WTFWTK 2.50 - Ask your questions here!

Rules for What The Fans Want To Know:
    • Each user is limited to 1 question per Q&A.
    • Posts that repeat questions from other Q&As or from earlier in this thread, or posts that contain multiple questions, will be deleted and the offending user will no longer be permitted to participate in that particular Q&A. So check to see if your question has been asked and help everyone out!
Be sure to check the posts in this thread before you, as well as previous Q&A sessions!
    • This is for question submission only; not discussion. Please save that for discussion threads, and Q&A answer threads.
    • We will start a new Q&A thread when it is time for more questions, approximately every 2 weeks. So please don't start new Q&A threads.

The figures that can be produced are figures that were in the original MOTU, POP and NA lines, as well as in the mini-comics for these lines.
Characters that appeared in the 2002 MYP cartoon are also fair game.
    Filmation characters are off limits!
Who will be produced will remain to be seen.

We will pick up to 5 questions we feel might get answers at that time. Please do not take offense to your question not being asked.
Also, we also edit questions to make them more concise, to be more specific, etc. Please take no offense to this either, as it's only meant to help.
    It's nothing personal.

***Important note: Mattel has limited the questions to 5 from each site who submits Q&As.
Mattel has also asked not to submit figure inquiries about unannounced figures (eg: When will we see [insert character name])

    --------------

This past round of questions were selected by Reboot,
and proofed against old Q&As by Uncle Montork.
Thanks to them for their help!!!

The questions that were asked in the previous Q&A & will be answered in a couple weeks as follows (please do not repeat them, or questions from previous Q&As):

    1. Reboot:
Given that you said that you "lost [your] shirts a bit on King Hsss", where does that leave Mermista who you've said in the past will have a similar arrangement (albeit for the lower half, to swap legs & mermaid tail)? Whenever she happens, will she still be a standard $20 figure or will she fall into the oversized $30+ sku?

    2. robaczek:
When the 4H are sculpting a MOTUC figure, what is the actual size of the prototype sculpt in relation to the final MOTUC toy?

    3. Tuukka:
When we get weapons made of soft rubber, as with Roboto, they are often warped in the package. Why not use hard plastic on guns, swords, clubs, etc?

    4. Zargon:
Since Castle Grayskull's price has been estimated to be $200-$300 (when and if it happens) and figures/beasts run from $20-$40, what would be the estimated prices of the upcoming vehicle(s) by size? (small = Sky Sled-sized, medium = Land Shark-sized, large = Spydor-sized)

    5. Count Marzo:
Is "Galen Nycroft" an available real name for Modulok when and if you get to him?

    --------------

    So ask those questions!

I know we're a far way from getting a full sized playset like Castle Grayskull or Snake Mountain in the MOTUC line, but what about mini-playsets. You can corect me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall the the Fright Zone, the Evil Horde Slime Pit, the 200X Mutant Slime Pit, or the 200X Battle Station being anymore or less expensive than most vehicles in the vintage and 200X toy lines. What are the chances of the mini-playsets being introduced into MOTUC? Is there more hope of seeing a Slime Pit introduced into MOTUC before we see a Castle Gyayskull?

    G'day Toyguru,

Thanks for the last round of answers. Very informative.

    My new question is:
TG has said Mattel may look at adding some electronics to future MOTUC vehicles if possible. If this happens will you be able to sell and ship to all foreign (non US) customers as per normal Mattycollector transactions or will there be restrictions on some countries, such as Australia?

Guess characters from the MOTU DC Comics can be added to this list after the comprehensive answer to the rights issue given in the last WTFWTK round.

    Here is my question!

    Hey toy guru!

Can we have a roboto's hand painted in trap jaw colors (for trap jaw) in a future weapons pak?

Thanks in advance for your answer!

In November we were informed about a couple of delays (Grizzlor's warehouse arrival and the ordering system updates), but not until after the expected shipping and sale dates, respectively. It seems to the fans that both of these things were/had to have been known prior to (even if just barely) the pertinent dates, so would it be possible to start posting things like this online once you know your customers will be effected?

We all know that MOTUC is an avatar of the imagination but what is the story behind the chain connected to Vikor's wrist?

Obviously, it is on there because of the original drawing but has a story been developed as to why it is actually there?

First off, THANK YOU for the GREAT WORK done so far, to you Scott, the Four Horsemen, and your team, on the MOTUC line!

My only REAL concern at this point, is the Quality Control issues that still seem to keep plaguing this line to date. I have read the recent responses in regards to the QC of this line, the ones along the lines of: "we can't catch everything... (and) fans just don't know all the numerous QC issues that we do catch in time before a figure goes into production..." But my question is, with all due respect, is there anyway possible, the Four Horsemen themselves, can be involved in the FINAL QC check of a figure BEFORE in goes into mass production? It just seems like this would be a very wise move, because who better than the artists themselves, to catch any possible QC issues of a figure before it does get put into mass production (...I'm looking at you Roboto)?

In a future weapons pack is it possible for us to get Battle Armor He-man's Armor in Gold? By that I mean the 3 plates, Front, and back pieces in gold were it was silver but keeping the "H" symbol and using the exact same mold to make it. Also probably throw in the He-man ax in gold to go with it if you want as well.

VIKOR has been labeled as a "Powers of Grayskull" figure, so we can now consider every character previous to Adamīs birth a POG character? (for those who arenīt still in the Adam era like Moss-Man or Gy-Gor)

Well get a sticker for "Heroic Warrior" and "Evil Warrior" factions? All the other factions have their own sticker (POG, POP, HORDE, SNAKEMEN...)

True, but the Heroic Warriors and the Evil Warriors are kinda like the "core" factions, making up the core Masters of the Universe, so they don't really need their own faction title stickers, which by not having them, designates them as so. Did that make sense? IMO of course.

The newly tooled half Power Swords that come with King Grayskull appear to snap together much better than the earlier ones. Will future figures that include half Power Swords, including reissues, come with the new half sword?

Thus far we've been introduced to quite a few heroic characters from Eternia's past in MOTUC (He-Ro, King Grayskull, Vikor, Wun-Dar)... but will we ever meet any of their foes in action figure form in MOTUC? Not necessarily Hordak or King Hssss (we've known about them for some time), but rather the introduction of other "concept" villians who may have fought Wun-Dar, Vikor, etc?

Are the Art Prints for the Dec 15th Sale a test to see what other MOTU merchandise can be sold at Mattycollector.com, and if so, would a failure to sell out be a hindrance towards other types of MOTU merchandise being sold on Mattycollector?

In one of the 15th November Q&As, you said...
Right now, we actually have limited stock of [the Goddess'] first release remaining from customer service (much as we did for Zodac). In time we will sell this off before considering any re-release or redeco for her.
But that production run was systematically faulty, with dozens of reports of necks, legs and pelvis' shattering with little prompting, and Toyguru's admitted that the problem exists at least twice, attributing it to "the same issue with broken legs [that] happened with Wave 4 and 5 of DCUC and those did not use translucent plastic at all. It was a vendor error with assembly that caused the plastic to break..." (although many people report that their Goddess figures' torsos crumbled, which is different to what happened with the DCUC waves).

With that in mind, do you really intend to sell off product you know to be faulty?

Has there ever been any disagreements among those responsible for the MOTUC bios in regards to which previous canon should be used or what the "real name" should be? For instance, was everyone on board for using Teela's mini-comic origin rather than her MYP origin or something else entirely(I'm assuming Filmation canon is off limits)? Was everyone in agreement for Mer-Man & Evil-Lyn's "real names"(I love both of them no matter what anyone else says)? Did you ever have to persuade someone to come to your side or vice versa?

Just wondering if it is possible for Mattel to ask Toys R Us to pull remaining DCU vs. MOTU wave one from the U.S. shelves and ship them to other countries for sale. Inflated Ebay prices and rediculous shipping just make it too difficult for many collectors. Especially when many of them are just peg warmers on U.S. shelves. If they were released in Canada, I personally haven't seen any.

I know alot of fans would like to see plush toys and there are characters ripe for plucking. How about Orko, Kowl, or Lookee? We'd LOVE to have an official option for this treatment of characters. Many people are fans that would like to introduce (our) children to this fandom in such a format. Yes, I'm available to hire for this kind of venture.

    Hey there

With the inclusion of Vikor and the mention of Fighting Foe Men, could the "Valley of Gnarl" era create an opportunity for Mattel to produce some never-before-seen/ brand new characters? Perhaps new characters could be created by the Four Horsemen or maybe Mattel could flesh out some more early concept art into new figures who belong to the FFM faction or allies of Vikor...

    Thanks

According to an interview of Steven Grant (thanks to SabreTooth for the link),
    http://www.he-man.org/resources/archive.php?id=28

"The 'Nameless One' had something to do with Keldor becoming Skeletor. I think he was their version of Emperor Palpatine, the great evil behind everything else. As with everyone else, there was no more backstory."

So within a time paradox, Keldor was supposed to have a role in POG.
So my question is: As Eldor and He-ro, was a Keldor toy intended to be released in the POG wave?

You mentioned on a recent Gooble Dinner chat that we may very well see a Pre-Eternia map. Will we likely see a Primus or Denebria map as well?
