    Answers to WTFWTK 2.147!

Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your Round 147 questions!

This round of questions were selected by SonOfHeMan.
Thanks to that fan for their help!

    1. SonOfHeMan: Would it be possible in the future for figures that reuse the Trap Jaw left arm to have a hand that's a little tighter grip to improve holding weapons?

We will keep that in mind. Every figure that uses a common part always has some tolerance differences when it is produced later on, so that may be something we can control to help with grip issues. If it's a full on sculpt issue, then most likely we'll try and just use a better version or do a new part.

    2. DrumMaster: Would you consider a new weapons pak with better painted weapons (for characters like Stinkor, Blade and Lizard Man) and missing weapons (like Snake Armor He-Man's shield) while adding some new ideas like He-Man's shield in Skeletor colors or Man-E-Weapons' variant Castle Grayskull weapons?

Yes we would consider it. Weapons packs are always good ways to help fill out the line if needed.

    3. Skeledor: Has Mattel thought about going the Build-A-Figure route like Marvel and DC to offer more obscure figures?

The build a figure route is typically done at retail to help sell the entire line, as well as get in characters that may be too big or obscure to fit into the main line. With MOTUC being mainly sub-based that is why we offer an exclusive sub figure, and this figure doesn't take away cost-wise from the figures that are in the sub. "Build a figure" is tough because you have to pay for the entire figure as well as the extra part, so often you have to make sacrifices to the figure that it comes with. They're great for retail collector lines, but not the best for the way MOTUC is offered.

    4. Scorpia: We've seen several independent villains released from the Filmation He-Man cartoon (Shokoti, Nepthu, Plundor) but none from the She-Ra series. Will we see any non-Horde villains released in the future such as Hunga the Harpy, Mortella or Baron Condore?

Maybe. Some of the non-Horde villain characters have shown up in early roster selections when planning out 2016 and beyond, but ultimately haven't made it yet.

    5. Snake Hunter: Battle Armor Faker was released in a Toys'R'Us 2-pack with a lower run than most figures in the Classics line. Is there any chance to get a Battle Armor Faker released on its own? It could include the Leo Toys features and weapons in order to have a Faker with all the classic variations of the character such as the shadowed eyes from the Leo Faker, the orange Battle Armor, the orange Havoc Staff, and the orange Skeletor removable belt.

That's a possibility as it would be a great refresh for the figure, but it needs to be justified by a large enough demand.

If Mattel is listening, WE NEED A BATTLE ARMOR FAKER IN CLASSICS! You guys can even use a repainted Vintage Toy head (from Oo-Larr) or the 200X Head from Snake Armor He-Man to make it different enough from the Toys R Us set.
FINALLY!! GLIMMER IS IN MY SHELF!! Crita is coming... Now I NEED SONGSTER! The Awesometastic Bard!

I think we can glean from the third answer that the subscription model will be continuing into 2016.

Here's hoping Hunga is amongst the reveals for Q1 2016 (sure, they say "haven't made it YET"... but surely "yet" could mean next week's 2016 reveals, right?).
If I'm not mistaken, this is at least the second time Matty's hinted at the return of Weapons Paks... I think similar to them shaking things up a bit with a Head Pak bonus incentive for signing up for the 200X Subscription, a well-curated selected of accessories in a new Weapons Pak would make an awesome Subscription Exclusive for a 2016 sub! Especially since character selection for Sub Exclusive figures have always been a sore point for some folks... in a Weapons Pak, surely there's bound to be at least one or two lil' somethings for everybody that would feel like a nice incentive for subbing.

Yes, it does seem they're holding onto the sub model.
A BA Faker would be a big hit, especially if they gave him a vintage head and some new accessories.
Great that accessory packs could return.

That's fine with me as long as it's a good offering. I prefer the sub over only day of sales because most of us are working during these sales. Hopefully Mattel still has day of sales for cherry pickers too. I am not sure how much post vintage MOTUC will appeal to all of us.

Is Hunga a Horde member? Then she might be coming because it says non-Horde members haven't made it.
How well did Hunga do in the org polls? I seem to remember her as very popular. Seh's certainly in my top 5!

    *edit*
I just looked it up myself. She was on position 11 but five characters of the top ten already have been made or announced for 2015. that makes her part of the top six for 2016. How can she not be planned for "2016 and beyond (!!!)" when she is one of the top six fan demanded characters?

I am really appreciating the more matter-of-fact tone of these answers. Reading them comes across as someone who is answering the question as a thoughtful individual than a marketing type. Not that there isn't a place for marketing type answers, just not my preference as I know too much marketing talk to NOT be able to interpret when someone's ********ting me.

I agree it sounds like a very definite answer.
What I was trying to say is that I question their decision-making in this case. I wonder what they were thinking and if this means that 2016 is going to be even more variant heavy than 2015. if they can't even get to the top 6 fan demanded characters I really wonder what they have planned...

Everything they have said points to a return to main characters. Probably fewer of He-Man himself, but we know Teela is coming, and I bet we'll see a few more friends who have been missing for a while....

My worry is that we'll see lots of Filmation variants and the most fan-demanded original male characters only - they'll also be mostly villains (Masque, Dylamug, Vultak, Lodar).

If they hold Hunga hostage - and Granita too - they may not have enough of the popular males to carry a future line.

Hunga's been my second most-wanted character for AGES. And if she's not shortlisted for 2016 but newer characters like Fang-Or, the Great Black Wizard and Gladiator are, I expect all hell will break loose.
Most-wanted MOTUC: Granita - Hunga the Harpy - The Melog - Dylamug - Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina - the Twiggets - King Ahgo - Filmation Grizzlor, Mantenna, Leech, Modulok and Multi-Bot

They are likely going with the plans Scott Neitlich made and obscure POP characters were not important as far as he was concerned? You also have to think about the amount of tooling involved too. Could be a Dylamug or Hunga in 2016 type situation (similiar to how it was either Razz or Sagitar in the 2014-2015 wrap up plan)

I think we have to accept that the main 2016 line will have a lot of new characters while the other half of it will have original Filmation (Masque, Dylamug and Vultak) New Adventures (Sagitar, Lizzor) and perhaps the odd comic character (Lodar)

The rumours were that the add on sub will have the Filmation variants. I don't expect the main line to be cluttered with them, though I think Filmation Teela would make a good sub exclusive. I'd sooner that, than her released with Point Dread.
    My top 10 characters: 10/Filmation Ram Man, 9/Uncle Montork & Dree-Elle, 8/Kothos, 7/Filmation Mer-Man, 6/Granita, 5/Filmation Leech, 4/Filmation Tung Lashor, 3/Twiggets (Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina), 2/Hunga the Harpy, 1/Dylamug.

Once again, real, honest, no intentionally cryptic answers, or stock/copy paste stuff, that actually give good information. This is so darn refreshing, even if we didn't starting getting great Q&A's like this until the end I'm still very greatful.

That said, I'm not quite so sure about the Non-Horde Villains answer, I don't think it was intentionally cryptic or vague, just a slightly confusing sentence - because one can read it the way I see folks interpreting it, but on the other hand it could be "ultimately have not made it yet" and "early roster" could mean that the entire "2016 and beyond" roster isn't totally solidified so they haven't made it "yet".

It's not wishful thinking or that I want to interpret it differently, but just that depending on how you read the order of the statements I can see it both ways.

I actually am surprised if it is how others are interpreting it, about Hunga specifically, particularly because she already seems to have several shared parts destined for her.

It could be they want to do her as a quarterly oversized item. Those must be really competitive slots.
    WHERE IS THE TRANSPARENCY?

Top want list: Mask of Power Demons, Snake Goddess Teela, GITD Goddess, Snake Mountain Man, Dree-Elle & Montork, 200X Beast-Man, Red Beast, Ra-Jar, Great Black Wizard, Dragoon, King Torius, 200x Centaur Chief, Queen Andreeno.

    3 Club Eternia, 3 Club 200X, 2 Collectors' Choice. 1 Beast Man. 1 Camo Khan. 1 Granymyr

As with others, am interpreting these answers as a sign Hunga is unlikely to make the cut for 2016. Am a bit surprised as I would have placed her a more important figure in the POP/Etheria storyline than say a Vultak or Dylamug who are formal Horde members. There are clearly many many more characters who are wanted by long-time fans than 2016 slots will allow, and the competition is no doubt fierce, especially if variants of the core MOTU roster are likely to appear.

If Hunga doesn't make the 2016 cut, it will be very interesting to see who does and try to work out the prioritisation logic.

ALWAYS happy to hear about the possibility of new weapons packs! But confounded about the Hunga answer--hopefully they're just trying to throw us off!

I'm not sure if tooling is the problem. Hunga could use lots of shared parts and we've seen a lot of new tooling in 2014-15.
I never heard that rumor of a variant sub but I hope you are right.

I think we'll find out on Friday what they have planned and why. Maybe someone who is going to the con can specifically adress this at the panel? Or maybe we can ask a follow-up question in the next WTFWTK. I agree that the answer here is pretty confusing.
    Awesome sticker included!

Hunga's been my second most-wanted character for AGES. And if she's not shortlisted for 2016 but newer characters like Fang-Or, the Great Black Wizard and Gladiator are, I expect all hell will break loose.
This is my worry as well. If Matty is essentially relaunching the line by doing all the HEAVY HITTERS in their (inferior) Filmation looks then I wont be subbing. Im sure they will include fan demanded MIA figures as well (Filmation 1st timers like Hunga should be a PRIORITY over Filmation variants IMO), but that means Im picking and choosing for the first time since 2009! Hey if a Filmation redux works and subs go up thats GREAT! But I already have my "main cast". Which brings me to...

I would love a Leo Faker/Battle Armor Faker hybrid. I already have my BA Faker (Thanks TRU.Com) and he's one of my all time favs! However, if there's a chance to sneak a LEO FAKER into a Battle Armor Faker re-release to give others another chance... thats GREAT!

Very disappointing to hear that about Hunga. I'm guessing POP wise well get Vultak and General Sunder in 2016 which will leave Granita and Hunga missing from 2016. Hopefully they do all 4 eventually.
