There are international customs regulations on shipping electronics. A toy containing electronics which is declared as such may end up being detained or unavailable for customers outside the US, depending what kind and how Mattel handle it.

This may end up being a problem, but Mattel could pull it off as well, depending how good they are...

Hm. So they couldn't have done A-List variants with new tooling if they weren't part of the sub, then? Weren't the variants bonus figures to start, and therefore wouldn't have taken up a monthly slot anyway? Confused....

Basically, they're more willing to spend money on a figure they know you already bought

But these would be variants that the fans have asked for rather than stuff Mattel is coming up with on their own. That's what all of these polls are for.

Very cool list of A-List variants, but no mention of She-Ra or Hordak? At least King Hsss will finally get a variant

On one hand, the response on the A-list variants sounds awesome because we'll all be getting our money's worth on those characters, but at the same time I'm debating if I would rather have them invest more on the unique monthlies.

I sorta feel the same way. I'm not going to start worrying until we start seeing the second half of 2011 full of nothing but variants, but, if we do, it will really make me reconsider a 2012 subscription.

Great answers. I have really been disappointed in reading all the same crappy form answers recently. This was some really good stuff. I like how they want to keep 12 "NEW" figures for the monthly figs and then 4 A-List variants. I think we can handle say 1 HM & 1 Skeletor variant per year and then 2 other A-Listers too. That opens it up quite a bit!

3. Reboot:
In the past, you've said that doing a Sword of Power that matched Adora/She-Ra's Sword of Protection (i.e., the same design as the sword that came with those figures, minus the jewel) was out of the question. Considering that you've now said that you would consider doing an altered Sword of He with a future He-Man variant to give it a handgrip ala Tri-Klops' sword, would you also now consider doing a Sword of Power akin to She-Ra's, since "anything is possible"?

We might do the vintage toy version of She-Ra’s sword with a future She-Ra figure, but we don’t have plans to do any Jewel-less versions anytime soon.

My favorite bit of information was from this question itself. I wasn't aware that Mattel might consider making a Power Sword with that additional hilt like the Triklops sword.

I'm also glad to hear that bonus A-listers might have more new tooling.
