. Out of 40 questions, maybe ONE will have a REAL answer. The rest might as well be answered by a helpdesk in India.

This intrigues me. I got a Roboto with "The Original" starburst. I collect my MotUC MOC, and my Roboto seems to be in perfect condition. If I wanted to get a Roboto without "The Original" starburst, would I have to send back my Roboto? I wouldn't want to send back my really good figure and get a defective one. What do you guys think?
