    Answers to WTFWTK 2.138!

Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your Round 138 questions!

This round of questions were selected by bribri4u.
Thanks to that fan for their help!

    1. MegaGearMax: A number of fans don't want variants (Filmation designs, 200X designs or 2.0 versions of characters) to be included in a MOTU Classics subscription instead of previously unreleased characters. Are there any plans to keep variants and previously unreleased characters separate from each other in the future? Perhaps something like separate, smaller subscriptions. For example, one sub for variants that caters to newer fans and one sub for fresh characters which caters to fans who've been already been collecting MOTUC since 2008. Or will any upcoming subs still mix the two together in a large, annual sub with 12 figures, 4 quarterlies, etc?

This is a concern that has been noted and looked into, and we can say that 2016 will be a very focused line that offers product for all MOTU fans new and old.

    2. AdultCollector: Will the plummeting price of oil positively impact Mattel's ability to offer larger, more affordable MOTUC products like Snake Mountain, MOTUC Giants, etc, as well as cheaper MOTU mini-figure 2-packs?

We wish! There are many more factors that contribute to the cost of a product than just the price of oil. For example, if material costs go down, labor costs may still increase. It's something that is part of the business of manufacturing toys/products. We are always trying to find ways to do things more efficiently which hopefully means lower costs for the consumer, while keeping the same quality in product. If there is a way to get those great products at a lower costs, we will do it.

    3. Slave2Evil_Lyn: Is the new MOTUC team aware of how important and fan-demanded Crita from New Adventures is to a number of fans?

    Yes.

    4. bribri4u: We haven't seen one New Adventures Jetlag cartoon character yet in MOTUC, such as Crita and Master Sebrian. Mara isn't part of this group as she had a prototype figure. You have covered nearly all aspects of the MOTU and POP world but we need at least one Jetlag release before shop is closed up. Will there be at least one Jetlag cartoon character released in the line?

    Yes.

    5. Haephestus: Skeletor has Panthor, but neither of She-Ra's main villains (Catra and Hordak) have steeds. Since Mantisaur would require an entirely unique tool, there seems to be a greater chance of Clawdeen, Silver Storm, or even the Dark Riders' winged horses (the steeds of the skeletal warriors created by Shadow Weaver) being included in MOTUC as they would be relatively easy to produce based on the existing "cat" and "horse" sculpts. In fact, both of the suggested horses feature gray/silver hair on their bodies plus black manes and tails. The only major parts required to make both steeds come as one release would be different wings, different helmet/face-plates, and a removable saddle. This seems like a relatively simple way for Mattel to vastly increase the appeal of Silver Storm to a broader range of MOTUC fans.

That is definitely something we are aware of and if the demand for more "steeds" is there, we will make sure to offer the right ones.

Yeah. This could be Mara's cartoon look, if it isn't Crita.

Well this gives me a lot of hope for seeing Crita.

The steeds answer hearkens back to classic Toyguru, but that's fine. "If there is demand we're likely to see it."

I'm still not sure of what to make of the answer to the first question, but it sounds promising - especially since they have expressed not only awareness of the issue, but have looked into it as well. Catering to old and new fans is absolutely the right way to go. Let's hope they nailed the formula.

More than anything, these latest answers have been about keeping hope alive.

Sounds like Crita will happen in 2015 or 2016. I notice that no year is mentioned when they said they would do a non-Mara Jetlag character.

Another good round of answers. Very happy that Mattel has taken notice of Crita's popularity.

We also need some more steeds like Silver Storm, Night Stalker, Stridor, etc...

True, true...however, Brian DID specify MOTUC in his question, and ask if we'd see a Jetlag figure in the line, before closing up shop. MOTUC ends this year, so...to me, that says a Jetlag figure by the end of 2015, and I can't imagine that being anyone other than Crita.

Of course, I'm insanely biased because I REALLY want it to be her.

Certainly sounds like a 'yes' for Crita ... or perhaps some other unique character from the Jetlag family (I'm not at all familiar with the property) so there is some good news for the NA fans.

Agree with Poweron that the answers seem to be about 'keeping hope alive'. Expect the 'focused' 2016 line will spread the love amongst a smaller offering of product, I expect 1 figure per month only (to keep Mattycollector alive). What could that mean? 3 x MOTU-POP Filmation, 2 x 200x, 1 x vintage mini-comics, 1 x Karg/movie (hoping!), 2 x new mini-comics, 2 x NA, 1 x beast/vehicle/oversize ???

Given the rich diversity of characters of recent years, seems like way too few toys.

    The Jetlag answer seems promising.

I can only hope that Master Sebrian and Crita are on the horizon.

Master Sebrian is the only other 'specifically' Jetlag character I can imagine they'd bother with at this point, and even he is a stretch over Crita. There ARE other Jetlag characters I'd like to see, but there's just no way they'd beat Crita to the sculpting table.

Crita is the ONLY female Space Mutant. She's a must. Guess we'll have to see what happens.

Another great set of straight answers!

This is a concern that has been noted and looked into, and we can say that 2016 will be a very focused line that offers product for all MOTU fans new and old.
So what does this mean? What do new MOTU fans want? I'd say they want re-released Classics figures so theyr'e more affordable for new collectors.

Personally, I don't want her, and I sure as heck don't want to pay for 3 of her this year. I'm hoping she's 2016. That way the loud, but not necessarily that numerous, people who want her can get her, and I'm not stuck with 3 of a figure I don't care for - which will be instantly worth less on the secondary market than I paid for her.
Top want list: Green Goddess 2.0, Snake Mountain Man, Mask of Power Demons, Dree-Elle, Uncle Montork, Mini-Comics Beast-Man, 200X Beast-Man, Horde Wraiths, Skeleton Warriors, Battle-Ram, Snake Mountain, & a hardcover collection of all the mini-comics.

Mattel will give me the another variants of these same characters ! However, there is very little chance for your Kayo, or Kitrina or Vultak or any of your desired characters if you fail to support the 2.0's & variants in 2016.... or in the future !

    Another round of good answers.

I'm really liking the first answer about 2016 being more "focused" and for new and old fans - Would it be unrealistic to think that they would do away with the sub model for one year?? Like 2009 where everyone would log on for the 15th to grab that figure. Mattel need to reignite the excitement into MOTU again and sort of recreate that "chase" feeling we all had in the early days.

Also loving the Crita answer. I don't think she will be in 2015, but I can see her in 2016 definitely, especially if Mattel have re-jigged TG's lineup a bit.

Here's an idea for a new steed- Teela 2.0 with her steed, Charger, two-pack.

I'm slightly annoyed at the 'A number of fans don't want variants' comment as being representative. Personally I want filmation variants and also it gives new collectors chances at rarer figures such as Teela, Beast Man etc. Also in all seriousness would someone want niche character Silver Storm over Mantisaur/Stridor/Night Stalker etc ?

I wasn't suggesting that Silver Storm should be released before Mantisaur, etc. But, it seems more likely that Mattel will, at this stage, look to save costs by re-using existing bucks/tools if they decide to release any more steeds.

My main issue is that neither of She-ra's main villains has their steed. I'd be interested in seeing Mantisaur, but I just don't know how likely that would be. I was trying to suggest a way to release Silver Storm with additional parts to appeal to a broader fan base. The Dark Rider steeds are pretty awesome looking and I'd happily display Catra or Hordak on one of them.
