POWER-CON! Programming Schedule & guest appearances, ticket & exhibitor sales & more!

Power-Con*, the first annual MOTU and POP fan convention in the US, is coming!
Tentatively scheduled for fall of this year, Power-Con is working with He-Man.org to help provide the best fan experience possible.

Power-Con wants to know what you'd like to see at a MOTU and POP fan convention!
Please post your feedback in this thread.

We'll be posting more information as it develops!

*This convention is not sponsored by, or affiliated with Mattel, Inc. or Classic Media, Inc.

    ----------
    UPDATE 1:

As far as location, I can tell you now it will most likely be NY or CA. Those states have the highest concentration of fans who visit this site, as well as the highest concentration of talent involved in MOTU and POP both past and present, so please don't suggest locations. Any posts doing so will be edited or deleted.
I'll let you know when I hear more and can post the info.

As far as exclusives, I wouldn't count on any toy exclusives.
Though nothing is being ruled out as this stage.
Just know that this is a fan convention, that will no doubt start out modest in size, with a focus on fans, special guests and vendors,
just like with other fan conventions in the past (Bot-Con, My Little Pony Fair, Jem Con, etc)

Please suggest things you'd like to see at the con itself. That's what the Power-Con team would love to hear about. Thanks!

Show hours are from 10am to 6pm on Saturday followed by a limited attendance dinner (details coming soon) and then an after-hours mixer open to everyone
and from 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

The official Power-Con fan convention website will be launching VERY soon!

I'd like to see a big Matty booth with MOTUC stock available to purchase. I'd also like to see ancillary merch: posters, shirts, etc.

There should definitely be incentives - things not found elsewhere. Displays of MOTU's history - be they in toy, book, media.

Panels: Filmation, MYP, Mattel, NA, POP - any and all areas, the more diverse the better.

Exclusives: Doubtful there'd be a figure, but that would be awesome. Contests/giveaways of some sort.

    Dealers. Artists. Cosplay.

    The works.

I would love to see some of the actors and behind-the-scenes talent from the 1987 film appear at the convention. Anthony DeLongis goes to Star Trek and Highlander conventions all over the world, so I think he would be game for a MOTU one. Would also be great to get actors like Pons Maar, Meg Foster and Robert Towers.

How about something different lets not invite dealers/scalpers lets just have a "TRADING AREA" (read no money changes hands just trades) maybe we will start something that will trancend this show as others copy the idea.

yeah and anyone with nothing to trade is fubared.

Convention holders make a lot of $$ off vendor rooms so this would be a major bad idea for them to turn away dealers & vendors. Some shows I've been to have had to go thru an "audit" of sorts to show their "worth & relevence". Joe Con (for example) only allows vendors who sell Joe-related stuff. This prohibits a lot of "yard salers" and "bootleggers". Unfortunately it would also mean I couldn't be a vendor. Then again, if it's on the West Coast I likely couldn't attend in any capacity.

Panels with creators from every incarnation is a great idea.
    Charity raffles/auction.
Movie room with the live action and cartoons airing around the clock. This should be legal since tickets are not being charged for the broadcasts.
Convention exclusives for sure. Comics would be great and fairly easy to produce. Even the smallest (100 person) cons often have toy exclusives though so I'd definitely look into that. Examples of these small cons include Slagcon (TFs) and Canada Joe Con.

i think some sort of exclusive is vital to fans desire to go rather than not. i think all degree of fans should be considered not just classics. maybe a mini comic or something odd and not directly mattel owned. but ideally it would be good for teh con to get support from mattel like botcon did wit hasbro.

I am not a huge fan of the live action movie, but I think we could land Dolph Lundgren.

As for what there should be at the Power Con:

    Speakers/Q&As:
Ted Mayer - Initial vehicle and accessory designer for the MOTU line

    Dolph Lundgren: He-Man himself.

Christina Pickles and Courtney Cox - they could sign 'Friends' blu-rays as well as MOTU movie merch and draw a larger crowd as a result... ok, ok...

'FILMATION 'HM&TMOTU' lecture with UK's James Eattock'

Artist Alley with the Gooblers and other fan artists.

Four Horseman round table and mould-a-figure contest.

    MOTU costume contest

MOTU movie prop and costume exhibition

MATTY Collector exclusive POWER CON figure 2-pack launch (Shadow Weaver and Fang Man)

Finale: A scene-byscene recreation of 'PS I LOve You' (but with a giant anomatronic Gygor and a giant animatronic Shadow beast)

    ... we can dream...

As for exclusives, which I see a lot of people wanting, what about having some of our local customizers/casters create something for it? Maybe offer an original character or something of that nature? With the talent on this board, I can't see that as being too difficult to pull off. Not sure how far from a legal standpoint that can be pushed, but it's certainly an idea and a nice compromise if Mattel can't/won't offer anything.

    Realistically,
How many people do you think will be there? Clearly there is a community of He-Man fans, but that number even pales in comparison to Transformers (mostly because they stayed on toy shelves and didn't disappear for twenty years at a time). It seems like a lofty goal, but it seems like it might be better attached to a larger con to ensure a crowd. Vendors won't opt for a second trip if they just get window shopped by 100 people.

I don't want to be a downer, I just worry about another flop on the tarnished record of MotU.

If it happens in Cali, then most international fans will have a hard time attending due to the hugely increased air fare and very expensive lodging, comparatively.

I guess the US fans are the focus for this, but...
