"Masters of The Universe Gears Up For 30th Anniversary!"

    http://www.worldscreen.com/articles/display/30188

NEW YORK: Classic Media is partnering with Mattel to roll out a new consumer-products program for Masters of the Universe to celebrate the brand's 30th anniversary in 2012.

    Globo TV International

The new line will encompass apparel (t-shirts, sweatshirts, thermals, track jackets and fashion tops for men, women and kids) and accessories (wristbands, belts and belt buckles, key chains, costume jewelry and more) from Changes, costumes from Disguise and a special 30th Anniversary edition DVD box set from Mill Creek Entertainment. Publishing partners will be announced soon. Plus, the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line from Mattel will continue through 2012.

“Masters of the Universe is an iconic franchise with a legacy that’s deeply rooted in fantastical storytelling which translates naturally to play experiences and products kids of all ages love,” said Michael Riley, VP of franchise development at Mattel. “In 2012 the property celebrates its milestone 30th anniversary allowing us to create a robust synergistic program that offers something for all fans.”

Classic Media is introducing a new Masters of the Universe style guide for the anniversary celebration featuring retro artwork, all-new modern artist renderings, as well as a special 30th Anniversary logo. Classic will also work with Mill Creek Entertainment on the DVD release.

“We’re very excited to be working with the team at Mattel to celebrate this iconic franchise’s 30th anniversary,” said Nicole Blake, executive VP of global marketing and consumer products at Classic Media. “This is the perfect opportunity to re-engage fans with the original series and to introduce Masters of the Universe to the next generation.”

Since the 1982 debut of the Masters of the Universe toy line, there has been a 1983 TV series, a 1987 Warner Bros. film, a 1990 series The New Adventures of He-Man and the 2002 Cartoon Network show He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.

Interesting. Nothing about FILMation rights for use by Mattel...but definite proof of a developing partnership. Looks promising.

"Classic Media is partnering with Mattel"

That sentence alone is HUGE news and is VERY promising!

We may be on the right track with guessing Filmation rights after all.

I wonder if this press release spoiled part of Mattel's big SDCC announcement?

It's a probable twelve to seven this was one of the 4 big announcements. Doesn't confirm Filmation rights but if Mattel and CM are partnering up why wouldn't they? Even if it's only a limited time deal for the 30th anniversary. (Ie they can only make a small number of characters for say one year and that's it)

Merchandise! T-Shirts! Halloween Costumes! A new Style guide! This is awesome!

It's still gotta stick in the MOTUC team's craw that these announcements are coming out before SDCC.

Nah. I helped write the press release. The surprises we have for SDCC are for the MOTUC line, separate from this announcement about new T shirts and DVDs that CM is doing.

To manage expectations and keep people from jumping to any conclusions, try not to read into anything. We're excited that CM is doing more merchandise but this is not related to our MOTUC line.

We still have big announcements up our sleeve!

I'll marry you if it's a MOTUC Castle Grayskull.
    My seller/trader/buyer feedback:
    http://he-man.org/forums/boards/showthread.php?t=195461

MOTUC Most Wanted: Skeletor's Robot Knights, Two-Bad, Horde Troopers, Modulok, Sssqueeze, Tung Lashor, Stridor, Night Stalker, the Battle Ram, and a true, alternate head for Wun-Dar (since he's a "different" character)!

All this news is great great great! We're being spoiled lately with the Halloween costumes, impending t-shirts and the like. (Here's hoping for some back-to-school MOTU spiral notebooks and pens). Can't wait to see what you guys have up your sleeves in regard to the actual line!

    Guys and gals,

I think it is now allowed for us to dream about Filmation characters in MOTUC. At the very least, it might be a realistic possibility !

The new styleguide might help in that regard...

Dude, you guys trying to put me in the poor house? Even worse than I already am?

For real, this is super exciting. I know Emiliano doesn't like it when people treat MOTU like a religion or a sports team but....it looks like "This is our year!".

Ok! I'm still trying real hard not to get my hopes up for a Filmation announcement. But you gotta admit...it's getting harder and harder to do!

thanks for popping in TG, while we are all dying for filmation rights, a lot of us will be happy just to see MOTU get some love with T shirts and things like that

but the more I read your post it still gets my hopes up lol, b/c you are still not saying no about rights to filmation, just stating a true fact, that this press release is not about SDCC surprises for MOTUC lol

    I cant help it

That's cool news - I hope we get proper decent quality t-shirts that you can buy in the shops without going online.

BTW - Re: Filmation characters for MOTUC - I'm trying not to get excited - so I'm guesing -

NO Filmation only characters - but special 30th anniversary versions of the main characters in Filmation style.
