Its obviously a MotU name-play on Soar (like a bird)
Also Im pretty sure the Point Dread LP it was pronounced that way too.

I dunno where Filmation came with this whole Zo-Ar business (plus I dont remember it being pronounced like that on the toon anyways)

yea ive always thought it was (z) soar...

Zo-ar seems a lil silly to me,.
Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality.
But...there is, unseen by most, an underworld, a place that is just as real,
but not as brightly lit... a darkside.

It should probably rhyme with "soar" but I still call him Zo-ar due to the Filmation cartoon. That's just what stuck.

I've always pronounce it as Zoar (soar with a z) but "Zo-Arr" is good too.

Soar with a 'Z'. As in "A bird soars through the clouds".

If it was pronounced Zo-ar, it would have a hyphen like mentioned earlier.

Zo-ar doesn't roll off the tongue as well.

Filmation voice actors mispronounced many words for dramatic effect or to make them sound "futuristic". Like sensors were sometimes pronounced "sen-sores".

I prefer to pronounce it as soar but with a z of course.

Has anyone mentioned how Skeletor once pronounced missile as miss-isle or miss-aisle? I remember the robot/robutt one as well. Those Eternian accents!

I pronounced it as Zo-arr before I ever heard it that way on the cartoon, because it felt more exotic than just Soar with a Z.

I vary. I originally pronounced it like "soar" until I heard them say it on the cartoon.

Then it kind of stuck with me, but I'm not committed to either pronunciation and can use either depending on the day.

Soar with a "z". The letters already account for a sound, why mess with it?

Also, Dan pronounced it Zoh-are in the egyptian dudes review. Nepthu? Crap, should have looked him up.

I have no horse in this race, but just for reference, there are many words where double vowels are pronounced as two syllables; Moab, zoology, diagonal, fluid, casual, phobia, Rhianna, etc.

I'm trying to remember if Zoar was first featured in the Filmation series, or in the comics?

Also, I'm I correct that the toy was from the Big Jim line, like Battlecat and Panthor?

Never owned Zoar, but had a Screech. Always waiting for Screech's time to come!

I wonder if it was an intentional borrowing from the Bible, or just a coincidence. The translation in Hebrew can mean "small" or "insignificant." Might be a stretch, but one could say that the Sorceress as Zoar was power masked in a "small" or "insignificant" form.
