Not all Thundercats were the same height. I'm guessing that Mumm-Ra The Everliving will be 8 inches tall and all the other figures will be in scale with him. He towered over Lion-O and the rest in the old cartoon.

I can see that, but usually when they reference a scale they are talking about the norm, not the uppermost limit.

Does anyone know where Bandai(either just Bandai USA or including its Japanese roots as well) falls in terms of toy sales? I'm assuming Mattel & Hasbro are still the leaders, but I'm curious as to how successful Bandai is. I think the only Bandai toys I've ever bought were some of the Ultimate Muscle toys from several years ago.

Since ToyFare was going to feature pictures of the upcoming Thundercats toys in its February issue, I wonder what's going to happen to them now. Will they show up in Tomart's, Lee's, or will they go straight to Bandai's Facebook page?

I'm just gonna get the best Mumm-Ra they release since he carries Thundercats imo and he was the only Thundercats toy I had as a kid. So collector's edition of Mumm-Ra and it better not cost too much either cuz MOTUC is more important!!

They are the third largest toymaker in the world. Their biggest cash cows is Gundam and Senti toy lines (better known as Power Rangers in the US), and may other long running popular series to mention like Ultraman. They not only make toys, the sponsor live action/animation production tied in with their product, and they make video games.

Yeah, I remember some of their games way back in the 80's for the original NES.

Like Steph said they are the 3rd largest toy maker in the world, they could survive solely on the Power Rangers, Dragonball, One Piece and Gundam licenses.

They are also international, a distinction the big 2 do not really have. In Japan they produce toys, video games, and movies. You might know them in the states as Namco Bandai, makers of the Tales of series, Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive, Tekken.

So need to worry about them, especially since the Thundercats toys are more anime than say GI Joe that is really their niche.

I don’t understand how those who would only collect the Classics would have a REALLY big problem with a 2” difference because Mumm-Ra was always jacked and the Thundercats are a different species. Use your imagination, folks!

The news spread like wildfire and even sites I frequent that have no interest in toys or cartoons are talking about it. You can't buy that kind of press

Honestly, my issue is that MOTUC is already pushing the boundaries of the 6" scale stuff that I already collect. A line where the average dudes are over an inch taller than MOTUC is way out of that scale. That's essentially Mego sized!
I do realize that I'm being a ridiculous toy nerd to even complain about it, but that's just how I feel.
Now, if the scenario where Mumm-Ra is 8" tall and all of the rest of the TC Classics end up being 6.5" or so ends up being the case, that would be dope. But I really don't think that's what we're looking at here.

New info about the show, head to link for full interview

    http://splashpage.mtv.com/2011/01/27...age-interview/
In addition to acknowledging that the new series will play up the anime roots of the Thundercats, Spaulding discussed updating the characters. Tygra, specifically, he singled out as having an updated backstory.

"The consensus was that he was the boring guy of the old show," he explains, "so we wanted to make him more interesting and gave him another dimension. But don't worry — he still has the whip."

Other updates include making Lion-O younger and Panthro older, though Spaulding promises that all changes will be organic to the new storyline. What's more, we will be seeing Snarf, WilyKit and WilyKat, though it may be some time before they're unveiled.

Wow, you're right...I never noticed that MOTUC is way over 6". I see your point when talking about lines other than MOTUC. I figured every fanboy wanted a MOTU/Thundercats crossover (to scale). That could still be plausible in world like Eternia where the gorillas are epic!

I am on the fence about this rebirth mostly due to the way Panthro looks. For some reason I keep seeing Hardware from Silverhawks. I am hoping for a great MOTU/Thundercats crossover also. I will probably end up buying all of them anyway.

Well, interesting stuff! Completely didn't pay attention to any of this, so it feels like this snuck up on me. I liked Thundercats and I've still got all the toys I had when I was little (give or take horrible play wear) but I honestly couldn't stomach the show later in life. I remember catching it on Toonami when they were showing it back then, and my friend and I laughed all the way through it.

Now, though, I'm pretty psyched! I love the redesigns, and I'm hopeful that they'll really try to breath some life into this. It's a great idea on a cool wasteland of a planet with all kinds of mutants and monsters (and Mum-Ra will always be awesome) so they've got some really cool stuff to work with. Overall, though, I think it's cool that they redesigned them, but kept the weapons bascially the same. I mean, Lion-O's sword is pretty much the same sword! I always loved that sword, but I hated how the toy's sword was so different in terms of the curve in the blade and the red handle. The sword in the show always made an impression on me in terms of magical swords from my childhood shows and video games (up there with the Master Sword from Zelda).

So I'm on board for all of this; the toon, the toys, and the classic styled figures. I want to see what they've got!

There's an unconfirmed report that Mezco also has the ThunderCats license to make figures on the classic cartoon. I'm trying to confirm it now.

    It's real: http://geek-news.mtv.com/2011/01/28/...st-look-image/

Whoa! That looks pretty good. Thanks for posting that.

Please say they're going to be making a Mumm-Ra one. What's with all this Thundercats loving all of a sudden? He-Man only get's the MOTUC line, and Thundercats get's all this in one go? He-Man has got some serious catching up to do.

Interesting, Mezco toys are usually exaggerated and very cartoony. But the more the merrier!

wow the Mezco Lion-O mega figure looks really cool!
So this is a huge 20" figure. I remember Mezco made various scales for various lines before. I'm getting more hope to see 6" ~ 7" scale ThunderCats!

The Mezco figure looks awesome! 7 points of articulation. I wonder if it'll be Rotocast. I pre-ordered it.

    20 inches?!

    That's bigger than Tytus.

That Lion-o is 20 inches AND it sold for 99 bucks?

If that's the case then it's Thunder, Thunder Thundercats NOOOOOOOOOO! for me.

And what with the right for arm? that looks real bad. Complete mis-match.

Though I got to admit that having 4 different sizes is nice. something for everyone.

It's selling for $35 on Pre-order at places like BBTS. If you go to Mezco's site... I think that shopping page you get when you click on Thundercats is just a test page. It says "Thundertest" as the item name.

The figure looks closer to 14'' - 15'' tall. The 20'' includes the sword.

Also, uhm... the "mismatched" arm is just what Lion-O looks like.

I’m not trying to be disrespectful, but what picture are you looking at?

    Also, $99?

EDIT: BBT actually has the figure itself at 14". The sword obviously adds on another six inches or so.

So based on that prototype i'm guessing the 7 points of articulation will be at the wrists, boots, shoulders, and neck?

Not bad, but I think i'll wait and see how Bandai's version turns out.

There is some kind of pre-sale item called Thundertest that sold out for for $99. Picture doesn't show up. I just assumed it was the Lion-O that everyone has seen. I went to Mezco toyz then clicked on "ThunderCats" (yes. It was spelled that way) and this item comes up

Well everyone was saying 20 inches but that makes sense.
