    Smallville - The Finale (Spoilers)

I remember back when I heard that there was going to be a series about Superman as a young Clark Kent. No Tights, No Flights.

My first initial reaction? This couldn't possibly work. Now, ten years later? It's a mixed bag.

This series would have been so much stronger if they had kept it far shorter. We wouldn't have had filler material like Lana the Witch, or Lana Marrying Lex. Or the always fun drinking game of Clark almost coming out to Lana and then recanting at the last possible second with doughy eyes of tears...

Then again, we also got strong stories like Christopher Reeve being a mentor to Clark, and filling him in on some of his back story. We got a Lex we've never seen before....Part friend to Clark, Some good, Some Evil. We've got who, at the beginning, was what Lex Luthor would turn out to be....in the form of Lyonel.

This series was a love hate relationship for me...and I never thought it would last ten years....but now I'm getting worried that they won't be able to tie everything up in three episodes, and that we'll never see Superman himself on the small screen...

thoughts on the series and opinions on the finale, GO!

As a long time Superman fan I was very curious about Smallville. I was won over to this Clark Kent when he said that he didn't want to be a "total loser" because he couldn't play on the football(for obvious reasons!). When he stuck his arm in that shredder and said, "I'd give anything to be normal" that was the second winning point with me. This Clark Kent was a realistic teenager, emotionally speaking. In fact, this show made me glad my teenage years were well behind me! As for Lex, it harkened back to PRE-CRISIS DC when Superboy and teenage Lex Luthor were friends. This series also made Lex a fairly tragic character to me.

One thing that did concern me was that in the beginning Clark was fighting Kryptonite mutated teenagers. I said, "Oh, this nice, but if it's all this show is plus teenage angst, it's not going to last long." The episode Zero was the turning point for me as Lex was the center of the episode.

When Lana divorced Lex, and she became part of Clark's life, I felt like the show had gone backward. I was a very happy camper when she was finally gone.

I liked how Oliver Queen became a big part of Smallville. No offense, but I needed a break from Batman and I was glad he never showed up on the series.

All in all, it's been an enjoyable show and I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing Tom Welling in the costume. I just wish Tom's costume was more like Christopher Reeve's and NOT Brandon Routh's. Reeve's costume was big, bold and in your face. Routh's was very subdued to me. I hated that small "S" shield.

Like Mr. Roboto, I wasn't thrilled with the first season of Smallville. I've never been much of a Super-Man fan, but when I tuned in, the eps all felt too similar.

Years passed, and in season 7, a friend told met that Supergirl was going to be a regular character.

I decided to tune in again and quickly fell in love with Laura Vandervoort in Season 7. I've been a loyal fan ever since.

Personally, I'm glad Lana is gone from the series. Although she finally grew on me, I hated her wimpy character and how head-over-heals Clark was for her. I much, MUCH prefer Lois.

This 10th year has been such a milestone. I've never been a fan of a show that lasted this long. I'm going to miss Clark and the gang.

While there were some weak spots, that's the same with any series. I can honestly say that I love this show, and I'm going to miss it.

IMO, Smallville will be remembered for making Super-Man more human and for having the hottest women on TV. Lois, Kara & Chloe are gorgeous!
    RIP Andy Conrad.

Thanks for the "heads up". I haven't seen an episode in a very long time...WB era?? I remember watching the first episodes and wondering why Lois Lane was now called Lana Lang! Yeah, it takes me a while. I was actually attached to Kreuk's character but the writers didn't seem to know what to do with her once the *real* Lois showed up. That was when I stopped watching. I loved Michael Rosenbaum and thought Allison Mack was annoying...still do. I suppose I'm in the minority though.

At least Welling will have more time on his hands to pursue other avenues.

Lana has been in the DC universe since the 50's. She was also in Superman 3, played by Smallville mom Annette O'Toole.

And you can tell how often I delve into the Superman saga. So while the rest of the world knew Lana's place in the story, I was wondering why they changed Lois Lane's name. As I said, it takes me a while to catch up.

All signs are pointing to yes. It's even been shown. Matter of fact, here is a shot from the next to the last episode...I don't THINK anyone can cry spoiler, I mean it's nothing we never seen before.

is darkseid still going to show up? i remember there being a few hints regarding his appearance at the beginning of the season, but haven't noticed anything in months. at the pace this show moves, it's going to feel like it was crammed in at the last second.

I think last we saw of him he was appearing before Lionel. He's still around and is sure to be involved in the finale even if he never really appears. The non-animation TV budget doesn't do him any favors. As long as they don't end on a whimper like the Doomsday arc!

Hopefully they've learned their lesson - I thought the Clark/Zod ending was OK last season.

I suspect that by now, if Darkseid were going to actually be a physical person, they would have announced the actor playing him. So my suspicion is he'll either remain a special effect (last seen freaking Lionel out), or possess someone.

So is Chloe gone for good, or is she coming back for the ending, does anyone know? I know we'll see Kara, Zod and Jonathan again before the end. And I know they're keeping the ending under wraps, but I'd really love to see Michael McKean back even for one scene near the end to establish Perry's installment as editor of the Planet.

It's my assumption that Tess and Lionel will not be surviving the finale, which is a pity as I like them both, but they have three episodes left to wrap up ten years' worth of story, and I can't see those two working in Superman's world. (They both know too much, for one thing.)

    Spoilers:

Going to like this weeks episode, Zod is back. Going to hate next weeks episode as Lois is getting Clarks powers for a day from Jor-El, ugh.

In the finale so far Martha, Chloe and Lex

will be in it. Along with many series regulars from the past according to kryptonsites spoiler area:

    http://www.KryptonSite.com

ZOD (CALLUM BLUE) RETURNS IN JUSTIN HARTLEY’S DIRECTORIAL DEBUT EPISODE — Tess (Cassidy Freeman) learns that General Slade was found unconscious on a street corner, proof that someone has gained access to the Phantom Zone’s escape portal and sent him back. Clark (Tom Welling) decides to return to the exiled land to make sure other phantoms are not fleeing and is furious when Oliver (Justin Hartley) tricks Clark into taking him along. With Clark’s powers gone, the two are immediately captured by the Zoners who take them to their new leader, Zod (Callum Blue), who is thirsting for revenge on Clark for banishing him to this Kryptonian jail. Meanwhile, Lois (Erica Durance) learns Clark trusted Tess with a secret, but didn’t tell Lois. Posted on KryptonSite. Justin Hartley directed with story by John Chisholm (#3X6021).

UPDATED 4/6/11: The new TV Guide article (hitting newsstands April 7) reveals that this episode will involve Zod and also Oliver's conflict with "the darkness."

UPDATED 4/5/11: Callum Blue has since been confirmed.

UPDATED 3/29/11: No one's confirming anything but we're pretty sure this is the episode that brings back Callum Blue as Zod.

UPDATED 3/5/11: Justin Hartley's Oliver returns in this episode. We're assuming his wife stays in Star City, as Chloe isn't back.

UPDATED 2/3/11: Title Posted. Please do not re-post this on other websites without a LINK to the title's source (KryptonSite.com). Also, please do not repost these on spoiler sites immediately after they're posted here... thanks.
    Episode #10-20: "Prophecy"

    May 6, 2011

smallville costume fortressWritten By: Bryan Q. Miller & Anne Cofell Saunders
    Directed By: Michael Rohl
Guest Stars: Laura Vandervoort (Kara), Chris Gauthier (Toyman), Terence Stamp (Voice of Jor-El)

The CW's Official Description (Posted 4/14/11): JOR-EL GIVES LOIS SUPER POWERS; KARA RETURNS — Clark (Tom Welling) takes Lois (Erica Durance) to the Fortress to get Jor-El’s (voiced by Terrance Stamp) blessing for their marriage. Jor-El bestows a unique wedding gift on the couple – he gives Lois Clark’s super powers so she can see what it’s like to be him for a day. Unfortunately, the Toyman (guest star Chris Gautheir) has returned to Metropolis, so Lois must go up against the notorious villain instead of Clark. Meanwhile, Oliver (Justin Hartley) searches for the Bow of Orion, which he believes will remove the Omega symbol from his skull, and runs into Kara (guest star Laura Vandervoort), who is also on a mission to stop Darkseid. Mike Rohl directed written by Bryan Q. Miller & Anne Cofell Saunders (#3X6019).

UPDATED 4/5/11: From Ausiello: Jor-El is heard again (by Terrence Stamp) but is not seen physically, but he does give Lois an early wedding present: Clark's powers for a day.

UPDATED 3/12/11: An interview with TheStar.com says Laura is in the "penultimate episode" (that would be "Prophecy") and it seems to hint that wherever she's been, she'll be found. Hmm...

UPDATED 2/3/11: Title Posted. Please do not re-post this on other websites without a LINK to the title's source (KryptonSite.com).
    Episode #10-21 & #10-22: "Finale" (Parts 1 and 2)

    May 13, 2011

clois clark lois weddingWritten By: Al Septien & Turi Meyer (Part 1), Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson (Part 2)
Directed By: Kevin Fair (Part 1), Greg Beeman (Part 2)
Guest Stars: Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), Annette O'Toole (Martha Kent), Allison Mack (Chloe), John Schneider (Jonathan Kent), John Glover (Lionel Luthor)

UPDATED 4/25/11: TV Guide has given us visual confirmation that the finale will include a Clark & Lois wedding. "It's a very, very long walk down that aisle," Kelly Souders told TV Guide's Rich Sands. "There are some good moments, some heart-wrenching moments and some surprising moments at their wedding."
    - Oliver will be best man and Chloe will be the matron of honor."
    - Will they actually go through with this whole wedding thing? "I think fans will be pleased with how things turn out," Souders told TV Guide, "but it's never what you expect. I will just say that there are moments directly before and after this photo that, even seeing the footage for the 50th time, I still get a little teary."
    - Matt Mitovich at TVLine reveals that Martha and, somehow, Jonathan are guests at the wedding - which we probably could have seen in the promo trailer. He also notes that even though both John Glover and Michael Rosenbaum are in the finale, they do not share scenes together. Drats! I was hoping Lex would kill Lionel (again).

The CW's Official Description (Posted 4/21/11): BE THERE AS SMALLVILLE WRAPS UP CLARK KENT’S TEN-YEAR JOURNEY IN AN EPIC TWO-HOUR SERIES FINALE — The story of Clark Kent (Tom Welling) culminates in this epic two-hour series finale as Clark takes the last step to becoming the Man of Steel. With surprise guest appearances, nods to the first few seasons of the series and Michael Rosenbaum’s return as Lex Luthor, this final episode wraps up a decade-long story following one’s man’s journey to becoming the world’s greatest superhero. Erica Durance, Allison Mack, Justin Hartley, Cassidy Freeman, John Glover, Annette O’Toole and John Schneider also star. Kevin Fair directed “Finale Part 1,” which was written by Al Septien & Turi Meyer (#3X6022) and Greg Beeman directed “Finale Part 2,” written by Brian Peterson & Kelly Souders (#3X6021).

UPDATED 4/15/11: Kelly Souders' KryptonSite interview makes mention of a Lionel return for the finale. Perhaps this will have some tie to Darkseid's appearance.

UPDATED 4/6/11: Allison Mack has told TV Guide she will be in BOTH parts of the 2-part finale, and says "I think she ends in a very healthy and levelheaded way." There is "some reference" to Chloe's married life with Oliver.

UPDATED 3/25/11: Tweets from extras are pointing toward a wedding in Part 1.

UPDATED 3/18/11: Michael McKean has tweeted that his wife is indeed in Vancouver filming Smallville. He's being very coy about the possibilities of himself appearing in the finale.
    - One definite no-show for the finale: Kristin Kreuk has confirmed that she is not returning for Smallville's final episodes.
    - The show has already wrapped filming in several major sets and is due to be finished entirely next week.

UPDATED 3/9/11: More finale appearances: TVLine first reported and it has been confirmed in a podcast that Allison Mack will be making an appearance as Chloe Sullivan. Additionally, John Schneider has revealed that he, too, has a role in the series' final episode. And again, those aren't the only people making their returns.

UPDATED 3/4/11: Annette O'Toole has tweeted that she is headed someplace that starts with a V next week. The first half of the series finale starts shooting then. Sounds like our finale will have a Martha Kent - and our spies tell us that she and Michael Rosenbaum aren't the only former series regulars returning.

UPDATED 2/11/11: Michael Rosenbaum will be back for the series finale!

UPDATED 2/7/11: The CW has announced that Smallville will conclude with a two-hour series finale on May 13, 2011.
    - KryptonSite has learned that the series' 217th and 218th episodes which make up the two-hour finale went under the production names "Finale, Part 1" and "Finale, Part 2"... which means that last Smallville title is not "Superman," not "Metropolis," but.... "Finale." It's sure to be a good one!

UPDATED 1/12/11: TVLine's Michael Ausiello says that producers are "cautiously optimistic" that Lex will be back, but that Kristin Kreuk (Lana) will definitely not be returning.

UPDATED 12/23/10: So, in only a few months we'll be hitting the end. So far, very little is known about how the series will wrap up; if Darkseid's story ends here, if Lex is returning, any of it... it's all a mystery. Hopefully we'll get some news on a Rosenbaum return. It's probably safe to say, though, that at least one departed early-seasons cast member will be present for the show's finale.

I've stuck with Smallville through the good eps and the bad.
I hope that the last episode will be memorable.
Superman needs to have something good.

One think that doesnt make sense to me about the episode with Zod. When did Clark send him to the Phantom Zone? Unless this is supposed to be the original Zod that possessed Lex in season 5, and not the clone Zod from season 9. But haveing Callum Blue portray that version of Zod would be strange since the older Zod was shown using distorted footage of Terrance Stamp from Superman 2. But then again, the replaced Stamp as Fortress Jor-El for a few episodes with Jullian Sands, who portrayed the Clone Jor-El.

I was being sarcastic. Of course the fans always notice this stuff. It just seems like the network execs never quite figure this out. do those guys even *watch* their own shows?

Clark sent the Zod clone played by Callum Blue to the Phantom Zone at the end of Season 9.

That is correct. Clark sent all the Kandorians to another planet where they could restart the Kryptonian race. Zod had a blue kryptonite dagger to take his powers away temporarily so he would not be taken. The reason Clark was spare is because Zod stabbed Clark with the dagger, causing Clark to lose his powers, fall from the roof, thus moving the dagger too far away from Zod for it to affect his powers, so Zod was pulled into the wormhole as well.

Clark was trying to save the Kandorians, and would never have just sent them to the Phantom Zone where their bodies would eventually fade leaving them phantoms. My guess is this is going to be the real Zod, that was sent to the Phantom Zone by Jor-El. In the preview, at least he has the beard lie Superman 2 Zod.

I would rather have him appear as he has been then to see him fully realized and be a massive disappointment (ala Doomsday). Still waiting to see his role in all of this since

Looks like a cool set but I am going to pass, their bs answer about why it can't be on Blu-Ray when half the series was mastered in HD (Season 5 on is entirely in HD, Season 5 was even released in HD-DVD) just turned me off. Just wait 1-2 years I bet we see a Blu-Ray Smallville complete series

The should have gave us a couple episodes of Supe's flying around. These last few episodes have not been good, wasted fill ins, when I would had rather saw him flying around then what they have put up

I'd definitely want to own it, but not at $340. Maybe someday if it drops below $200, I'll consider it. (I don't buy any season sets of any show for more than $20 each.)

Is it just me, or is the CW having a counting problem? I keep seeing blurbs this week for "only three episodes until the finale". Shouldn't it be only two, since we're counting until the finale, not the finale itself?

I missed last night's episode. Was Zod supposed to be the "season 9, Kandorian Clone" Zod, or the "Season 5, Dark Thursday, Phantom who possessed Lex" Zod?
