Beautiful stuff. Do any of you guys remember the panorama from She-Ra where there is this ancient looking stone archway in the middle of whispering woods? I saw it once, but cannot find it again.

Thanks for posting the Christmas panel. I've always liked it, but I never noticed that Davey Jones (that's his name right?) the mouse from Anchor's Aloft was on the pillow with Mermista.
Also, can anyone identify a certain panel for me? In the very first post of this thread, what is the one directly above the Sorceress reading from the scroll in her chamber? That place is so familiar, it's on the tip of my tongue.

To be fair, computer can replicate hand coloring pretty well.
Same goes for special effects (laser glow, dimensional gateways, etc).
It just depends on people who are doing it.

Totally. Whilst I can totally live (and even expect) things to be updated with current technology standards, it is the sheer creativeness of the Filmation backgrounds and "sets" that I love, and I felt MYP was very 'stark' without. For me, my personal favourite 'look' is that depicted in the epic vintage box art (particularly on larger items), and the UK Ladybird art was awesome too, but Filmation really captures the look of what Eternia should be. In fact, although Filmation is sometimes knocked for it's limited and recycled animation techniques, I personally believe backdrops such as these are some of the best to ever be seen in a hand-painted animated series.
Filmation certainly has it's flaws (mostly the "what the heck was that" story turns of previously-unmentioned-He-Man-powers and one too many slapstick pantomime villains), but it had such a heart, a warmth, a believability to it, that has been rather absent in later versions IMO.

I agree! I've got the entire set of the original Hem-Man & The Masters of the Universe and the entire set of the She-Ra, Princess of Power DVDs too. I've had the time & patience to put together panoramic screen captures of the She-Ra episodes (landscape as well as portrait orientation) but so far I haven't the time to watch the He-Man DVDs & put together high res pan scans of those (& there's a lot more He-Man episodes than She-Ra simply because he came first & lasted longer).
If anyone is interested, you can find my pan scan collection in my Photobucket site, the link is in my signature.
What I have noticed as I've been compiling these is that the very best & interesting pan scans are those that actually diagonally across a scene while going from left to right, up & down or vice versa. The only reason I don't have those is because they tend to have a lot of white space on either side of the picture where the frames merge. But I have seen some awesome panned cels that go in that diagonal manner in a few of the collections on the rubberslug site.
