New Matty Facebook Note: Mattycollector Wall Stands and updates on MOTUC production

    Toy Fans,

Hey everyone! We’re deep into prep on SDCC, among many other great projects, but I wanted to pop in and give a quick update on many of the requests and suggestions we’ve had online and at recent cons.

We’ve always said we are committed to putting out the best product possible and as many customers know, we are often challenged by things like rising materials and labor costs, as well as standardized safety and logistical regulations that govern the toy industry and all Mattel products. That being said, wanted to provide the most up-to-date info on a few ongoing challenges that design has really stepped up to, in order to continue improving and evolving our offerings. One thing to keep in mind is that changes in the toy industry are not as overnight as other mediums like TV or comics. It can take 12-24 months to go from “suggestion” to product. So please, as always, bear with us. We are committed to continuing to improve our toys, but we must do so within the framework of the toy industry and the logistics and regulations that come with that. All of this means change does take some time.

1: We’ve looked into some of the regulations and safety issues regarding pop joints used on figures like Modulok and Extendar and it looks like hopefully when and if we get to the next figure to use this feature (like Multi-bot, for example) that we’ll be able to add in a mid-waist pop joint to separate the torso from the crotch section. Nothing in stone yet and we are not actively working on this figure yet, but we have been investigating what can be done once we get to him to try and get this feature included.

2: We are constantly looking into way of improving the female lower torso/crotch piece to get closer to a trim fit on the tunic (like Marlena had), as well as ensure the legs are positioned well using parts like Octavia had. The update is we have come up with some new ideas to get closer to this look fans are asking for (while still following safety and logistic guidelines that regulate this stuff!) and you will start to see this on figures in Q2 of 2015 (assuming we get to a 2015 line, which of course we hope we can!). We know this is still awhile off, but it takes times to develop new parts and procedures within the regulations and logistics of the toy industry. Hopefully updates are coming, but the soonest you will see this type of update to females is Q2 of next year.

3: We have also extensively looked into the bulky nature of some of the armor and do have a few ideas on how to get this to snap on tighter as well. But in the same vein as the previous two points, this does take time and the earliest you will see changes to the way armor snaps on is also early 2015.

4: Many fans have asked about a more robotic/animated looking head for Etheria Invasion Hordak (available first at SDCC this year!). We are of course open to something like this, but as noted above, it takes 12-24 months to go from “request” to seeing something potentially happen. So to manage expectations, the earliest you might see something like this is Q1 2016.

I know these aren’t overnight fixes, but I do want fans to know we are committed to continuing to explore all options that are available to us. We couldn’t be more excited for the rest of 2014 and if you like 2014, you will just love our 2015 line. More info about 2015 sub sign-ups will be posted in the next few weeks as we start the road to SDCC and Mattypalooza. We can’t wait to show you our latest offerings. We couldn’t be more proud and always thank you, the loyal fan and MOTU customer, for supporting this line. We could not make it happen without you!

And finally, check out the upcoming Wall mounted display stands from Mattycollector.com! These will be out in July and are reconfigurable for 3 ¾”, 6” and 12” figures. You get two in a pack with a total of 6 reconfigurable bases and two background graphics (yellow burst and green brick). They go on sale in July! Price is $25.00 for the set. Yet another cool way to display your toys as we all slowly run out of desk space!

    Scott “Toy Guru” Neitlich

So they aren't actively working on Multi-Bot but "vintage will be done in 2015", and a new HEAD can't be done within 12 months.

These contradictions are just absurd at this point.
Sadly, you can't divorce emotion from a toyline built on nostalgia.

Dude...seriously,If Multi-Bot isn't at SDCC they might as well kiss 2015 goodbye.

uhm 25$ for two cardboard pieces and few plastic parts? Doesn't look too sturdy either, plus why must they keep using the brick design.

I guess Pixel Dan will tell how useful are they, but so far they haven't been able to produce anything that actually helps your figures to stand.

Why in the hell can't they just make a stadium type stand like PixelDan recommended.I mean I would be willing to pay more for something like that than this cheap **** they keep putting out.I can already see that they want be moving many of these cheap pieces of garbage.disgusted...simply disgusted.

I will wait until December 2015 if they get Multi-bot right.

It may seem like a lot to ask, but can we reserve the immediate hate until we don't see these things? Two of the three were previously described as not possible, and they are still looking into it apparently. At least the issues weren't forgotten. I think that's pretty awesome.

Toyguru, fixed pelvis by Q2 2015? I patiently wait for Angella and Mermista

I have hopes for Multi-Bot! I suspect they the "if" is just a precautionary thing.

I can't help but notice Scott omitted mentioning NA Skeletor's reversed shoulders. How many years ago were we assured that wouldn't happen again? I hope these new changes Scott is promising turn out better than the shoulder issue.

These wall stands looks cheaper than the sculped Grayskull stackable stands...
    15$ VS 25$!!!

The giant stone pattern doesn´t match with the one used in the cards from the blisters much smaller.

The stands looks worse each round.

Maybe the aren't working on multi-bot because the prototype isn't finished yet, how about we wait till sdcc before people start losing it unnecessarily.

So it's not OK to immediately notice that a new, presumably fully-tooled figure like Multi-Bot isn't being worked on as of today-June 2nd-and would somehow ALSO presumably be a part of a theoretical "vintage wrap-up" 2015 lineup, but a head can't be done in less than a year? Oh, wait-including "managed expectations"- that puts it at a minimum of 15 months. Please note-I'm not saying Multi-Bot won't happen for 2015. I am relatively sure it will. I am simply calling shenanigans on a head taking 15 months.

I'm not "immediately hating". I am questioning how time flows in the Mattel building.

This is begging for something like a Back to the Future reference.

As far as the Hordak head request vs them not actively working on Multi-Bot, I'm assuming part of this has to do with a request going to completion, vs a figure already slotted for a SKU but not too far into production. I'd say that's a big time difference.

Also, actively can also mean they were working on Multi-Bot, but stalled him to do something else that was more important for a more immediate need.

There's multiple ways to look at it. I understand "once bitten twice shy" in regards to some MOTUC related issues, but I recommend we not immediately assume the worst in every instance.

This note is one of the best so far.

It sounds very well thought through and honest, at least to me.

And if they could find a way to make Multi-Bots torso be separated from his crotch, they could include an improved Modulok torso and crotch with him since Modulok is Multi-Bots inventor. And with that there would be even more ways to transform him
And if so i think we all can agree to wait a little longer for all that.

The female crotch being constantly worked on sounds good to me, now hopefully this means characters like Mara, Mermista, Huntara, Granita or Angella who would need a tight fight are released later on and characters like Perfuma, Spinnerella, Veena, Crita or Peekablue who wear skirts are the next ones to be released.

    Only time will tell

If that is the case then why doesn't Scott just not mention it at all.I have said this more times than I can count but I really wish Scott wouldn't say anything at all, don't answer questions ,don't make videos, just put out what your going to put out and if we buy it,we buy it and if we don't, we don't.

I would hope you wouldn't now either, considering all the awesome figures we've gotten and continue to get.

I understand being cautious. There have obviously been some problems in MOTUC. But it's really extreme to just assume the worst about everything when MOTUC has had a LOT of homeruns and continues to have them.

It's great to see that they are finally addressing issues that so many of us are concerned about. It's sad that it is happening this late in the line. These should have been resolved a few years ago. I am glad that there are no excuses this time, and it gives me hope that they are finally listening and trying their best to make improvements.

Can't wait to see what's in store for 2015!!

Negativity and griping about TG and his approach aside, I really and truly enjoyed this update. It addressed all of the major recent concerns and even provided details as to the soonest we can expect to see changes. A sincere thanks Scott!

Not sure how I feel about these stands yet, but they could be great. I'll reserve judgement for when I see them more clearly.

At $40 a figure, it would be nice if they had a "home run" rate (not "I like this vs. I don't like this", I'm talking about releases that are free of quality issues, widely unpopular "design choices", etc.) closer to 100%.

As the line gets closer and closer to the end, the number figures that I "gotta have" goes down. It gets tougher and tougher to look past the things that would have been completely overlooked in the past. Early on, loose ankles didn't really bother me-but now my response is "Really? Still with the weak ankles??"

There is an expression I heard a while back from a radio show host: "Is the juice worth the squeeze?". It's been worth the squeeze for coming up on six years, but has gradually gotten less and less so. Still enough to subscribe, yes. For now.

That's why I find myself increasingly trying to engage people (even though it comes off as me just being argumentative), hoping they will remind me of something other than "but the figures are so awesome!" or "we're co close!" I'm not a completest. I still enjoy most of the figures (or find something to enjoy about them), but I tire of hearing the same old arguments about why people "shouldn't be so hard on Mattel and TG" or hearing complaining about complaining. As the line graphs of "worth the squeeze" and "unbelievable bulljive that I just won't look past anymore" start inching closer and closer, I feel that it should be the responsibility of the guys doing the selling to convince ME to buy their product, not me convincing THEM to make it.

I really hope the juice remains worth the squeeze for another year.

It's kind of sad that this is how I read this:

We can't fix the female piece until we have the majority of core female characters in the line already released. So in Quarter 2 of 2015, we may have a couple that will be done correctly.

We can't give you a Filmation Hordak until 2016, even though we're trying to wrap up the line in 2015.

And since we are going to fix these problems in the far future when the line wraps up, buy a sub for next year!

I like that the issues have been addressed, but with almost all of the main core characters released...it's pretty much too little too late.
The Multi-Bot news is good news though and it sounds like the armor issue will be fixed early for next year.

Too true. I feel like either a lie about the time it really takes to implement change, or Multi-bot will be there, and that may not be true, or else Multi-bot is not among their "vintage" roster.

I might not like the answers, but this is the informative and considerate Scott that I like to hear from. I thorough and thoughtful message. That was a nice read.

I do hate the bulky armor though, shame we might see it on some more (possibly key) figures this year, but who knows.

Those stands are a little off from what I expected, I'll need to digest first.
