Toyguru Reveals Bio Mistakes and their fixes!

    Thanks to Flint!

    Kitty's Pryde

    5) Toy Guru, which MOTUC bio is your favorite and which one might you redo if given the chance?

    Toy Guru jumping in here:

“I really like both Vikor and the new King Grayskull. It was fun to see the worlds really come together. Trap Jaw was also a particularly fun bio to do. Adora was also great since it helped clarify that Etheria was in Despondos. There really aren’t any bios that need to be re-done. There were two early mistakes I’d want to correct. Tytus’ bio had a few events swapped (the building of Castle Grayskull and the Towers) and Goddess’ bio mistakenly said there was 500 year between Grayskull and Adam when it was supposed to be 5,000 years.

All 200+ bios were written at the same time and while fans may be frustrated that not all the info is out there, this is intentional and in time the full picture and a greater appreciation for the work that went into this huge undertaking may come to the surface!”

It was meant to be 5000? Yeah! right! I smell a Retcon Bomb!
On the other hand 5000 years works right. I'll smell further retcons coming...
Wait, the towers are built now AFTER CG?
Toyguru, read this: The Rebellion needs Glimmer!! I NEED Glimmer!! Pretty Please?

Have we known about the 5,000 years ago thing for awhile now? The other day, I saw someone mention that 500 was mistake (or potentially a mistake?), and it was the first I'd heard of it.

This is the first I've heard that they would correct the 500 to be 5000.
Nevertheless, I am glad for it. Now I just need it in print on card.

Tytus building Towers of Eternia before Grayskull was mentioned before, and it simply makes good continuity-sense (check original mini-comics).

It has been discussed multiple times on RoastGooble (the fact that 500years seems wayyyyyy too short time-span for KG and Adam), so I would have hoped ToyGuru could have chimed in there on the topic.

Wait. I must be dumb. I don't get what he means with the swapping of events in Tytus' bio. How should it have read?

I reckon (if memory doesn't fail), is that it said on his package that Grayskull was built before Eternia Towers.
And they updated that for the website to the correct order of Towers being first.

We actually made a few changes to the Tytus bio but it was too late to alter it on package. If we go into a second run down the road, we'll update the package back. But this will be the bio once Tytus goes live on the site:

    Tytus
    Real Name: Tytus
    Heroic Giant Warlord

Tytus the giant fought for peace alongside King Grayskull and He-Ro in the Great Wars. Originally from the mountains of Perpetua, he was forced to leave his home after his herd of dinosaurs began developing strange techno parts. He traveled across Eternia to seek help from Grayskull’s village. There he joined the King in battle against the Snake Men and Horde. He helped construct one of the Three Towers during a temporary truce with his enemies. After He-Ro’s death he used his great strength to build King Grayskull a mighty fortress, incorporating the symbol of the Cosmic Warriors into the entrance as a tribute to his fallen comrade. In the end, Tytus fell during the First Ultimate Battle Ground, heroically sacrificing his life to stop the rampaging giant Megator!

No, on the Goddess' bio it does say "For five thousand years, they waited for a worthy heir to be born." So that part is correct.

According to the mini comics, the Towers came first. But according to Tytus' bio, the Castle came first then the Towers.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. I really liked the mini comics and wished they kept with that. Maybe if they re-release Tytus they can update or change the bio.

Now that I re-read it, it doesn't really give a timeline on those events. It just says he helped construct one of the Towers during a truce. It then says after He-Ro's death CG was built. But there's no definitive timeline to the events. So there's a LITTLE wiggle room on this.

Ah, thanks Jukka. I see what you're saying. I did not know this was already discussed. (Well, maybe I did and I just forgot...lol)

Thing is, though it would read a bit better if they put that sentence about the the Towers after the Castle Grayskull part, we can always pretend it was a randomly inserted fact in the middle of the bio and not chronological order.

    Retcon.
    Revisionist.

Whatever you want to call it, this is another case of TG feeding us a line.

Nobody (rational) believed that all of the bios were "written in advance". And as they've come out, the inconsistencies and contradictions have further proven that they're being written (poorly IMO) as we go along.

Jeez. If you're going to pee on my leg, at least do me the courtesy of not telling me that its rain!

Again, that looks to be changed for the MattyCollector -website.

But on Goddess' package, it says "for five centuries".

D'oh!! Man that sucks. I thought they would have taken the existing bios on the cardbacks and put them on the site. (Sigh) They don't make this easy do they?

I'll take 5000 over 500, whatever the reason.

I also like Tytus working on the towers more than on Grayskull.

    Cool!

    Aha!

I haven't looked to the Matty site since I hadn't heard about bio changes here...I only have my physical cardback for reference.

    Agreed.

I don't mind a retcon...every comic property has done it multiple times.

And the 5000 at least does something to take us back to a bigger world. Eternia might start to seem a bit "larger" now...

Now they can add more He-Man warrior variants before Oo-Larr and Wun-Dar.

I really donīt like the changes.

500 years is time enough among Adam and Grayskull. I dont want hundreds of He-Men, hundreds of Sorceress, hundreds of Trollans.

500 years in real life is enough to forget heroes, villains, events. A lot of generations comes in 500 years. How many people knows what happened in their cities 500 years ago?

I donīt care about when the 3 Towers were built, we know very few about them, but Its cool that Tytus built Castle Grayskull.

And Toyguru, if you are going to change BIOS, please HERO is the Most Powerful Wizard of the UNIVERSE!!!

They said: we have all MOTUC BIOS planned at once, we start to see improvised changes...

I'm a bit disappointed that this thread doesn't include Toyguru's public recantation of all of his bios - as an error. Meh.

Ok. Since it is 5 thousand instead of 5 hundred does this mean we'll see even more he-man's err he-men err keepers of the sword?

Snake Hunter brings up a great point. What's wrong with 500 years?? Generally speaking, in 100 years you can have 4 generations or so. 500 years would be 20 generations!! Using that, KG would be Adam's Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Great-Grandfather.

And that's not enough time for some people??

Another fun note: I just read the mini comic "Enter Buzz Saw Hordak" and in it Hordak says he helped create Central Tower. I thought that interesting and would like to see it explored more.

What it also means is that King Grayskull was around when the Towers were built. KG's final battle is what sent Hordak to Despondos, right?

Given that the 3 Towers, the reign of the Snake Men and the whole Preternian era was meant to be so far back in history it barely sufficed as a legend for even the most scholarly Eternians, I do think 500 years was a ridiculously short time period.

5000 years sounds much more accurate. It is a change I like, no matter the reason.

In order for Castle Grayskull be a Long forgotten place of power, 500 years is far too little. Especially when you have a bunch of people trying to get in every 20 years or so.

About 500 years ago Colombus sailed to find a route to India and unknowingly discovered a new world. We still talk about it as common knowledge... Do we talk about huge events that happened 1000 years ago as common knowledge? That's less likely. Unless we talk about figures based on religion. (not going to mention any names in order to avoid treading into Tar Swamp topics) Other than that The average person has no idea about what happened a thousand years ago.

The 5000 years gap give KG, He-Ro, etc. a Legendary or Mythological status. It allows for some people to look for the long forgotten Castle Grayskull battle a "He-Man" yet the entire populace thinks very little of it.
Toyguru, read this: The Rebellion needs Glimmer!! I NEED Glimmer!! Pretty Please?

I definitely prefer a 5000 year gap to 500. Prehistoric Eternia, with all the dinosaurs and more barbaric characters (King Grayskull, Vikor) really seems like it should be set a long time ago.
