Imbalance of characters in air and water

Has anyone noticed how imbalanced MOTUC is so far regarding aquatic and airborne characters? All of the water-dwellers we've gotten so far have been villains:

    Mer-Man
    Clawful
    Leech
    Slush-Head
    Octavia (Coming soon)

    vs.

None of the heroes I can think of...

Then on the other side of things, almost all of the flying characters are heroic:

    Stratos
    Buzz-Off
    Sy-Klone
    Icarius
    Sorceress
    Swiftwind
    Windraider
Potentially more in the future such as Razz, Angella, Flutterina, Sweet Bee...

    vs.

    Batros (Coming soon)
    Griffin
and maybe Draego-Man depending on whether you'd say he's on anybody's side

I'm not sure where I'm going with this, it's mostly just on observation. On one hand, it's kind of cool because each side has kind of a safe place from which to strike. However it can also point out some niches that need to be filled. Mermista, Hydron, and a Roton would be very welcome as far as I'm concerned. Any thoughts?

*I left out Orko and Shadow-Weaver. They hover/teleport, but I don't really picture them soaring through the sky.

Definitely. That's why we need her and Hydron. They have their work cut out for them. I don't know the mythos in-depth enough to recommend any flying villains. Maybe that harpy?

Hydron too, although I think he means characters we've actually gotten. Also, Clawful is a water guy, right?

Well, then, you should add Clawful, 'cause he's been released.

Very true, Clawful added. I picture him coming up out of the water onto shore Zoidberg style, haha.

LOL! It's like Transformers, where the Decepticons ruled the skies, while the Autobots controlled the road. Come to think of it, I think the Decepticons controlled the seas too, especially with the Seacons. The Deceps had more sea-monsters while the Autobots had more boats.

    Zodac goes in there somewhere.

And in theory spell casters can fly if they wanted. Which is another interesting imbalance, at least till you take into account PoP.

You'd think all those eyes in the sky would hurt Mekeneck's self esteem.

Screech! Don't forget little Screech! LOL

Kowl, Kowla, and Red Eye from POP. Vultak from the Horde... Lord Dactys for good guys too...

(I know so far it's only for released characters, but sometimes brainstorming helps...)

Well, it probably has something to do with humanity's view of the respective domains. The seas with it's dark and deep unknowns has been the birthplace of many aquatic creatures, both real and imaginary, that created fear in the hearts of man (the Kraken, sea serpents, sharks, pirahna, etc...). Whereas the skies has usually been the domain of creatures who are viewed as noble and regal (eagles, falcons, angels). That's the reason why I see the hero/villain is broken up betweeb sky and sea.

Vultak would make an excellent classics figure. I wouldn't be surprised if he was one of the yet unrevealed filmation sub figures. Most parts are there except wings, head and feet. The wings could be reused too for a certain key POP lady.

    Zoar flies.

&, didn't, at points in the series, Hordak, Evil-Lyn & Skeletor all fly in the 200x series, or at least levitate, via magic?

Does Batros actually fly? Or does he just have those little wings for aesthetic flair?

If and when they make Mermista, I won't be happy unless she comes with a base so I can display her swimming.

I don't know. I haven't actually seen the episode or two that he was in. I was assuming he did since he has wings and a name that's a play on the word bat. If he can't then that imbalances things even more. Also putting Granamyr on He-Man's side heavily tips the scales. Any evil-doer that dares take to the sky in the classics canon is gonna get the beatdown of a lifetime.

Orko flew in the 200x cartoon, several times in fact, soaring in the sky with Buzz-Off and Stratos.

Water is the worst represented element for the heroes, with none to speak of in vintage MOTU. Even the villains have a decent amount of airborne characters to combat the heroes.

    And of course Batros flies.

Yep, and the Decepticons could even fly when not in their alternate form. Autobots couldn't.

Funny! I was just about to post basically the same thing!
