    Answers to WTFWTK 2.143!

Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your Round 143 questions!

This round of questions were selected by Tundra_Torque.
Thanks to that fan for their help!

    1. Tundra_Torque: Since all of the 200x figures were eventually revealed before the sub drive ended, will the same happen with the 2016 sub drive, which would include photos of figures sculpted at the time of the drive as well as the names of the characters yet to be sculpted?

Moving forward yes, we hope to be able to share as much as we can about what figures will be included in the sub. We don't want to hide anything from you guys and want to make sure you know what you are getting!

    2. Darkspecter: Many characters have received some of their fan-demanded accessories as pack-ins included with later figures. Fans have been asking for Netossa's missing mask for years. Will this be a future pack-in?

It could be. If it makes sense for the character that it would come with, then sure we could look into it. Again it all depends on how much actual demand there is for that item.

    3. facet: When Scott Neitlich was developing new characters for MOTUC to help move the brand forward (for example: Red Shadow, Bandwidth, Golden Rod, Snarl the Snow Thief, etc), he said he had notes and ideas for how introduce and include them in the line. Will Mattel be using these ideas for developing these characters in the mythos?

We want to bring new characters into the world of MOTU, we have our own ideas as well as the stuff that Scott left. It really just depends on how the team wants to move the brand forward. Hopefully we will have more info on that coming up.

    4. TUC138: Is the upcoming $60.00 holiday item a premium priced figure, a 2-pack, a beast, or a vehicle?

Wait and see. We are sure it will light up your life.

    5. EmaHalJordan: Will the Widgets will be produced for release in the MOTUC line, either as their own release or as an extra accessory to another figure?

Currently there are no plans. Again if this is something that there is big demand for, then it's got a better chance of being in the line.

So, I'm guessing the SDCC item will not be the laser light figures?

A very solid round of answers.

Moving forward yes, we hope to be able to share as much as we can about what figures will be included in the sub. We don't want to hide anything from you guys and want to make sure you know what you are getting!
I'm really happy to hear this. Hopefully this means that we'll find out if 2.0's are in the main 2016 sub. It'll make my decision to sub or not very easy.

We knew the LL figures were coming but I'm surprised they're the $60 Holiday Item. I was expecting something a bit more.

Good answers all around! Especially the part about the Widgets (sorry, I've dreaded the idea of their inclusion in a sub... some of my least favorite Filmation creations ever!), which also must mean... no Scientists, either! I imagine the Twiggets are probably more fan-demanded than both Widgets and NA Scientists combined, but I wonder if they will make the cut?

Same here. Then again, there are the out-of-sub items that pop up every year (Wind Raider, Battle Ram w/Man-At-Arms, Granamyr, etc.).

It would be great if the entire line-up for 2016 was revealed, whether proto-types, concept designs or just character names, during the subscription period.

I really hope we get Netossa's mask, but since it didn't come with Spinnerella which was the most logical choice, I'm not sure we will see the mask with Perfuma (IF Perfuma was even considered to be a logical choice simply because of her role in The Great Rebellion). I'm also not sure how Mattel measures "fan demand" for these types of things. From memory, Netossa's missing mask was first raised when Netossa was revealed and it's continued to be a "most wanted" item for many fans ever since.

Month after Month, I feel the same with the new answers that we are given each time....

    This guy rocks!

It may not always be the greatest news, but it's straight forward, honest, and to the point.

    1. Tundra_Torque: Since all of the 200x figures were eventually revealed before the sub drive ended, will the same happen with the 2016 sub drive, which would include photos of figures sculpted at the time of the drive as well as the names of the characters yet to be sculpted?

This is absolutely a great piece of news. We always used to get the same BS response, something to the effect of "Well things always change, and we don't want to release a line up for the full years of figures and then things change."
Just release a "tentative" plan. As long as it turns out that you're attempting to follow that game plan, I'm sure things will be fine.

Again, thank you for being straight forward with these Q&A's now.

I like the straight forward answers, especially the answer to #1. What I wonder now is whether the holding back of the info during Scott's time on the line was something that he was actually pushing, or if it's something that the higher ups at Mattel were pushing, but since have had a 'change of heart.'

It just seems oddly coincidental that this all changed so quickly right after he left. But at the same time, with the 200X sub and likely the 2016 line up, we are getting into territory that in some cases is more obscure or otherwise could just go in MANY random and different directions (unlike simply finishing off the vintage lines, where there is a specific, finite list of characters that oit would obviously be limited to), so maybe they are loosening up on this restriction more, realizing that now more than ever, people are going to want a more solid idea of what they are getting before fully committing to a sub.

I'll admit that I'm a little disapointed in the answer about The Widgets, as I would actually like to see them as figures, but I also realize that they aren't super popular (they didn't fair well in those polls a while back), and I never fully expected them to come out... they would just be nice to have (to me anyway). In all honesty ptretty much all of the Filmation characters that I feel were 'must haves' for me have come out already, and Angella this month was the last 'must have' character for me from the vintage lines. I'm still looking forward to other figures that we are getting this year, but if it all came to a screatching hault today, I'd be happy with the collection as is.

I just hope that they tread very carefully with bringing new characters to MOTU, regardless of who came up with them. If they sre of the same calibur as Draego Man, they'll likely be welcomed... but really there's plenty of charcters from other media that could and should be made first, and will likely be more of a draw for fans than completely new characters.

So my American friends, hopefully you guys will be nice and think of us foreigners for next months questions - Will the Lazer light figures "whenever" they might be available can they be shipped internationally? ie original King Grayskull issue

Interesting answer about the mask - we've been getting Filmation artifacts/weapons with Filmation figures with that being their only connection, so does that mean Netossa's mask could therefore "make sense" with any POP figure?

I'd be interested in the Widgets. Not dozens of them but if they released a three pack I'd be okay with it.

A 2016 line dominated by 2.0 figures I would not be interested in as I have everything already. Best scenario is a sub for 2.0 characters for those that missed out.

    Actually, it is oddly coincidental.

Yes, Scott had a lot of say with MOTUC. But he still had bosses to answer to in different departments, who were in charge of what could and couldn't be done. Scott was never this rogue puppet master some fans accused him of being. He was simply the face of MOTUC, and the target for upset fans.

Not too long after Scott left, Mattel made a lot of changes internally. We saw the start of it this past January with the unfortunate quarterly report and the resignation of CEO Bryan Stockton.

A new marketing director came on board right around this time. And I'm sure some changes we've seen at MattyCollector, including information delivery, are contributable in part to this.

Let there be light! I guess having them as the holiday item makes a lot sense. They were the last figures of the original line. And with the holidays around that time, there are a lot of lights out

But for $60, I'm hoping Mattel also includes something else, maybe Buzz-Saw Hordak (which we all know is coming this year at some point). If not, maybe even Saurod? Saurod, Laser Light Skeletor, and He-Man would truly be a good light related three pack.

I think out of necessity you would have to do a visual rollout. We are 7 to 8yrs into this thing. I love the line, but honestly the thrill is gone. Show me what I'm paying for if you want my money. I don't think there many more surprises in this line and that's not a bad thing.

Great answers! I think part of revealing more has also got to do with the vintage line being done--all that's left is so unknown that it needs photos to sell it.

The line up is planned and costed out way in advance. That was always a lame excuse not to reveal things up front for whatever reason (most likely because someone wanted the big 'event' reveals and to tease the fans)

I prefer this straight forward, no more games approach
    My top 10 items I'd like for 2016: 10/Stridor, 9/Granita, 8/Vultak 7/Filmation Tung Lashor, 6/Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina, 5/Filmation Teela, 4/Hunga the Harpy, 3/Filmation Evil Lyn 2/Filmation Clawful, 1/Dylamug.

Good news Netossa's mask is a possibility, I really hope we can get it.

Well if the laser light figures are the holiday item as the answer implies, then it must be able to shipped internationally as if I'm not mistaken the holiday item is included in the sub this year.

I'm a bit surprised that the Laser figures aren't the SDCC exclusive I was sure those would fit the slot the best, but I'm kinda glad they are the holiday item as I wanted them anyway. Now the SDCC item could be TC Skeletor/FF He-Man or the Energy Zoids (both of which I'll probably skip)

Mattel could easily design the Laser figures with the capability in mind, of fans adding lights themselves perhaps? Afterall a tiny battery attached to a bulb is hardly rocket science.

Well I think this question has already been answered since the holiday item is part of the Club Eternia 2015 subscription
    My top 10 items I'd like for 2016: 10/Stridor, 9/Granita, 8/Vultak 7/Filmation Tung Lashor, 6/Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina, 5/Filmation Teela, 4/Hunga the Harpy, 3/Filmation Evil Lyn 2/Filmation Clawful, 1/Dylamug.

If they're going with the light up feature it would be fun if they went all out and gave Skeletor an optional cloth cape.
