I heard the rumor last week, but I've been waiting for a little bit more confirmation before posting on it here. I have the Australian releases, but I'll buy these as well.

MASK was one of Jack Olesker's shows, wasn't it? Hope they manage to arrange some extras with him.

Finally! M.A.S.K. on DVD! I will definitely be picking up these bad boys once they come out. Another 80's cartoon in my collection and with Shout! I know the stuff will be quality. Now if they would only would re-release the vintage toys...

Yeah Eamon posted on his Facebook last week about it, did not want to say anything until it was announced by Shout. Looks like the MASK site did not really feel like waiting

    tvshowsondvd.com has updated the article:

UPDATE/CORRECTION (3/22): Following our original post above, one of our contacts at Shout! Factory has been in touch with us to make it clear that they, as a studio, are NOT announcing or confirming this item yet. It was also pointed out that they (or any other studio picking up the show) would not necessarily obtain the rights to "all 75 installments of M.A.S.K." (as we stated earlier) in the event that they DID obtain any DVD rights, as apparently some of the episode rights are held separately from others. The takeaway here is that nothing is officially official at this moment in time, so if you would prefer to file this info under the "gossip" column then maybe that's for the best. For now, anyway. Stay tuned.
I wonder if they mean that seaon 2 episodes have a different rights holder?

I doubt he would, he would not have posted on his Facebook if he did not get the OK first. I am thinking the confusion here lies with Shout. TVShowsonDVD knew of the set and checked to see if it was OK to say something, they got the OK but not really. Unless the negotiations are still going on (which I highly doubt) its just Shout is not ready to reveal fully just yet.

I am pretty sure Shout has all of MASK, with a property that niche it makes no sense to just aim for 1 volume or a certain segment of the series. Especially with Shout attempting to do a MOD program like Warner Bros.

What about the picture quality of the Madman releases?

I've heard Lace did a so-so job with the picture quality of the MASK UK DVDs.

Depends if any formal NDAs were involved here, but this looks like someone's badly jumped the gun.

Plus, Shout! have previously stated that there was another party involved in getting M.A.S.K. released in the US beyond the ones people know about, like DIC/Cookie Jar and Kenner/Hasbro, so this may play a part in the limited licensing of episodes, and/or any jitteriness about the release's plans being blown early.

Outside of Transformers, obviously due to the franchise's undeniably huge popularity, Shout! Factory's record at releasing other 1980s cartoons in their entirety has sometimes been spotty, as fans of C.O.P.S., Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, and Inspector Gadget will line up to tell you.

With those precedents, it's quite probable that in the tradition of those earlier releases, Shout! will only release M.A.S.K. episodes in volume sets rather than a complete series set, with there consequently being no guarantees that the entire series will be released at all, since this is how they started out their releases of the other DIC-originated series listed above.

Yeah but in some recent interviews Shout indicated they want to move away from that model using online only (similar to how Time Life worked and where WB is moving)

The problem with their volume releases in the past has been retail was needed to keep them going, that model is not only expensive it requires great success to continue (just ask BCI Guy).

Moving online and still only release partial sets (meaning not completing the series with release options) does nothing for them, the cost of licensing only part has next to no appeal for them. Now they may release volumes (like Season 1 Part 1) online but I would find it highly suspect to just have purchases the rights to a small portion.
