"Son Of He-Man / Son Of Keldor" Era in MOTUC...

Does the acquisition of Filmation rights grant access to characters from He-Ro, Son of He-Man; ie, He-Ro (Dare) and Kay-La?

We had access to these stories and characters regardless of the Filmation rights (hense Evil Lyn's bio which is setting up some elements heading toward this story)

So, lets begin -



First Off -

STORYLINE

Skeletor has been banished to The Frozen Lands by the heroic warrior He-Man, and the Sorceress.

Meanwhile, In a far away forest, a small 3-year old child is found in the wilderness, by powerful she-bearcat (half bear, half mountain lion). She takes him into her cave and raises him in the wild. As he grows, the child quickly learns to communicate with the animals and has enhanced powers of hearing and sight.

As the years pass, and his bearcat mother gets older, he finds himself looking after her, as she once looked after him. He teaches the human language to a wild crow called Craven, a language which the boy is still able to remember vaguely from his time before he came to the forest, as well as vague memories of his real parents, a Beautiful Woman and a Strong Man, before he was stolen away in the dead of night. He struggles to remember his real name, but fails everytime.

10 years after Skeletors defeat, King Adam is now on the throne, with his Queen Teela at his side. Randor and Marlena have retired to the Summer Palace enjoying this time of peace.




King Adam is contacted by The Sorceress. She tells him that "The time has come to share the power of the sword. Legends speak of a boy without name who will inhert the power sword." King Adam knows nothing of this "boy", and is not very pleased with this turn of events. Even though he is now King, he still feels he is in the prime of his life, and is not yet ready to give up his He-Man alter ego just yet. But he realises he must listen to the sorceress and so sets off to find the unamed boy in the dark valley, beyond the mountains of fire.

Elsewhere, Skeletor has managed to free himself from his icy prison, that held him captive for 10 years. He frees his old ally, Beast Man, who sends beastly spies to watch King Adam's every move. The spies overhear the new prophecy regarding the child without a name, and report back to Skeletor. Skeletor does not like the idea of a potential new heroic nemesis, so constucts an evil plan to find this child, and teach him the ways of evil, before King Adam can reach him.

Skeletor sets off, with Beast Man, and Evil Lyn as well as several new evil warriors (detailed below). Beast Man sets his beasts free to track the child, and a savage fight between the childs bearcat mother and Beast Mans beasts ensues. The bearcat mother is killed!
Skeletor approaches the child, and convinces him that the warrior He-Man is responsible for the beasts that attacked, and killed his bearcat mother. The child swears revenge on the one called He-Man. Evil-Lyn takes the child under her wing, as she trains him in the dark arts.

Meanwhile, King Adam is still searching far and wide for the child, with his three faithful companions, Cringer, Orko, and an elderly Man-At-Arms (Duncan presumably, not Clamp Champ).

They catch up with Skeletor, and Man-At-Arms gets captured to create a diversion allowing King Adam to secretly transform into He-Man. He-Man defeats Skeletors new cronies, and tracks him and the child through a sereis of traps and into the Mountains of Fire.

Skeletor and He-Man both present the child with a choice to choose which path he wants to take, good or evil. The child eventually chooses good, after Skeletor blasts his pet crow, Craven, out of the way in order to get a shot at He-Man.

As the boy has no name, He-Man names him DARE after his courageous spirit to stand up to Skeletor.

Back at the palace, King Adam and Queen Teela, decide to adopt Dare, and he recieves tuition from Duncan, and his neice Kay-La, to try and get him more attuned to the civilized world.

King Adam is still a little concerned about passing the power sword over to this kid, as he is not yet ready to give up his He-Man alter ego.

Skeletor once again attacks, and King Adam must make a choice between passing on the Power Sword to Prince Dare, or losing hs Kingdom. He decides to hand the sword over....and Dare becomes HE-RO SON OF HE-MAN.

I actually like this version of Man-E-Faces, and while I realize that I'm probably in the EXTREME minority on this, I wouldn't mind getting a figure of this version of him.

This is a total guess on my part, but I think the concept behind his version of him was that he has this full body suit thing that probably allows him to transform and fully take on the appearance of other people/creatures, and not just their face like he often did in the Filmation cartoon (which was a pretty useless ability really, hence them making him an "actor".... the only time is came in really useful was when he posed as Beastman, and he still had to wear a suit to fully look like him).

And I think the clocks could work in one of a couple of ways. Either he has a time limit on how long he can stay transformed and those help him keep track of it, or perhaps he can set a time limit on it as he sees fit. Perhaps the initial transformation requires effort and concentration (like flexing a muscle, only more complicated), but he can then set a timer on it that allows him to stay in that form without having to concentrate to maintain it.

I think his ability would be more useful this way.



Don't get me wrong. Nothing will truly replace the traiditional version of Man-E-Faces, and I very much am a fan of his classic incarnation, but I do see the potential with this version.

CHARACTERS

First Up -

EVIL WARRIORS


SKELETOR

Skeletor appears much the same as he always has, albiet with a slightly new, cooler, outfit with spikey shoulder pads:-



Promotional artwork also shows him with a whiter skull face, similar in tone to his 87 Movie version. He has a new magic staff, with a black crystal on top. He is even more bitter than ever since his 10 year exile in the ice caverns, and reclaims his headquarters in Snake Mountain.

PANTHOR

Panthor is still around, and loyal to his master. In this version he is described with completely black fur, which may be due to his aging.

EVIL-LYN

No mention is made of where Evil-Lyn has been during the 10 years Skeletor was imprisoned in his ice-prison, but she still appears to be the same as ever. Plotting behind Skeletors back, and determined to become the Empress Of Eternia, with or without Skeletor. Young Dare seems to have a hard time figuring out Evil-Lyn, as she lies more convincingly than telling the truth. Evil-Lyn has a new, more revealing, outfit!




BEAST-MAN

Beast-Man seems to bethe same as always. The only additional point, is that Evil-Lyn occasionaly tries to turn Beast-Man against Skeletor for her own decietful purposes.



MER-MAN

Same as always, although seems to have a more slender look to his face and body.



TRAP-JAW

Same as always, though seems to have a new Jaw with spikey teeth, and no longer wears a helmet. A few other upgrades to his body too.



ODAR (MOST LIKELY STINKOR)

A character is mentioned that is exactly the same as Stinkor. Based on the fact that Stinkor's real name is Odiphus, it doesn't take that big of a leap to suggest Odar is just a shortened version of Odiphus. Therefore, most likely same character!

TUNG LASHOR

Presumambly the ex-SnakeMan warrior, now joined forces with Skeletor. The only promotional image of him, doesn't appear to resemble the vintage Tung-Lashor too much, but when compared side by side with the 200X Tung-Lashor, they could easily be the same character, they even have the same blotches, fangs, and similar shaped hunched over head.




NEW EVIL WARRIORS

Skeletor has 5 New Evil Warriors to help in his quest for world domination-

MISSILE-TOE

Appears to be a robot-tank like character, fully armed with deadly weapons, bombs and missiles. He is described as being very accident prone, and occasionally blows him self up by tripping over his own feet.

EVER-MEAN

Half-Man, Half-Plant and very paranoid. Seems to have a need for sunlight, to photosynthesise his food. Has deadly vines that he uses to capture his foes. Very similar to Evil-Seed, but clearly a different character altogether.

BUG-EYE

He is described as a pest, who can control insects and creepy-crawlies the same way Beast-Man controls beasts.

SLOB-BOAR

Appears to have a short temper. Is part man, part pig, and has a set of sharp slashing tusks.

SAW-TOOTH

The only new villain with no promotional image as far as I am aware. He is described as having a mouth full of sharp teeth serrated like a saw blade. Appaently he always eats, and will eat anything, including gems, gold and magic items.




EVIL VEHICLES

The Evil Warriors have some new vehicles, that are mechanical beasts with robot brains and simple personalities. They have artificial intelligence, and can talk to their pilots.

KARNA-REK

This is Skeletor's personal all-terrain vehicle, shaped like a monster-truck, with giant jaws of steel, and flame throwing eyes. (No image exists)

AQUA-REK

A shark-like vehicle that can cruise through the ocean, and also travel on land. Appears to be described as a portable Headquarters of sorts.

HEROIC WARRIORS


KING ADAM / HE-MAN

Adam is now king, older and wiser and married to Queen Teela, and they have an adopted son, Prince Dare, who now wields the power sword. Adam occasionally misses the ability to turn into He-Man after passing the torch, but is still able too, once in a while, when Dare gets himself into trouble and can't use the power sword.
Adam's relationship with his new adopted son, is sometimes fatherly, and sometimes brotherly. He vows to help Dare find out about the mystery surrounding his real parents.




QUEEN TEELA

27 year old Teela is still very much independent, even as Queen, and she rules Eternia as a tough and demanding leader, much like she ruled the Royal Guard in the past. She is fully able to make decsions regarding the ruling of Eternia when King Adam is not available, but she also watches out for her adopted son, Dare, and gives him love and advice when he needs it.

MAN-AT-ARMS /DUNCAN

Older, Grizzled and "semi-retred", Duncan now serves King Adam, as he once served King Randor,now under the title of Chief Tactical Advisor to the King. He is one of the few who is fully aware of Dare's dual identity as He-Ro.
He misses the "good old days" but realises he's not the tireless adventurer he once was. He still builds many new weapons, with the help of Dare, who he tries to teach the way of royalty and honor.



THE SORCERESS

Spiritual voice and oracle to He-Ro who radiates the power of good. He-Ro is the vessel in which her energy now flows.

ORKO

Exactly the same as he once was. Has found a new friend in Dare, and the two of them occasionally get up to mischief and misadventure. He still has his girlfriend, Dree-Elle, and a possibly new uncle, named Dorko.

[Mern-Ra]

No. I am not even remotely interested in either of their sons.

[MISSILE-TOE]

CRINGER / BATTLE CAT

Although Cringer is older, he has not aged, and still retains his youthful personality. Adam has entrusted Cringer to keep an eye on Dare, and make sure he stays out of trouble.

Cringer has a new rival, in the form of Dare's loudmouth pet bird, Craven. The two of them rarely see eye-to-eye.

Cringer is still able to turn into Battle-Cat, and now helps He-Ro as he once did He-Man, into battle against the Evil Warriors. Interestingly, Battle Cat now appears to look more Battle-Lion-like, and even has blue fur. It is unclear if Cringer still retains his original green and orange stripes.



RAM-MAN

Ram-Man appears the same as he always did, but now with new armor! He sports a new cool black and blue color scheme...



MAN-E-FACES

Man-e-faces is still able to use his mimic abilities to spy on the oposition, and get into the enemy territory unnoticed. He seems to have been given a radical makeover, possibly more "mime" like, and not at all like our original Man-e-faces that we know and love. (*see the section at the end for a possible suggestion if people don't like his new look*)




NEW HEROIC WARRIORS

PRINCE DARE / HE-RO

As Dare, he is a 13 year old kid,and still thinks of himself as an orphan who has no idea who his real parents were. His adopted father King Adam promises to help him track them down, and there are suspicions that Dare and Adam are possibly related by blood. Dare has some difficulties adjusting to civilized life, especially living with royalty, but still retains the ability to communicate with animals, and have all the skills of a wildchild raised in the forests.



As he has inherited the power swordfrom his adoptive father, Prince Dare is able to transform into the mighty He-Ro, in which he becomes a mighty warrior. His strength and powers increase, as well as his feral skills, setting him apart from He-Man before him.



CRAVEN / BATTLE-BIRD

An incompetent crow, who has learned the ability to talk from Dare, and has been his companion ever since they were small. Very enthusiastic to battle evil, but not very skillfull in the art of fighting.



When Dare first become He-Ro, Craven was perched on his shoulder, thus also transforming him into the mighty Battle-Bird - a huge armored fighting creature, large enough for Dare to ride on! Battle-Bird and Battle-Cat have a competitive rivalry to see who can win dare's praise, and who can be the bravest and best in battle.



KAY-LA

17 year old Kay-La is Man-At-Arm's niece (and presumably Fisto's daughter?), and is instructed with teaching Prince Dare how to compose himself in public. She feels she is ready to be a warrior, as she has been trained in martial arts, swordplay and marksmanship, and feels bitter about having to "babysit" Dare. She is aware that Dare has a crush on her, but her true affections lie with the mighty warrior He-Ro.
Although she is well trained, her immaturity and eagerness to jump into action often gets her in trouble.



AIR-BAG

This Heroic Warrior can puff up like a weather balloon in the heat of battle, and emit a blast of hurricane-force hot-air, to knock down any Evil Warriors in his way. He can also put out fires, but can be deflated with sharp needles!



FORK-LIFT

Fork-Lift is gung-ho and enthusiastic and able to pick up heavy objects with his fork-like arms, and throw them over his head. He-Man and He-Ro rely on him for moving any heavy duty objects when they are not around.

You know what, I really like the sounds of all this. I wasn't keen on this "He-Ro son of He-Man" way back when it first was unconvered, but know I can see the good stuff in it:

- It will add another layer to the MOTUC storyline after NA
- New characters are always nice to see - some of these really "feel" like Masters characters
- Nice to see how the old characters have aged and where they stand in the whole mythos.

I really hope that some of this is interwoven into MOTUC in a clever way without it being forced - if something in it doesn't fit - simply leave it out.

But yes, definetly interested. I like the lookse of Kay-La and Evil-Lyn, also Skeletor's new lackys.

HEROIC VEHICLES

FLIP-TEK

Eternian science has developed mechanical beasts to help the Heroic warriors. They have Artificial intelligence, and can speak to their pilots. The Flipp-Tek is a large vehicle that can change between a submarine, a hydroplane and a land-based armored personnel carrier.



TERRA-TEK

This armored all-terrain vehicle looks like a Stegasaurus and has 6 seats, 6 wheels, and can go from zero to sixty in 6 seconds!

BONUS

So I mentioned earlier that the only character that looks out of place is the new version of Man-E-Faces. All the other upgrades of old characters still retain many of their original aspects, and look like simple variants...but Man-E-Faces looks completely different...

Infact, with that strange suit, mask, arm-braclets with a clock on, and a clock symbol on his chest, let's be honest, he looks more like...

 

Unless anyone REALLY wants a version of Man-E-Faces that looks like that, I'm going to suggest that this character that appears here is simply a variant version of everyone's favorite time-travelling heroic warrior, The Mighty Spector! Look! They look just the same!!!!! And he has clocks all over him...in the same places that he has symbols on the figure...and he even has a wristband with a time device on it!!!

So, please drop a comment if you really want to see Man-E-faces end up like this in the future, or if you'd simply be happy to write this character off as a Mighty Spector variant.

(But why would The Mighty Spector be working for King Adam, I hear you ask??? Keep reading the Bios!!!!!)

Going to have to agree with you there- the whole plot seems like a failed 90's EXTREEEEMMMMMEEEE makeover that would once again rape childhood memories lol. Now I WOULD be fine with a Son of Keldor and Son of Adam EVENTUALLY but not in this way.

I've actually always been interested in He-Ro: Son of He-Man. I AM very concerned about how this is being incorporated into MOTUC though. I hope Toyguru was telling the truth when he said Dare is not Skeletor/Evil-Lyn's son...because he isn't.

Dare's parents were to be revealed at the end of the season as Adora and Sea Hawk. My biggest question though, is where are Adora and Sea Hawk...and why didn't Adora know her son was adopted by her own brother? Did they stop talking to each other?

Also...Mattel killed the Sorceress, but she's still alive in the future, and Teela is Queen.

That "Dare" character especially is unbelievably awful. Like some Disney reject.

I like Dare. His life mirrors that of his mother: kidnapped and brought to another world, while his parents are left searching. Tricked into doing evil, but becomes a hero.

That pairing is predictable.
It is also nonsensical, as Teela is the new Sorceress (I've always thought that was a good idea)- & that is a full time job that traps you inside Castle Greyskull (unless you turn into your animal form).

There are lots of women on Eternia. Why not have Adam marry one of those - perhaps Princess Rana of Targa (from Slave City) or one of many other actual Princesses?

That way you put some background characters in the foreground & expand your cast into new & interesting directions.

IMHO.

Adam and Teela were always in love...they're just young and don't fully realize it. The Sorceress was never intended to die. She's fully present in every canon. When the MYP crew announced they would have killed off the Sorceress, have Fisto become Teela's father, and have Snake Man-At-Arms...again...it outraged many people...and it made some glad MYP was cancelled so none of that stuff was "canon."

From my perspective on the canons, Teela's destiny was to become the next Sorceress if/when the time comes. To me, her destiny was to be Captain of the Royal Guard and the eventual Queen of Eternia. I like the prophecy of He-Ro. I also feel the Sorceresses live much longer than regular people. To me, Kuduk Ungol seemed like she had lived for (possibly) hundreds of years. There haven't been a whole lot of Sorceresses and He-Mans, I don't think. If the Sorceress is killed in battle, Teela becomes Sorceress. If the Sorceress is not killed, she will live hundreds of years (Sorceresses have longer life spans). She will witness the deaths of everyone she knows and loves, but that is part of the loneliness and tragedies that come with her important duties. She had to give up everything to protect the Universe.

Normally we don't spoil bio info, but for the sake of sanity and clarification, no Dare is not Skeletor and Evil Lyn's son. Two different characters. Keep reading the bios!

Well...that's a little tricky. Duncan may or may not be Teela's biological father depending on the canon you follow. Dare was found, and then taken in by King Adam. It's true Teela and Adam adopt Dare, but he will probably only be their son for a year (it sounded like Adora and Sea Hawk would find their son in the final episode(s) of the series).

If you want to get all technical, Kay-La is his cousin, but the only person Dare is related to is King Adam...and if Adora and Sea Hawk take back their son, Kay-La and Dare have no relation again.

Kay-La and Dare are the Teela and Adam of this series. Dare is also Adora (story-wise) and Skeletor and Evil-Lyn become Hordak and Shadow Weaver (story-wise).

I don't know how everyone feels about this series, but I think it would have been really cool!

I'm hoping they revive the Sorceress in MOTUC (as she never should have died...she cured herself with the Power of Grayskull...right?) and then she continues on being the Sorceress. I mean...how are they going to explain NA Sorceress and NA Teela now?
