    Favorite Rocky Movie?

Of the 6, which is your favorite? I always had a soft spot for part 2.

I had to go with Rocky IV because it's the only one I remember.

1, 2, and 4 were my favorites for a long time, with 4 edging the others out, but Rocky Balboa is my absolute favorite now. A wonderful story and an absolutely perfect send-off for the franchise. I really can't see it having ended in a better way.

First, you're hearing from a HUGE Rocky fan.

No question but that (imho) ROCKY 3 is the best. There was an amazing four-second shot in the first film -- ROCKY -- that foretold Apollo Creed ending up being a good guy. Apollo batters Rock in the later rounds and Balboa goes down. The fight is over. But Rocky slowly gets to his feet. There's a shot when Apollo turns and looks down at Rocky. Incredulous, but in awe and compassion -- all his strutting peacock attitude gone -- Apollo's shoulders slump and his expression says "Stay down, man. You're a fellow warrior, but I don't want to hurt you any more than I already have." In that brief shot Carl Weathers does an amazing bit of acting, telling us about the character (as in true essence) of this cardboard person who up until now had been a mere stereotypical rendering of bravado. In that moment Apollo Creed becomes real and we feel the respect he has for Rocky. In this he is not just some self-absorbed boxer. In this, he is a sportsman.

All of this is at last fully realized and paid off in ROCKY 3 when Apollo decides to manage Rocky in his fight against Clubber Lang. We learn that, truly, when we come together in a noble pursuit we can be more than the sum of our separate parts. And speaking of cardboard characters, even Mr. T does an incredible job of raising a cardboard character to an art form. And can there be a better scene in a sports film -- with the possible exception of Rudy tackling the quarterback in RUDY -- than Rocky leading the kids up the stairs?

Tell me one single scene in that film that doesn't work.

    ROCK-Y! ROCK-Y! ROCK-Y!

And as an addendum, Stallone doing ROCKY BALBOA is a tribute to this man's love of the franchise and his desire to put it to bed properly and with the respect it was due. He did not need the money. And yeah, he made a bundle. But it was done out of love. Well done, Sly.

Rocky 4 by far was the best. The fight w/awesome,not to mention Dolph was brutal, the death of Apollo, and the memorial montage while Rocks driving round in the Lambo to "No easy way out" is one of my favorite parts in all the movies.

For a long time, I've liked Rocky II the most.
It was the film that had him actually win, which I liked.

But Rocky IV has recently become my favourite, due to the pace of the movie, training montages and music.

Rocky IV is my fav. It summed up rhe theme of the 80's for the U.S. Us versus them. Also Dolph was a good bad guy.

I can't believe that I was the first person to list Rocky as their favorite of the series.

I never thought that would happen!

Rocky IV is probably my favorite, but it has been a long time since I've watched most of them. The only one I dislike is Rocky V.

C'mon, thats like one of the most iconic movie lines, ever!
Plus, I still have a bunch of the promo items from WAAAY back in the day when Churchs Chicken was promoting the movie - got the cups and a very worn but still intact shirt of the two boxing gloves meeting head on

The soundtrack is a bonus too!

Without a doubt, Rocky Balboa... it was amazing.
"I wouldn't be surprised if this movie has Adam as a skinny nerd from Earth battling another skinny nerd-hacker from Earth that used an alias of Keldor. They then enter Tron-style to a cyber world called Eternia, where they control muscle-bound avatars to battle (called He-Man and Skeletor). And these same avatars come to life and continue to battle in present-day Earth." - VZX

Rocky IV was the first movie of the franchise I saw, but I have to go with the original. People forget how good Stallone was in that movie as well as his great script. Rocky Balboa is a close second. Not only did Stallone surprise me that it actually is possible to "go home again"(he did the same thing with Rambo), it was a great capper to the series.
