Yeah, I don't expect Luthor to have a big role yet, but he is going to be there regardless.

I'm still so sick of seeing the same enemies in Superman movies though. Why Zod? Why not Metallo? Intergang? Parasite? Toyman? Why does it have to be a villain that was already done in the movies before? I understand not using Brainiac or Darkseid, because they need to be built up, but come on.
Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

As the premiere date approaches, I don't want to see anymore spots or footage; however, that last TV commercial is freaking awesome and I cannot avoid being hyped bad. June 13th seems eternal to me today. Again, every trailer makes me feel emotioned as well

Probably they may have that approach, now I've heard this rumor:

It is going to be hinted that Lois & Lex would work for the government, being Lex the one asked to investigate this so called "Superman", and shall be the one making all the questions beyond the fascination. He is going to be protrayed as a Julius Cesar being overthroned, and that the role to be developed after a movie cameo, shall be carried out by Bradley Cooper. Again, it is just a rumor

I'm eager to see Brainiac in a Superman movie! I'd love to see the skull tentacled space ship emerging from dark cloudy skies with out of this world menacing sounds and Supes just punchig it with bare knuckles!
I think that Darkseid would be used in a possible Justice League movie.

I'm thrilled there is no Luthor yet, but Zod doesn't bother me at all. I like that the first villain is also Kryptonian because it gives us more of a window into Krypton.

Also, Zod is probably the least used Superman villain outside of the comics. He never appeared in any of the DCAU shows (I have no idea if he appeared in Smallville), so I don;t mind "reusing" a villain from 33 years ago.

He was in STAS, he was just under the name Joxer for some reason.

Zod did appear on Smallville, as a shadowy-possess-y type working with Brainiac in Season - 5(?), and then as the big bad of Season 9, played by Callum Blue.

I very, very much want to see Brainiac on the big screen, but he's someone they could save for a sequel, and he's so adaptable there are plenty of ways to do him justice. I was a little underwhelmed initially when they said Zod would be the villain in this movie - he's never been a character I'm all that crazy about - but he's a logical choice. I do agree though, that if this movie is a success and leads to sequels, I want to see other villains on-screen that haven't been there before. I assume Lex will show up eventually, but Brainiac deserves his shot as well. So does Bizarro, for that matter.

(Every time I acknowledge to myself that Superman III and Superman IV exist, I mourn a little bit for what could have been with Brainiac and Bizarro, respectively.)

EDIT: Dr. Kain's mainly right- Jax-Ur is another character from the comics who was a Kryptonian Phantom Zone prisoner, and S:TAS combined him with Zod..the character is pretty much Zod, actually, and I have never heard why they didn't just call him that.

Zod is a good villain to use in his origin movie because it ties back to his home and they can fight and show of their powers on the big screen.

I used to hate that these movies even existed until I saw the Superman Redeemed fan edit.

Because Hollywood writers have no originality anymore. Probably why Snyder decided to re-visit Zod for his take on Superman and do it his way.

I understand not using Brainiac or Darkseid, because they need to be built up, but come on.
Why? Why do they have to be built up? How many movies will it take to 'build up' either of these villains? Hopefully, when Darkseid does finally make his big screen appearance, he'll look closer to how Jack Kirby envisioned him instead of looking weird looking like Thanos did in Avengers.

I remember a time in film making when the writing team wrote a movie without having to make the film build up for an entire franchise. Darkseid doesn't need to be hinted at for six films before appearing, really.

And that is what worries me. Snyder has proven that, unless he is doing a direct adaptation, he cannot make a movie for ****. Suckerpunch was one of the worst movies that came out in the last several years and that was all him. He did a decent job with 300 (however, the more I watch it, the less I like it), while he did excellent with Watchmen.

And it is nice to know you know exactly how Thanos looked like in Avengers given we never actually saw a close up show of his entire body.

I think Snyder has it within himself to make an unqualifiedly good movie if he simply starts from a good script and has someone above him to rein in some of his indulgences. I don't think it's unreasonable to hope that this movie might tick those two boxes.

I heard a rumour about the new Superman movie which concerns me greatly. This is a MASSIVE spoiler if it's true, so read at your own risk and disappointment.

Krypton never explodes, Kal-El is the ONLY non-genetically engineered Kryptonian, Zod wants him to return to Krypton.

    http://io9.com/the-man-of-steel-rumo...or-t-487577190

Russel Crowe made a Twitter comment to either debunk the rumour or to try and conceal the surprise about the new direction:

"ahem...as I was saying...my name is Jor El, of Krypton, as my planet dies I send 2 you my son, Kal. So he may live. He will arrive June 14"
So, yeah...I hope Mr. Crowe isn't lying.

Yeah, the plot to Suckerpunch did sound pretty stupid. Made me not watch the movie.

Saw his face. I didn't care for the appearance. The rest of the movie rocked.

Thanos looked fine to me, I did not see anything that was so off model from his past depictions. If you want to complain about a horrible portrayal of a character I give you the wind and clouds of Galactus from the 2nd FF4 movie

I do not mind Zod in this one, since its a reboot and all it makes sense to have Zod be there. But I would like to see either Braniac or Metallo in a future movie, Braniac especially. They should farm STAS for stories if they do not want to consult the comics, either would be better than the same old Lex Luthor stories.

Personally I think they should save Luthor and build him up over a number of movies so when he does strike its of an epic nature ala how he was at the core of several big JL arcs in the DCAU

I am somewhat reticent about Zod and Faora being the antagonists in the first Superman film for the same reason I think it was a mistake to introduce the Green Lantern Corps. in the first Green Lantern film; it dilutes the distinctiveness of the protagonist.

The first film in a series introduces the protagonist to the audience and it is his distinctiveness that makes him the focus of and the entry point to the story.

Why should the audience root for Hal Jordan when there are thousands of Green Lanterns who are more skilled and experienced than he? What makes Kal-El special when there are other Supermen just as powerful as he in the galaxy?

This sort of thing would be fine in a second film which introduces new information about the character to the audience and causes them to question their original assumptions because they are already invested in the character. Do it in the first film, and the audience does not care what happens to the main character.

From what I have seen, I am hopeful that Man of Steel will not be affected by this.

HAH!!! Galactus in FF 2 was indeed horrible. The shadow of Galactus gave us the implied idea that he was in there under the clouds, but still lame.

Thanos just looked a bit off to me. I think it was the eyes and the rendering. Looked a bit fake. I mean, the Hulk was practically spot on and had realism in all of his appearances in Avengers but Thanos' two second cameo looked like it was thrown together at the last minute.

UGH! I don't see why any Superman villain has to be built up for a movie. The way I see it, the freaking 'build up' occurs in the same film. Spreading a build up across a ton of movies can be downright annoying. Case in point, even though Avengers ruled and all of the movies that came before it pretty much were the top of their game, the build up got annoying. The first Iron Man came out in 2008 and the Avengers came out in 2012. About four and a half years of a very long wait!

I dunno, from what we saw he looked pretty good to me. My bigger concern is that from what I've heard he'll actually be played by an actor and not some CGI mock up like Hulk.

Now I'm no encyclopedia on the ins and outs of Thanos, but I always thought that he was pretty big in stature and was some thing would need to be CG'd like Hulk to work on film, but I could be wrong.

Any one care to shed any light?

I've tried to avoid as many spoilers as possible. I am really interested to see how they swing the 'how he can fly' thing. The swirling ice and rock in the trailer, and an interview I read about it being raw and he has to work to do it really has me wondering.

I ordered a new Superman tank top to wear to the theater so I can show off my Superman tattoo.

the latest tv spot has me geeked out! There was a small window in my childhood where i REALLY liked superman, honestly I replaced him with Shazam/captain marvel very quickly - I always loved the lightning strike transformation, which is a reason I accepted filmation's MOTU quickly even though the brand grabbed me when it was just toys and minis.)

but these trailers and spots make me feel like that kid who loved superman again. as i said before they are doing a good job showing me WHY Superman is such an icon. that's what they said they wanted to do and yes the companies that cut trailers job is to make you want to see the movie, but so far what i've seen they are doing it!
