    Fearless Photog (MOTUC Custom)

    UPDATED: I have added "film reels" to the belt.

    Over the past few months, I have been working in my spare time on a custom action figure of Fearless Photog, done in the MOTUC style, that was based on Nathan Bitner's original design. My goal was to make the figure as similar as possible to the original drawing, while taking some creative licenses with the design (such as giving him boots). Originally, I was going to use armour from a Palace Guard, but I decided to use He-Ro armor instead to give him a more muscular look. I hope you all like him!

    Wow! Amazing x10!
    Is that head from something, or did you sculpt it?

    That's a pretty darn good representation of him! I had actually never seen him before, just heard of him. Good job! Head is integrated really well with the figure :-)

    I made the figure from parts taken from Mattel toys, including the head. My goal was to show that I could make the figure using parts that Mattel already has. I made the head from various parts. The "neck" is Robot's head. The bulk of the head is from made parts of a weapon from a "Batman/The Dark Knight" action figure, and a lens from a camera for the eye, which I put a watch battery behind to give it a metalic look. The clear plastic on the chest plate is from an old camera. I printed the running man logo on foil, then placed it behind the clear plastic. It looks somewhat similar to Sy-Klone's sticker.

    Recipe:
    Armour = He-Ro
    Body = Webstor
    Boots = Bow
    Shield = Sy-Klone.

    Aside from a few minor tweaks that you could always do in the future that's really good. I'd defiantly add the film reels to the belt, tweak the shield and if you don't wanna go straight from the design opt. for a lens rather then the crystal, but regardless really good!

    Highlighting/accenting the "Camerahead" with some gunmetal black or similar to show some character and weathering would also look cool.

    I considered using a reflector for the shield, but as I mentioned above, my goal was to make it 100% from recycled Mattel parts, to show that Mattel could make the figure with parts that they already have. So I had to use a shield that was already part of the MOTUC line. With the head, I used parts from a Mattel produced "Dark Knight" figure. As for the eye, it is an actual lens, not a crystal. I just put a piece of silver foil behind it to give it an energy effect, similar to the chest plate.

    I went back to the design and added "film reels" to belt, using wheels from a "Hot Wheels" car.

    I love it! Fantastic paint work and a really great accurate head.

    The extra work in the lens and chest emblem are such nice little touches that add a LOT! Using the actual artwork for his emblem was not only a clever solution, but it's really fun that a piece of the infamous artwork is in the figure.

    It was really important to me to keep that original design. I played around with a few different concepts to give it a more modern feel, but I kept getting drawn back to the original design. The rainbow holographic foil that I printed it on really makes it pop out. I was very happy with the end result, but I certainly went through a lot of trial and error before I got what I wanted.

    Whoa! I hadn't even noticed the pattern on the chest piece. What a great choice!

    Uh, pardon my ignorance, but what the **** is that?

    I love the job you did, but where did you come up with an awkward design like that?
    Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

    That, my friend, is the legendary Fearless Photog! It is based on the winning design that was submitted to the Masters of the Universe magazine in 1986 by Nathan Bitner. He was suppose to made as a figure in the classic line, but he was never produced.

    Wow, what a terrible idea. They were actually going to make a toy of that thing? Yuck. Someone must have been watching a lot of Ultraman when they thought up that idea.

    Anyway, disgusting design aside, like I said before, you did a great job with that custom. How long had you worked on it?

    The hardest part was finding the right parts for the head, and coming up with a chest plate that worked for the design as I didn't want it to look like it was just a sticker. So about two months in my spare time.

    Great job, I'am a fan of Photog and this is awesome, I specially like how you've made the head to resemble so much the original artwork and reusing Mattel parts.
