Well Skeletor did bring down Horde Prime,s battle cruiser in the christmas special and he was only aiming for the grappling claw . Horde prime chose to not make any sudden movements , he just hid in his ship trying to fire off a laser cannon until heman and She Ra tossed him back into space........and Hordak who takes orders from Horde Prime does nothing to interfere .

Hordak is way too trusting . He expects no one to question or backstab him . He owns most of etheria and commands millions of useless "yes man" robot troopers specialising in Twiggit combat and that only works if the Twiggits are running away first. They probably make Widjets cower in terror too .

Hordak might have taught skeletor magic but skeletor took it to a higher level and for some reason hordak chose to specialise in techno magic that allows him to transform parts or all of his body in to something that to me seem more inefficient . I can only assume it costs less energy so he could do it more often ? Hordak turns into a rocket to escape and he even complains he must get better control over his rocket form so he has not even mastered his favorite escape trick

Skeletor loves backstabbing and trickery . His magic is stronger and more varied . Yes if he chooses he can escape in a second and thats a huge advantage . Skeletor has multiple options , summon a portal or just outright vanish .
In bodybuilding the strongest person is the one with the biggest hands and best grip . Heman cannot keep "his grip" on Skeletor .

From a toy perspective Skeletor has i suppose 4 or 5 times more semi competent champions and attack vehicles .
In the older stories Beastman telepathically controls forest animals and Merman enjoys the same powers for ocean creatures . Both serve Mighty Skeletor .

Skeletor usually gets his hands dirty at the front line and Hordak prefers the backline . Skeletor carries both a goat skull Havok Staff and a purple sword he can engage at both long and short range
Hordak has a magic monkeyface crossbow . Great for long range i suppose .

Just look at their outfits . Hordak,s getup seems less suited for battle and more suited for royal occasions .
Skeletor actually has extra armour to protect his family jewels. Even Heman could take some notes . Dont even think of kicking Skeletor below his belt .

And now we can argue the one on one battle .....

I went with Hordak for the simple reason that if Skeletor could beat Hordak with certainty he would have already done it. He would then have claimed Hordak’s powers and used the Horde forces Hordak commanded to try and defeat first He-Man and then She-Ra. Once successful he would then have the whole of the Power of Grayskull/Universe for himself, be the ‘Evil Master of the Universe’ and be virtually unstoppable as he seeks to conquer the universe.

Nevertheless, I do think Skeletor is the more potent of the two with a destiny to defeat Hordak as stated in several MOTU canons. To put it simply, he will just keep trying and trying until eventually he is victorious or he is dead. Each battle improving his powers, combat skills and tactics/strategies, making him more potent the next time he is faced before running away when he realises he might lose in order to fight another day. Watch out He-Man/She-Ra!

I am voting Skeletor, though both are evenly matched and it really depend on who got the drop on the other. Skeletor was Hordak's pupil at one time, but went his own way. If Hordak were more powerful than Skeletor, he would have destroyed him at that point, but never did.

I am fully Team Hordak. I liked Skeletor as a kid but as a villain, i thought he was too silly. he reminded me of Caesar Romero's Joker too much. But Hordak was big bad and dark. Didn't joke as much. I love a jokey villain, but I love a serious, badass villain more.

I always thought Hordak looked more scary and yet the cartoons left me with an impression that Hordak is an old man whose powers are weakening over time .

Skeletor on the other hand seems to be at the height of his power.
