Most (if not all) of those characters will no doubt be in the live-action movie, so in a way it makes sense to give them retail exposure before that happens. But I know what you mean.
I also think that Trap Jaw will turn up in a two pack, hes probly the highest profile 'non 8 back' character.
depends if the DCU vs MOTUC packs survive, from what I hear they are MAJOR peg warmers over there. and I think that Zodac is a bad choice personally. (Dont get me wrong I love Z, but as far as Brand recognition go's I expect a big 'Huh?' from most buyers!)

They seem to be going with the 8-back characters teamed up with Super Powers '12-back' characters (although Luthor and Green Lantern are not in their Super Powers costumes). I suspect they will stick to that as they only have 3 more to go on the 8-back. If the packs survive, I'm sure Trap-Jaw, Evil-Lyn and others will make it too.
By that logic, we still have Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, Flash, Brainiac, Joker and Penguin as the DC candidates.
So if they are following the 8-back/12-back, for MOTU we'd have Man-At-Arms, Teela, and Beast Man, plus 4 more - Trapjaw & She-Ra seem extremely likely. Maybe Orko?

I don't see them using Penguin (thankfully since I hate the sculpt of that figure). They haven't changed the paint decos on any of the DC characters (I suspect because that would force them to go through the DC approval process or because they don't want to tick off the DC collectors by making then seek out these sets) so a non-repainted Penguin seems like an increadably weak figure to put in these sets.

Only the Toys of the 8-Back are related to DC!
Teela with blond Hear would be Cool! Also Man-at-Arms in a brighter Green.
But on the other Hand there are so many amazing Toys in Motuc! Like TrapJaw and Whiplash!
I don't think it's really surprising...the 8-back are the true A-listers and the faces of the franchise. There are a few others--ie: Evil Lyn, She-Ra, Hordak--but not many. The 8-back launched motu and will always be among the most important and recognizable characters.
I expect the trend to continue in future packs with Teela, Man-at-Arms, and Beast Man.
