what i could see maybe im wrong in some

    1) too high the price
    2) there were not variants for the JLU so why should they buy them again??
    3) poor art for 35 dollars, poor posters, etc...
    4) out of scale
    5) only for usa market!!!
it should be awesome to get something like a check list on the boxes or aa decent poster like the 80īs one that was real art....
something that could make u want those packages and feel that without that ur collectios was not complete, maybe a different weapon, i dunno

another thing that probably didn't help (at least in my areas - both in CA and TX) is they were put on the bottom shelf. out of sight, out of mind.

Well that really sucks. These packs were like the only way to get good repaints of both DCUC AND MotU. If Mattel had put a little more effort into the DCUC figures then maybe they would have sold better, but DCUC fans have no use for the exact same Superman/Luthor/Hawkman/Aquaman that they already have.

Although Aquaman gets a little more of a pass since he has the cool deco. He's a figure that I want, but I'm not paying $30 for a slight change on a figure that I already have and only mildly want. Hopefully these things will get clearenced soon and I can grab a set.

This whole thing is so sad I could literally cry. And I know how silly it is to cry over a toyline. But seeing the death of this subline really makes you think why it was executed the way it was. From day one, all the stars alligned to the premature end of the DCUC vs. MOTUC line.
    - Way too many sets of the 1st wave collecting dust on the shelves
    - Far too less Wave 2 sets showing up in stores
    - No shipping outside the US
    - No selling in foreign countries by the local Toys R Us stores
    - Underwhelming - or even disappointing - character selecton (Supergirl/She-Ra without ANY change? Who are they thinking is so desperate to get these when there were so many chances before to get the charaters AND an improved She-Ra coming in november this year?)

I know nothing about international toy biz. But for crying out loud, why with branch offices WORLDWIDE for both Mattel AND Toys R Us is it so impossible to just get the excess of 2packs to the international fans, who - thanks scalpers - have to pay AT LEAST TWICE the money for a single pack PLUS shipping on the secondary market? I mean seriously! With currency conversion, buying a single 2pack in Germany comes down to $85 on the secondary market!!! EIGHTYFIVE DOLLARS!
Why do we international fans have to be PUNISHED THIS BAD for wanting to give TRU or Mattel our hard earned money?
I donīt care how hard it is to buy Japanese toys on the international market, as this is the same bad decission from Japanese manufacturers. Why taking examples from bad decissions and do the same bad decissions? Why not seeing the flaws and MAKE IT BETTER!

This is in no way meant as a rant! Rather, it is a final attemt from my side to wake up the powers in control! Think different!

If any international collectors need these, I can get the Skeletor/Luthor, Stratos/Hawkman, and Mer-Man/Aquaman packs... they are a little more expensive because the NYC TRU has higher prices than other TRU's... and NY has 8.875% sales tax.

There's a metric crapton of stuff he could come with. The following isn't even comprehensive:

Seriously, if they did Filmation Hordak as a straight repaint of the existing MotUC Hordak while spending tooling money on stuff like Thunder Punch He-Man or Hurricane Hordak and his dial, their priorities are skewed and then some more.

The second part of your argument was slightly better, but seriously...drop the economy thing. It's getting really old....especially as I keep having to remind everyone that MOTU was first released in another terrible economy.

I fully agree. While these packs may have done well on mattycollector.com, they certainly do not cater to a retail market.

They should just put these on their web site and allow for international shipping... They may not sell thousands but surely getting a few hundred of each of these off of the shelves would make them happy. I'd pay for a few of them...

They'd lose money. Setting up international shipping JUST for a couple of items in a dead line wouldn't be worth it to them.

Matty ships almost everything internationally...or do you mean ToysRUs.com? TRU will never ship internationally, sadly. If Matty put these on their site though, that would sell a bunch more units!

I hate to say it, but I think He-Man is like the Ninja Turtles. It keeps trying to come back, but it's past its prime and appeals only to those with nostalgic memories of the past. If Matty had dished out money in promotions and advertisements they would have just lost money and it would have hurt the line even more. I knew something was up when even even Classics toys on auction are ending in beneath matty collector dot com prices.

to be fair not all of them are.

When you flood the market with them, yes that does happen( see: reissues).

I think Mattel realizes this property has a chance at success again..just wants to go about it in the right way.

    This wasn't that way.

TЯU's US site, yeah. "Exclusive" means Mattel can't offer them anywhere else (including on MC), until that expires.

    No big surprise here.

The packs sold horrible in my area. When the first wave hit, these were impossible to find but after a few months they were clogging the shelves. I remember at one time I saw 18, YES 18, Skeletor / Lex 2 packs at my local TRU. The Supes / He-Man pack always seemed to sell well but the Skeletor / Lex 2 pack they couldn't give away. TRU couldn't sell them at $15 during their Xmas clearance sale.

I never once saw the wave 2 packs and I had to eventually buy them online from TRU.

IMO, the packs were just lackluster. I'm a DC and MOTU fan so in theory these 2 packs were perfect for me but outsides the Superman / He-Man pack the rest just didn't hold up as well. The MOTU figures were good in the packs but the DC figures were a waste. A straight re-release of Armored Lex, Supergirl, and Hawkman (that didn't even include all of his original weapons) was pathetic. Aquaman had a slight redeco but that was probably the one figure that Mattel shouldn't have changed since a lot of DC fans missed him the first time in DCUC. Both figures in the packs needed to be unique for these to appeal to Dc and MOTU fans.

Some of the new ones too unfortunately. I had to return a case of Optikks to Matty because the darned things wouldn't move. Then when even Orko was about to sell at retail price and I knew I would take a hit after fees, I got out of reselling MOTUC items on my ebay store. Now I mostly just deal with vintage antiques and Transformers. I know people hate resellers, but the thing is, when something is rare and its even harder to get, it helps the popularity of said item. Look at how popular the Wii was when you couldn't get one.

We've still got wave 2 sitting on the shelves here.
The first few times it was stocked they flew off the shelves, but not so much recently.

And, in possible hope for international collectors the Canadian versions of these are in multiple languages on the back and may be dumped in Europe at some point.

So you returned items from Mattie Collector because you couldn't make money off of them? Do I have that right? I have no problem with people buying stuff so they can sell them on Ebay. But I don't think it is right to return such items when you can't make a buck off of them. Returns should be for defects.

I guess we now know that answer to the riddle about Matty magically having stock of old characters.
