I'm a little bit behind, but I just read the first Batgirl story arc and it is pretty lame.
No surprises, character development in the same way of an 90's Image comic and art is ok, but I was expecting more for DC bringing back the original Batgirl to the mainstream. It should have been in the same way as Marvel brought back Ms. Marvel. Here, it is as if Barbara may have not grown up from her years as Oracle. I used to loved her as Batgirl, but as Oracle I saw her becoming an independent very clever brilliant woman and then all of the sudden she comes back reckless and quite silly at some scenes. It made miss Cassandra & Stephanie for a moment.

I'm catching up now with Court of Owls and Detective, but I'm very tempted to get "Batman: Earth One" and "Death of the Family" now.

BTW, I loved the X-Men cover joke
Great trade orgers: Son of Keldor - sdilks -JeMaBo2 x3 - Kowl - Bigassbuzz (Hyveofvillany) - Queen Marlena - mikescab

And Grifter. I love the character but the series was crap. As long as Stormwatch doesn't get cancelled I will be happy.

Wait, what? But they just decided to continue Voodoo's story into his comic. Man, are they ever going to let Voodoo actually complete her story?

DC Announces 52 Variants For "Justice League of America" #1, Two Tie-Ins

    http://www.comicbookresources.com/?p...ticle&id=42020

A cover for each of the 50 United States and two representing Washington DC and U.S. Commonwealth Puerto Rico.

The Spin-offs are a "Vibe" comic from "Arrow" writer Andrew Kreisberg and artist Pete Woods and a "Katana" series written by Ann Nocenti and drawn by artist Alex Sanchez.

I think this is utter overkill when there are good needed characters that are benched like Cassandra Cain and Helena Bertinelli that could easily have their own series Or a Spoiler mini series. but we get this stuff.

Thing is according to I believe Mark Millar on Twitter, in the 90s the X-Men #1 fiasco caused roughly 20 percent of shops to close down, It was either him or in reply to him earlier today, but a stunt like this that is evenly distributed, and no incentives could kill so many comic shops

No, this is Justice League of America, the current title is Justice League. But 52 covers total for the new #1 issue in Feb.

I really need to rethink my buying DC Comics, what with them murdering Helena Bertinelli, shelving Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, and making sure Oracle never existed not to mention countless other bad things now they went and fired Gail Simone as writer of Batgirl:

    http://robot6.comicbookresources.com...er-of-batgirl/

Right now the book is doing a nice 59,000ish a month but thats due to the DOTF cross-over, itll drop down back to normal levels, and Gail's last issue is 16, her final part of the arc. And then a fill in until the real writer and artist are brought in, as Benes is off the book as well. I almost bet this book in the coming months will drop maybe take six or so months but it'll end up hitting the 29-30 thousand area.

    From her Tumblr:

I Am So Fricking Fortunate It’s Ridiculous

    Seriously.

Okay, well, if you read the news on Bleeding Cool, I unfortunately have the sad duty to confirm that it’s true. As of Wednesday of last week, I was informed by an email from my new editor that I am no longer the writer of Batgirl.

I cannot express my disappointment at this. I think everyone is aware how important Barbara Gordon is to me, and how important it is to me that her stories be told with respect and care, both for the character and the readers.

We tried our very best to do that, and it was an honor to write Barbara for these many years.

I have to thank the previous editors, the intelligent and classy Bobbie Chase, and the absolutely wonderful Brian Smith. I want to thank the rest of the bat-office writers and artists who never failed to be supportive and inspiring to work with. In particular, Scott Snyder has made a Herculean effort to support me, Batgirl, and the entire Bat-line, and I am proud to call him my friend.

I am in debt forever to the magnificent artists I’ve gotten to work with telling these stories. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Ardian, Ed, Daniel, Vincente, Admira, Stanley, and all the rest of you wonderful people I am too scattered right now to name. You guys have no idea how much joy your talents and craft have brought me. It’s absolutely humbling to work with people like you.

I want to thank DC for giving me the opportunity to write Barbara. When the new52 was announced, I was terrified that telling early stories of Barbara would mean completely invalidating her story as a disabled icon. We tried our best never to forget that, even when putting her back in the suit.

Very few writers are ever lucky enough to get to work in the bat-offices, it’s a rare honor and thrill and I absolutely loved it and will miss it terribly.

I am probably sounding a little bit maudlin right now, as I feel a genuine sense of loss. This wasn’t just another assignment to me.

When this was announced just a little while ago on bleedingcool.com, I confirmed it, and when I came back, my twitter feed was completely flooded by incredibly kind words.

So, while I am very sad right now and I won’t deny it, I have to say, I’m sure this sounds corny, but I feel very, very fortunate.

I have been lucky enough to live a dream that was too big for me to even think about as a child. I got to write Batgirl. When I was just a little kid, she was the first superhero I’d ever seen. A redhaired smart girl who could kick ass? It changed my life. And I grew up and got to write her. I wouldn’t be any happier if I’d won the lottery.

I still understand that not everyone was happy with the changes to her in the new52. But if it was going to happen, I wanted it to be done with honesty and care. And we produced a book that was a critical and commercial success. Twice in the past year we got raves from the New York Times. We had many sell-out issues. In short, I am very, very proud of what we’ve done.

But the reason I feel fortunate right now is you guys. Here’s where the corn level goes nuclear.

You guys have NO IDEA, no CONCEPTION AT ALL, how much you mean to me. The support on Twitter in the past hour was almost more than I could take, I had to stop reading because I was getting too choked up.

You guys have supported me and said kind things when I was low, and you let me know that fighting for things to get better was important and worth the effort, you made me laugh too many times to count, and you have added so much to my life I can’t even explain it.

Yes, I know this sounds corny, but it’s true and I can’t help it.

I thought I was going to be just hearbroken giving this news, and I definitely am, but the support from you guys and from the pro community is something very very special and I will cherish it.You guys made a rotten week much, much more bearable.

Thank you so, so much. And I wish the next team on Batgirl the very best of luck.

    Gail
    ------------------

zeroissues asked: Wait so the BC article says the last Death of the Family issue is your last - does that mean we're not going to see the Barbara's-recovery arc that you've been talking about? Do I need to start sobbing now?

Sadly, the new editor nixed everything we had planned. I think it’s very likely that will still be covered, but it will not be in the way we had been building to, which I am very sad about. And those issues are already written, but will not be published, I gather.

Heres more on it, plus the editor seemingly wanted to murder more women, Gail tweeted on the subject refering to WIR:

I wondered if that had something to do with it, also her postings on Batgirl within other stories about story elements she was unaware of. Could be a case of she worked well with and greatly with the other writers and artists, but clashed with editorial like many do with a supervisor type person.

Like in Batgirl where Babs and Dinah knew each other for years, and Dinah glad Babs is walking again etc. but in Birds of Prey #1 it states that Dinah had just met Batgirl a year before.

Gail knew none of this and it ruined her Batgirl series basically.

And now the entire arc where Gail was going to reveal Babs recovery was all written out has been scrapped, talk about DC Comics being rotten to a writer and then its fans. First they destroy Oracle, and then they rob so many fans of a story Gail had ready to go that she wanted to tell on Babs recovery, one that would have lessened the blow to the disabled fans like my sister that saw Oracle as much more of a role model than Batgirl.

So sad everything, that DC Comics has done.

    Sad.

I've almost completely lost interest in the entire line. I'd say I'm now reading fewer DC books than before the relaunch.

On the other hand, I've been surprisingly happy with a number of Marvel Now books, and Marvel has a handful of other really good books right now (with Hawkeye being possibly the best Superhero book by anyone at the moment).

I'm going to be really bummed if they kill off Damian. IMO, he's the most interesting thing to happen in the Bat books in years.

Oh I know he is a breath of fresh air. And if they bring anyone in to replace him I think that will be a mistake and it will alienate and cause a backlash to the character. I don't think they need another Robin for a while if they do kill him, unless they move Tim Drake to the role. Expand upon the adopted son maybe a bit to help Bruce heal from the loss. But I honestly don't think they would do it, especially with the covers leaning towards his death.

I'll be surprised if they kill him. I think they're hinting at it too hard for it to be anything but a red herring.

I actually think BATMAN AND ROBIN might be the best book of the nu52 right now. And the Annual from a week or so ago was just a terrific comic.
