Found these on the web the other day (www.wishbookweb.com). I remember drooling over these - sometimes with a magnifying glass - for hours! Wish Mattel would do pics like these for upcoming classics items just for nostagia

Cool stuff. This should probably be in the "Original" forum, though.

I thought that vehicle was cool too - kinda neat that another company created a vehicle to fit MOTU figures.

But how fun would it be for Mattel to use these old layouts to give us a sneak peek at upcoming classics? Remember the days of waiting to look at the back of the MOTU figures package to see what new items were on the horizon? Or opening the catalog and staring at the display of items you wanted or had never seen? And since this is the classics line, something like this would be totally on target for what they are doing

At age 38, I would love to feel that same MOTU excitement again....

This actually happened a bit in the 80's, especially with vehicles scaled for the 3 3/4 scale (for Star Wars and Joe figures).

I love looking at old advertisements and catalogs for 80's toys. It's a bittersweet moment. I love reliving the memories of the toys but when I see the old prices I think my heart sinks. Dang! What I had for $34.99 (Castle Grayskull) and the prices they demand now. But looking at these pics just makes me want the MOTUC updates even more!

We were laughing about that at work too - we were guessing the prices of things like Castle Grayskull, the USS Flag, and the dicast voltrons WAY over the list prices for the day. I always thought grayskull was like $75 or something....of course with inflation and such, that $35 is more like $75 now.

Hey Mattel, hows about giving subscription holders a throwback price month once just for fun the figures were $5.49 each in 1985!

Check out these pics from over at the great x-entertainment website! These are from the 1986 J.C. Penney Christmas Catalog

What is Mattel doing?!! Or NOT doing rather. This is the stuff legends are made of, not 1 character ads in Toyfare that feature a prototype standing in front of a crappy CG background from MYP ugh.

    Anyway, here they are

This one is also courtesy of x-entertainment. From the 1985 Sears Wish Book, I give you: The Fright Zone!
Retail Prices were as follows: Fright Zone $29.99, Horde 2-packs (Hordak & Grizzlor, Leech & mantenna) $10.99, and Modulok was only $8.49

Am I the only one who can't wait to see Mantenna and Leech in MOTUC?

The debut appearance of MOTU in a wish book.
This is from the 1982 SEARS CHRISTMAS CATALOG:

I just love looking at these old advertisements. They just excite the imagination. Ads are so boring these days. I mean there's real smoke dancing around the figures, that's cool. My favorite ads of all time were from a store here in Southern California called Best . To bad they went out of business.

Wow! It's so weird how a memory will come back like that. It's been almost 30 years (gulp!) since I first saw that ad, but I do remember seeing that vehicle........now. That memory was tucked far away until I saw that picture.
That has to be from a JCPenney catalog, because that was the only catalog that came to my house in the mail. Remember? They were bigger than the phone books.

thanks for sharing. I too loved to watch these ads, specially for g.i.joe figures. but I always got really annoyed when they got it wrong.

for instance.. why is rio blast riding mantisaur (or what ever hordak's insect is called)?

That sleeping bag in the Montgomery Ward catalog picture- I totally had that. And that kid-sized He-Man Weapons set. I've been looking for that on ebay for years.
