    vintage Vikor

With the MOTUC version of Vikor coming up on January 18th, I felt a vintage counterpart needed to be made as well. So, encouraged by the vintage custom king Tyke, I started working.
This vintage version of Vikor is what the vintage He-Man might have looked like had the sketch by Mark Taylor been approved about 30 years ago...

    • Helmet: Playmobil viking (cut and resculpted to fit He-Man’s head)
    • Head: vintage He-Man (repainted)
    • Body: vintage Tri-Klops
    • Cape: vintage Grizzlor’s fur
    • Loin cloth: parts of a McDonalds Superman figure cape (cut and painted)
    • Sword: from a no-name knight toy
    • Axe: vintage He-Man axe (heavily modified)
    • Shield: vintage Grayskull weapin (modified)
    • Necklace: from a no-name prehistoric figure

I added a ‘rusty’ look to all his weapons, just like the new MOTUC figure has. I wanted to have his weapons look like they are ‘worn’ by time (and fierce battles) and did not go for a very ‘clean’ look. The only thing I don’t really like is the way his shield came out. That needs to be modified a bit so that the ‘tip’ stays on better. Otherwise I’m extremely pleased with this figure. Comments are welcome!

    hot holy smackrel!

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST VINTAGE CUSTOMS EVER. I am indeed going to copy your recipe....dang! I love this custom!

I've made furry Horde-customs and so therefore used many Grizzlor arms and I have a use for the fur! awesome, man.

    looks freaking great.

it's actually just a bit too good to be a completely believable retro version, but that's a good thing. It looks better.

Thanks (again) for all the kind words everybody!

Well, actually that was the look I was going for. I figured that Grizzlor surely isn't the only one of his kind and the skin would be perfect as a warm cape for a 'He-Man of the north'. Especially because in the vintage line the capes on the figures were made of cloth I figured a 'fur' cape would be a great nod to that.

Thanks! I don't have Vikor (the MOTUC figure) but currently this custom is one of my favorite figures on my toy shelf.

I had been in doubt on if I should go for a complete vintage look (less detailed paint job, weapons one color, simpler looking loin cloth) or if I should go the way I normally do my vintage customs. I chose the latter.
Ever since I was a kid I wanted to 'upgrade' my MOTU toys. Give 'em something extra. So that's why my vintage customs mostly look 'off' a bit. They are vintage, but more detailed than the vintage line ever was. Or at least, I try to give them that effect. As if they are somewhere inbetween vintage MOTU and MOTU Classics. Here's the one that started it all (for me) Man-At-Arms. He is still the vintage version as we know him, but just a bit touched up. Every vintage custom I made after that followed that direction.
