    Toyguru Mattycollector.com MOTUC news thread--March 2011

Welcome to the Toyguru Mattycollector.com MOTUC news thread for March 2011!

Toyguru's Recent Posts on Mattycollector.com's Forum

Like last year, instead of posting EVERY little thing in it's own post, I'll gather them ALL the relevant MOTUC Ask Matty postings here. Keep checking for updates! The old threads are ancient history and won't be updated anymore. This is the new spot until next month.

As always, I'll put the most recent news up first, while the old news is down the bottom.

    Figure Errors

With Hsss and Roboto recently having problems, you've pointed out that nobody noticed from the samples of either figure. For the record, Roboto is not noticable for me, but Hsss is. My other issue with him is the fact that the torso is loose. I much would have prefered a system like Plastic Man has, but thats a whole other issue... Even if someone had noticed, there wouldn't be enough time to get a new batch made in time for the sale. If something like this was caught early enough, would you even have the financial resources to make the appropriate changes? I'm assuming no based on things you've said. So what is your incentive to tell us in advance on these mistakes? Isn't it easier to just roll the dice and hope people just buy them all and either not notice or apologize after they do notice?

It takes months to make changes to a figure (if not up to a year) due to the logistics of toy production.
"IF" You Do 200X King Hssss ?

Will he get the same Snake Form from current Hssss OR brand new Snake Form sculpt ?

Considering the 200X version King Hsss needs more new tooling’s, I am curious to ask this !

Likely. We could even do two versions of 200X King Hssss as two differtent toys, one in human form and one in snake form. Or maybe we could do him like vintage Hssss with swappable parts. Anything is possible, but nothing is planned right now. but we will keep our options open based on what our budget is when and if we get to this variant of Hssss down the road.
King Hssss 2002 head - Was it sculpted?

I understand asking for it to be included with king hssss would be asking too much with the snake form as well, but did the 4H sculpt a 2002 design head that might see the light of day on a varient king hssss further down the road?

No. At this point the Horsemen have pretty much stopped sculpting unrequested parts since these parts usually don't get tool'd anyway (since the are not budgeted into the toy's project number) and we keep them so busy between MOTU and DC toys that they just don't have time to sculpt extra parts that we know won't wind up in the final toy!
    Royal Swiftwind

Is Royal Swiftwind's mane and tail going to be light pink or hot pink??

This is my personal favorite version. I have this one still MIB!!! It's my favorite POP from the past!

This is up to the Four Horsemen and we have not received a paintmaster yet.
Is Sy-Klone and Panthor getting a price increase?

Just wondering because they don't have their prices listed and I've read rumors of toy prices getting bumped up

No. There is not a price increase. I'll shoot an email over to the digital group and get those prices listed. ;-)
Beastman - Face paint or natural look?

So which is it, TG? Face paint or his natural skin/look?

Personally, I see it as facepaint. But I don't know if anyone in the entertainment group has truly made that call "officially".
How is Catra more than 5000 years old?

I want to know if you're able to explain how Catra, who most people would agree is a normal human being with no real magical paowers, can be more than 5000 years old and not age? I know in Bow's bio, it states that the Evil Horde is ageless, and it can be easy to look at a galactic, demonic being as Hordak being ageless, but for Catra, it's hard to believe. Does it have something to do with how time works in Despondos, or is it "magic". What gives?

Maybe time works different in Despondos? Maybe Hordak used magic to keep all of his cronnies young? Clearly some factor was at work that kept all of Kur's top guys around the same age between there banishment in Despondos during Grayskull's time and their escape during He-Man's time. I don't imagine Leech, Grizzlor, Mantenna, Catra and the rest are all from species that can age to 5,000 years without looking old. That seems like a stretch.

For the full scoop, you'll just need to keep reading the bios!
    30 Rock

Did any of you catch MOTUC Skeletor on 30 Rock and did you know it was coming or were you as pleasantly surprised as we all were!

Total surprise, I was watching it with my wife and jumped out of the chair!
    CATRA's bio question: Disputed Monarch

I had a quick question. Is "disputed monarch" meant to read "deposed monarch" as in, she used to be queen and she was booted from her throne for being evil, or disputed, as in her monarchy was up for debate/confrontation?

Thanks in advance! (and for answering all the questions this weekend!)

It means disputed, just as it states! Obviously there was a lot going on in Catra's past. Keep reading the bios!
    How to be Toyguru

You have a seemingly cool job. What does your job entail, and how does one get a job like that?

As a "Brand Manager" my job is to oversee one (or in my case quite a few) Mattel toy lines. My main "job" at Mattel is running the 2011 Green Lantern theatrical line (launching at retail May 1st, but we have been working on it for over 2 years!) It is similar to the role of a producer in a film. Each brand has a toy design, package design, legal, copy, engineering, and PR team. My job in one sense is to coordinate all of the teams for the best finished product.

A brand manager also sets the overall strategy and goals for the brand to meet the financial objectives set forth by management (i.e. we are assigned a sales goal, a number of skus, a tooling budget, a PR budget etc...) My job is to manage all of these together. I also manage things like the case packs and quotas for production by working with our sales team and retail partners.

My career path in particular was a little unorthodox. I started out at Mattel as a writer on the Hot Wheels brand (before coming to Mattel I was a professional writer for 5 years and was recruited into Mattel through my professional work). I worked my way up in the company (mostly out of love for DC and MOTU toys!) to my current marketing position, helping to work on reshaping our convention presence, fan relations and helping to start up the Mattycollector.com business and MOTUC toy line along the way! It has indeed been a blast.

The most direct way to get a position in Mattel marketing is to get your MBA from a major university. Mattel sends out recruiters to many large national MBA programs to recruit the top candidates for upcoming Marketing brand management positions.

Either way, a job in the toy industry is a lot of fun and if it is what you want to do, the number one thing is to have a specific job you are looking for. I get hundreds of people at conventions who want to "work at Mattel" but have no idea what they want to do. The more specific the job you want, the more you can aim to look into that as a possibility.

You can apply to open positions in Mattel at Mattel.com and clicking on career opportunities.

    Good luck!
Is the Tri-Star System in the Catra bio the same as the NA Tri-Solar System

I just wanted to say Catra looks great and I enjoyed her bio, even though some fans have some qualms about the whole use of calling her step daughter instead of adoipted daughter of Hordak. However, I was wondering if this Tri-Star System that she came from is the same as the Tri-Solar System from the New Adventures canon, and as seen on the bio of Optikk.

Yes, this was legitimately an error. I am in charge of proofing the bios and I'll admit I missed this one. It should have been Tri-Solar system on her bio! If we ever do a re-release we'll look into correcting this.
    She-ra 2.0 Filmation Tiara

Hello, I would like to know if She-ra 2.0 is going to include a Filmation Tiara besides the vintage doll mask.

I kindly request for it to be included, it's a small accessory that would go a long way with us Filmation fans, and it doesn't require too much tooling.

Please consider it, we would appreciate it very much.

To manage expectations, the new She-Ra will not have a "Filmation" (or style guide) tiara. But she is designed so you can use either of the heads from the first release on her body to mix and match to create your ultimate She-Ra!
Ram Stone at C2E2 no longer translucent?

Why is the Faceless One's Ram Stone on display at C2E2 no longer translucent green?

Which version of the Ram Stone is going to be the final version?

If anyone cares, my vote goes for the translucent green Ram Stone.

The version shown at C2E2 (less transparent) will be the final version. A transparent one might be a great idea for a weapon pak down the road perhaps!
Re-releases of Roboto & King Hsss

Mattel and Toyguru really need to do something to save face here, and they need to do it quickly. Telling fans that they are taking new steps to stop these kind of mistakes happening in the future is appreciated, but I believe that something tangible that will appease upset people needs to be done, and soon.

I think Mattel/Toyguru need to announce that both Roboto & King Hsss will have re-tooled figures released in 2012, and that they've pushed a couple of new figures back in order to make this happen. Fans may be annoyed that new characters have been put on the back-burner, but the inferior Roboto & King Hsss are much bigger concerns at the moment.

They could even put it to a fan vote, similar to the one with the colour for Man-E-Faces. Have fans decide if they want to see corrected versions of Roboto & King Hsss rather then new characters in 2012. If fans choose new characters, then at least when someone brings up these mistakes, Mattel can say "well, fans decided new characters were more important, so that's why we're not releasing corrected versions of Roboto & King Hsss".

I totally understand the desire for re-release. To manage expectation, I can confirm there are none scheduled for 2012. The versions out now are the versions available. Revised releases may happen some day, but not until awhile down the road.
    The Castle

The Castles at NYTF and C2E2 are great - were they designed by Mattel staff? And do you guys have a favourite out of the two?

They were done by the talented model makers in our trade show department. I love the Castle Graysykull and Oa dioramas. They did an awesome job.
Toy Guru in your apology you said the following
"As I stated, we've already spoken to the design group management (who had promised to fix this after Roboto) and one thing they are looking into is labeling the inside of all shoulders "L" and R" as well as implementing other new procedures."

Ok I took my king Hsss torso apart and fixed his shoulders so they are correct and put him back together after viewing this link.

    http://he-man.us/Innovations/MOTUC-C...KingHssss.html

The problem that your Design team needs to address is not that the shoulders need to be stamped with an L & R on them because they already have the L & R stamps BUT the Right Shoulder got stamped with the L & the Left shoulder got stamped with the R That is the problem that needs to be addressed. The Factory isn't even at fault since the workers saw L & R and attached the arms according to the stamps on shoulder pegs. Who ever tooled the shoulders mislabled them and this needs to be corrected for King Hssss's reissue because to reissue a figure with a defect and charge us $30.00 with shipping is un acceptable.

Just thought I would point this out so you can bring it up with design.

Yup! We saw this as well and are looking into several solutions to ensure this does not happen again.
Will you let fans know about Hssss' shoulders before his April Fool's Day sale?

I understand what's done is done when it comes to King Hssss' reversed shoulders and it doesn't bother me at all, as I think he is a great figure, plus I think his loose torso is a bigger issue, but that's anothe complaint for another day. However, some fans are really bothered about the shoulders like it's the end of the world, and though nothing can be done about his shoulders, do you at least plan to let fans know about the shoulde issues that might not have heard about the problem or do you plan to keep quiet on the issue & do a switch on bait on fans who might just want to skip on the figure all together because of the shoulders?

This isn't a bate and switch. The image on the sale page as well as the sample shown at NYTF and given out to reviewers is all of the same version that ships (yes, sadly with swapped shoulder armor). So fans know what they are getting. It isn't a surprise. Images and samples have been shown for months. I'm honestly shocked no one saw this until now. We gave out over 20 samples to reviewers who came to collector night at NYTF as a free gift for coming, and not one person noted this swap in their review! I had a sample on my desk for months and never noticed it. This just goes to show you how minor this flaw is! (I hope!)
    Correct packaging

Just opened my King Hssss. Looked at the figure and admired the sculpt. Turned it over to read the Fluff and saw that it was on the Preturnia Desguise He-man card. Great, there goes my display of him, without the card. Am I going to have to buy another on 4/1 to try and get a correctly carded figure?

You can return an unopened incorrect carded figure to Digital River for a replacement by contacting customer service.
    hsss is great!!!

thanks scott for HSSS, is one of the best figures motuc of all, his smile is unforgettable.
about the shoulders, human error is inevitable in life.

I tend to agree. I had this figure on my desk for month and never noticed anything! (not to mention not one person at NYTF including the Horsemen or any of the reviewers we gave sample to at the show!)

    I really think he rocks!
    Ramstone Opacity

Hi TG, thanks so much for the alterations to FO's hood, hes an amazing looking figure!

But one thing I noticed about the pics from the recent Show is that the Ramstone looks opaque, I was hoping it would be translucent like Marzos Amulet.

Can you please confirm if the latest image is what we will get (ie- Matte)

The final version is less transparent. You can see it on the almost final model at C2E2 on display along with the black deco added to the hood fans asked for!
Will Sy-Klone's reversed shoulders from NYTF be fixed in time for his sale date?

At NYTF, Pixel Dan presented a video with the 2 of you going over the new MOTUC figures in displayed, and when you were going over the Sy-Klone figure with Dan, you mentioned that the shoulders on this figure were reversed, but that the shoulders would be corrected on the released version. Now, with all the hoopla that went on with King Hssss' shoulders, can you at least guarantee that when Sy-Klone is released on April 15th, that the shoulders will indeed be corrected? I would hate to see the uproar that Sy-Klone causes if the shoulders were not corrected 1 month after the KH debacle, especially with you being the one to point out that S-K's shoulders were wrong TO Pixel Dan and stating that they will be fixed in time for his sale date.

Yes this was corrected and double checked.
the world its not falling apart

Just to let you know where I'm standing face to King Hsss shoulders...
The shoulders are reversed, that sucks... but we will have a corrected version down the road right?

So the world its not falling apart, its not like we can't survive to this and I'm a moc collector.

It's major disappointing, I will not lie to you on that but as long as I have the opportunity to buy a corrected one I'll not loose my sleep over it.

So what is done is done and I think its more productive to look up into the future now, rather than annoying every one on the mattel team with this subject.

Thank you for this great line. King Hssss is still a great figure!
    Thank you very much

You are welcome. And just so all the cards are on the table, while it is possible a "corrected" Hssss could be done at one point, due to the tooling needed (we can't just swap the shoulders, they would need to be re-tool'd, we checked) it is very unlikely this will happen anytime soon.
A resources suggestion for 2012 production...

I do appreciate the fact that you take the time to address the forums and provide answers, even during unpleasant situations. The recent discovery of King Hssss' shoulders being reversed has disapointed many, as well as yourself. I can only imagine the frustration you and your team must be going through, right now. I am not here to complain, as I understand that mistakes will happen. Rather than rant I am offering a potential solution for when mistakes like this happen...

As far as budgets for toylines are concerned, I am not aware as to whether or not you are required to use all the provided resources within that given year. Can a portion of your resources/budget for future installments (years) of the toyline be set aside, so that it will be available when/if a mistake like this occurs again and it can be fixed? Perhaps it would mean one less non-subscription diorama or weapons pak for the first year this is implemented (so that we still maintain the same amount of figures monthly/quarterly). If no mistakes occur that year, the money in reserve could be retained for the following year or applied towards a non-subscription product late in the 4th quarter. If the retained resources can be carried over to the next year, then the inclusion of a weapons pack or diorama can start up again, since a "mistake bank" is already available and in reserve.

Technically, Mattel wouldn't be losing money if this process were implemented...at least, not that I am aware of. Sure, it could mean 1 or 2 less products be sold that first year. But, I think in the long run it would provide comfort for the costumers if they knew there is a means to correct issues with figures, when deemed necessary.

    What do you think?

No it doesn't work like this. When the year is over, budgets are closed and we move to the next year.
If and When you get to the Battle Ram . . .

Is it possible to sell the vehicle as a whole set, then have some of the detached sleds to sell individually? Many fans would jump on this.

You'll just need to wait for SDCC for any new on the vehicle slot.
    TG is on a roll

So let us see if he will address Cornerstone Logistics... FINALLY.

More reports of packages arriving damaged Mr. Guru and this is not good. It took near a MONTH for DR to settle the return for my damaged goods after they told me I had to go through UPS... who didn't even handle the package!

Stuff is very late and damaged. Mattel.com uses UPS, why is Matty Collector, part of Mattel, so different?

The reason I don't answer these type of questions is the same reason I don't answer questions about brands I m not on like WWE or Batman.

The logistics in running Mattycollector.com is not what my group does. I work on product development for collector lines like MOTUC, DCU, GB and Green Lantern. I can answer questions about the lines I work on but for questions on other brands or questions on logistics of the site I pass those questions along to the teams that work on these.

When they have time to stop by the boards, I'm sure the other brand managers will answer questions. We are just all very busy and if you notice from my posting times, they are usually on the weekends.

I don't work for Mattel PR. I am a brand manager but also a fan. As a fan I love interacting on the boards. But I can't force other brand managers to do so!
    Teela's swiched parts.

Ok, with all the ruckus over reveres shoulders, Ive got to wonder about this. Robotos shoulders didnt bother me, king hiss's do a bit, but why is there all this angst over it, and nothing over teela's backwards arm braces, which have been backwards not only on her, but on evil-lyn, godess, and the upcomming battlegrounds teela.

ive always though her bracers looked realy dumb protecting the inside of her arm personaly. honestly, the shoulders to me are not a major deal (I know they totaly are to scott though, and I cant blame him for that, this toy lines his baby after all) but the bracers are.

what gets me is, that everyones gone ape over the shoulders, and not one person has said anything about the armguards, other then me of course. I know this isnt something thats probably ever going to get fixed, far too little too late for that, but any insight onto this one?

Actually, you are incorrect. If you look at the original Horsemen prototype, they made the choice to reverse the arm guards as this is the correct way a solider would wear guards (to protect the arm when pulling a bow or holding a spear).

Much like we add articulation and deco, we also strive to make sculpting improvements to the vintage line too.

If you "swapped the arm guards" the muscle structure would be off.
    More lame excuses

What can i say the hits just keep coming with the motc line. Shipping issues, poorly assembled figures I.E. Backwards shoulders, green goddess exploding crotch, and a few others that slip the mind at this moment.saying that.come on mattel this is a fan driven adult collectable. There is a certain level of expectation when you fork over thirty bucks for each figure. Where is the quality control? I had tons of issues with with dcu line bad joints gummed up with paint causing the appendage, when manipulated to just break off. I am tired of the excuses.toy guru I know you feel the pain of the fans and our laments, but simply agreeing with us does not help. After the roboto incident that's when they should have started the marks of left and right for these pieces. Once bitten twice shy. I really have lost my faith that you or mods can offer us any sincere help. The veracious appetite for this product by the fans will not stop them from purchasing your items, and I suspect you know this.now we the fans are at the mercy of you and the drones that mindlessly assemble this stuff.

Putting out high end collector action figures is no easy task. I do remember a time when all fans were asking for was a online site that Mattel would sell collector figures from and a new MOTU line.

Nothing is perfect, but from a big picture perspective of what fans were asking for (from where we were in 2007), man have we come a long way! Remember what our SDCC booth looked like back then! We've made some great strides. There are more to be had, but we ain't slacking off!
    PLEASE, FIRE THE DESIGN MANAGER

I am really tired to pay $20.00 for a suposslly COLLECTOR ACTION FIGURE. ROBOTO and KING HISS do not worth that cost. If the price of an Action Figure is so high, well the "MATTEL MANAGEMENT" must asign the Budget to do the things well. I am tired to listen about the lack of resourcess. If MATTEL have not the ressourcess, well them close the MOTUC Line and close the Company. But do not give us this kind of things.

I am tyred to buy and buy DEFECTIVES Action Figures. THERE are DEFECTIVE, because they ARE NOT as I want, they ARE NOT as you showed at TOYFARE. THEY ARE DEFECTIVE. Now I am listening that Design Department are implementING L and R inside the Shoulders. Why they didnīt that when the ROBOTO thing take place ????

Please, transfer the DESIGN MANAGER to ALASKA. Maybe, there he will do creative ideas to solve the problems before they arrive to the collectors.

Do you want to sound ETHICAL and COSTUMER COMPROMISED ???? Well, PROMISE US that the next time this happen; you will give us the option of an inmediate refund. That will mean that MATTEL is really compromised with the quality and with their Costumers. Remember the JHONSONS & JHONSON TYLENOL CASE ???? They retired all the product defective.

    Do the same.

Sorry, we just can't survive without Bill and Terry!
    Battle Stands?

A few months ago you mentioned the possibility of doing some Snake Mountain themed Battle Stands, I was just wondering if there was any info you could update us with regarding them?

I would also like to know what the likely hood of getting Fright Zone Battle Stands and some Eternia Battle Stands would be?

We plan on doing some new stands but not until Fall 2012.
No other army building pack in 2011????

The current planning for large scales seems to include Megator and Swiftwind in Q3 and Q4.

Is it possible we get a new 2-pack (Army building or other) in 2011? Could it be out of the subscription?

The only item that will be out of the subscriptions are the SDCC item, the fall vehicle and She-Ra 2.0.

The 2011 line was approved in Dec 2009, so there won't be additions at this point. We are currently working on Spring 2012.
    king Hsss on 4/1??

Will you still be putting more King Hssss up on 4/1 ? Will these be correct versions ? And if there if they are not will you be selling them at a discount ? I am just wondering because I had planned on getting King Hssss but if it is not for sure he is fixed I will not bother.

I understand that some people may not want King Hssss when he goes back on sale in a week or so (due to not all the inventory being ready for his sale day, much like what happened with Vikor). But he is completely produced and shipped (or at least shipping as we speak on a boat). We're not going to be discounting him. This is your King Hssss people.

To redo the shoulders would require new tooling (we found this out while pulling one apart today). We can't even just swap the shoulders like we did with He-Man. This makes a reissue that much more less likely.

You are more then welcome to pass on Hssss and I respect that. But keep in mind your collection will then be missing him. We really don't have plans or the resources/logistics for a Hssss 2.0 with tooling at this point. (a tooling sku takes up even more resources then a "quick fix" development sku like we used for He-Man).

Sorry for not having better news, but this is where we are.

And for the record, he really is still an amazing figure. If you've got him, your a lucky collector. ;-)
Is there a chance for this?

I hope Mattel and 4Horsemen seize the opportunity and make the REAL vintage tiara this time. Since the new MOTUC She-Ra will no longer have the hole in his forehead and her removable tiara is going to be redone, there is no reason to keep the tiara that came with the first version. It covers the forehead and is quite different from the original.

This is a great way to refresh She-Ra and add a new accessory that will give us new possibilities for displaying this figure as a variant. Is it possible?

This is one of many things we are reviewing for She-Ra 2.0 due in early fall. We can tell you there will not be a hole in the head for swapping masks.
Toyguru could you help moc collectors?

Some King Hssss's are coming on preternia disguised he-man packages, could this be traded by ones in corrected boxes?

Yes. Please just contact Mattycollector.com customer service if you receive a clear error in packaging.
King Hssss appears to have reversed shoulders...

I thought this ended with Roboto...

Here we go again... King Hssss has reversed shoulders.

    Yup. Me too.

I won't offer excuses folks. This is the first time I've seen this issue as well and I elevated it (once again) to design management (cause frankly this burns me more then anyone since we put so much time into trying to get these guys perfect, kills me when anything is off).

At the end of the day when a line has such a small run like MOTUC these things happen. We do do all we can to catch these and I'm honestly shocked after Roboto that the design team missed this- again. Seriously not happy about this.

We'll keep trying, that is all I can say. And I'm truly sorry another one slipped through the cracks. I wish we had the resources of a large line like Barbie or even DCUC. With MOTUC the production runs are just so small that we make due with the very limited resources we have. Really sucks when they don't come out perfect, but mistakes do happen. I am sorry another one did.

I'd like to promise this will "never happen again" but I just can't do that as there are two many factors. As I stated above, we've already spoken to the design group management (who had promised to fix this after Roboto) and one thing they are looking into is labeling the inside of all shoulders "L" and R" as well as implementing other new procedures.

We'll do all we can. No one gets more upset over this then myself.

    Scott
PLEASE; GIVE US A THE LORD OF ZALESIA SECOND HEAD WITH THE FACELESS ONE.

The fans are receiving every time more lack of heads in the last Action Figures.

We hope an extra head with ZODAK, none.
We hope an extra head with KELDOR, none.
We hope and extra head with BUZZ OFF, none.
We hope an extra head with GRIZZLOR, none.
We hope and extra head with CLAWFUL, right now we know we will not recive a second head.

Many fans as me, buyed two or three susbcriptions to show our collection with the different heads; and it has been very dissaponting to see the lack of heads.

Please, make the FACELESS ONE Fans happy.

Give us a LORD OF ZALESIA SECOND HEAD.
The man who was before to be Faceless One.

If you have to "stop the press", it will be in benefit of the people who admire your work.

I hope most fans know by this point the Faceless One is well into production, so changes at this time are simply not possible. As for the second heads, our plan was always to do the second heads sparingly. We wanted the inclusion of an extra head to be special. If we did it for every figure it would not be such a cool feature when one shows up.

So we save extra heads when there is a compelling reason to do one. That's as much of a rule as we have. (and since the 200X look is retired, (since I know this will be asked) that does not make a "200X look head" a compelling reason! ;-)

We've got a lot of second heads in the works just you wait!
Beast Man- is this variant possible?

I was thinking, that a Beast Man with red Keldor boots/feet would really look cool, as it would be very cartoon-like.

And we got all the parts:

    - Beast Man body
    - Keldor boots
    - hairy lower leg of Carnivus/Grizzlor

he could get Carnivus hands, too and come with a real yellow armor (not brown), for not to be too closely to his Filmation counterpart.

If you pull him out, you can switch the armor to get a cartoon Beast Man...

Is something like this, after Zodac, possible?

I suppose it is possible, but nothing like this is planned right now.
    New reveals on C2E2?

Can we expect any motu new revelations on C2E2 in chicago?

We may have one or two new figures, but for the most part you will see in person what was shown at NYTF. I can tell you there will not be any new reveals for GB or MOTU for sure. We simply don't have any new characters developed far enough along to show yet.
Matty: Can we get a pile of loot option?

I'd really like to take advantage of combined shipping but your site can't seem to keep an exclusive in stock for more than a day and you never have 2 exclusives at the same time is there any chance we can get this option?

This is something we are working on and will hopefully have new purchase options in the near future.
Question about Ram-Man, when his time comes...

I've been thinking about the figures we will hopefully get in the years to come for MOTU Classics, and one question (among many) that has been on my mind a lot is how Ram-Man will be designed. Basically, I'm wondering whether Ram-Man will be a little larger in scale to the rest of the figures, or will he be the same size? The question popped up when thinking about the Beast-Man figure. In the original cartoon, Beast-Man was the same size as all the other characters, and that's how his Classics figure was made. But looking at him side by side with Evil-Lyn, for example, he seems smaller, which looks goofy to me. Maybe it's just my Mike Young Productions preference, but I feel Beast-Man should be noticeably larger than the other figures, and the same should go for Ram-Man. I think he should be just a touch bigger than everyone else. Is this something management has taken into consideration, and if so, will he cost any more than other figures? Thanks in advance for taking the times to answer.

p.s.-I'd gladly pay a few extra bucks for a larger scale monthly figure.

Likely he will be a bit bigger, but honestly, Ram Man is not locked in yet for release so these discussions simply have not happened.
Kobra khan camuflado: Is he possible?

I looked in the "Ask Matty" forum for anything regarding Kobra Khan Camuflado, the variant version of Kobra Khan produced in Argentina. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything that answered whether or not he is a character that you have the ability to produce (legally). Do you have the licensing rights to him?

Yes that is possible. But we would most likely do the standard Kahn first.
A SKELETOR VARIANT TO MATCH EVERY HE-MAN VARIANT ??

During the days of the MOTU ORIGINAL TOYLINE, Mattel designed one Skeletor variant for each He – Man variant.

I used to love to display they together, and made them battle. This was the same way Mattel used for the HE – MAN TOYLINE. One Skeletor for each He – Man. The only problem I had with the 200XX LINE was the 4HM did not designed a Skeletor for each He – Man. I think, Mattel had to create and launch some CHEAP repaints of Skeletor to solve the problem and gave the fans enough “Skeletors”. I would love a Skeletor variant to mach SHIELD STRIKE HE – MAN.

Please, in the MOTUC line use the original way and give us a Skeletor variant for each He – Man. I am worry because the ETERNIA EXCLUSIVE is the PRETERNIA HE – MAN. I personally love this figure. Would we see something like a “TIME ARMOR SKELETOR” to match the PRETERNIA HE-MAN ???? Will we see a SKELETOR VARIANT for each HE-MAN VARIANT ???? Please, give us a Skeletor figure ready to battle the PRETERNIA HE – MAN. Also, please give us one Skeletor for each He - Man

It is always possible and this would be a fun homage to the vintage line. We'll just have to see how the line shapes up in the years to come!
    Question on Statues from SDCC

Where do they go after SDCC ? Are they for sale?

They are stored in a Mattel location along with other brand "props" like Hot Wheels cars, Barbie furniture and the such items between shows. They are not for sale. Sorry!
What Cosmic Key will Gwildor come with?

Hi Toy Guru, I was wondering with the current Cosmic Key being an accessory that comes with the Preternia Disguised He-Man figure, which is a Club Eternia exclusive, will Gwildor also come with the same Cosmic Key, or will he come with his vintage Cosmic Key that was out through the proverbial Classics machine? As awesome as the new key that comes with PE He-Man is, I think it would be great to have the vintage key with Gwildor since it plays to the part that there were 2 Cosmic Keys in the 1987 movie, & Gwildor was running around with the prototype will Skeletor had his hands on the complete version.

Gwildor will likely come with the key that looks like the one from the vintage toy. We are calling this the "prototype Cosmic Key", if you will to differentiate it from the one with Preternia He-Man.

But honestly, that is about as far as we have gotten discussing Gwildor. He is not slotted in for a release right now so these type of discussions have not gotten farther then us just speculating and thinking out loud.
    SLL Teela

Has Teela's appearance from Secret Liquid of Life mini-comic been considered as a Teela varient?

Sure, but nothing planned right now (especially with Battleground Teela coming out in a few months). You can always swap heads to get a mini comic look using orignal Teela body and Battleground Teela head! The skin tones are not a perfect match but we tried to be as close as possible so fans could customize if they wanted!

    Yup, just like Megator

I never believe the "it's not planned right now" line. I especially don't believe that this figure isn't slotted in, because according to TG, ALL the figures are slotted in, with room for changes, and Gwildor was TM'd last year along with Catra, Marlena, Sweet Bee, Slush Head, Snout Spout, Multi-Bot. Now, granted, only one of those has been announced, but they did TM the figure.

Exactly...remember Whiplash too? Those were two characters who weren't coming, but they showed up. It's not a guarantee that they aren't coming.

Yes . I thought of him after I posted but figured you, or someone else would bring him up.

I'm starting to feel like if they say "NO" then it's coming soon lol. Though, for some reason, I do believe what they said about Entrapta being a bit far off for now (which is a bummer).

The thing is, this year is heavy with pretty great A/B list vintage MOTU figures. They've GOT to throw in ones like Gwildor to balance things.

    We have:

    King Hssss
    Panthor
    BA Skeletor
    Sy-Klone
    Megator
    Clawful

We might get someone like, let's say, Mantenna (the "other uniquely tooled" figure this year, as per TG's comment).

They are going to have to in one if the less popular vintage MOTU's if they aren't going to use NA or POP or a concept or 200X figure: someone like Gwildor, Snout Spout, etc (though I actually love both of them).

As for that Battleground Teela answer...if she was supposed to be Teela, then shouldn't the colors have matched up? I wonder if the 4H original envisioned her to be someone else and then Mattel changed her to be Teela afterward? I hope that the colors are close enough like the 200X He-Man custom that some fans made from King Grayskull.

Probably because her & Catra coming in close succession is pretty inconcievable.

Well, with five character slots (including SDCC, which may be a two-pack with a small character) unrevealed, there's at least one NA and probably one PoP female to come...

    Yes. I hope so.
As much as I'd rather get Darius first, I think the "Galactic Protector" they keep hinting at is NA He-Man. Then I'd bet we get either Flogg or Slush Head this year too.

The other POP character could be Sweet Bee, based on the TM, but we know Scott changes things. He also makes a lot if decisions based on personal preference, so who knows?

Maybe I should start saying I hate Sweet Bee. Maybe then she will be announced lol

yeah, i totally agree here ...

having 2 keys in the line seems odd to me ... even though the original toy version was drastically different to the movie version ...

I thought the same thing. They should already have the paint master for Teela so why didn't they use it for BG Teela?

Women don't always wear the same make up. Like hair colour, they like to change their make up

I'm really glad to hear that BG Teela's head will fit on the standard Teela body.
The big collar on the regular Teela made me a bit nervous it might not due to the hair.
As for the skin tone, I hope it's not too drastically different. As long as it's close, even if it's not exact, I can live with it (the skin tone on He-Man's head doesn't exactly match his body skin tone either).
Fictional characters are just that. Fictional. They have no personality or free will of their own.
Writers and editors mold them to their own wants and needs.
All we as the audience and fans can do is pick and choose our favorite interpretation and ignore the rest.

It can't be NA He-Man--I'm positive he would be a variant and TG has stated that the NA figure will be a monthly slot.

Oh! I missed that. That kind of makes me happy, as I'd rather have Darius or Hydron first (assuming they use one of the two TM'd NA names).

I like that Gwildor will come with a "prototype" Cosmic Key. Having them look different will bring more variety to the line.

I like it too. It's like the movie.

I used to use the vintage key as the prototype and the gun from the Stilt Stalkers as the regular key.

Given that Mattel knows many fans (like myself) want to recreate series 2 mini-comic Teela by headswapping BGTeela onto original Teela's body, I just cannot understand why the skin colour is different. Such a needless fault.

In terms of the He-Man and Skeletor variants, I think it will be hard to keep pace cos of all the past 'He-Men' like Wun-Dar and Vikor, etc. I am happy to see variants that make sense and recapture the glory of the vintage line, and those from 200x. BTW, the vintage line had one more He-Man variant than Skele, in terms of Prince Adam. This line has already tried to match that with Keldor. However, I could easily see a disco, smash-blade or Snake Attack Skeletor released as a Preternia version of Skeletor.

I'm glad Mattel are thinking of releasing Gwildor with a vintage toy inspired Cosmic Key. As I've said long ago in another thread, there were 2 keys in the movie so it is not unreasonable to have 2 different keys in MOTUC.
