It got awful reviews and sometimes Jonah Hill can be annoying, but I liked it. It's part raunchy comedy & part "after school special" that you always know how it will end, but it worked for me. It wasn't great but it was entertaining just the same.

I wasn't even going to see this movie, but the movie I bought a ticket for had already started(I hate missing the beginning of a movie). The Help was playing next to it and started 10 minutes later. I ended up loving it. It was funny, moving, and just an all around great movie.

I was avoiding this because it looked too dark and dry like The Aviator and I wasn't wrong, but the character of Hoover is much more watchable and interesting.

The movie covers Hoover's 50 year career from the Justice Department to the director of the FBI. In the background is his secret life with his mother and homosexual partner.*

The movie is what it looks like. It's another easy Oscar vehicle for DiCaprio to get nominated and not win. He's amazing in this, total transformation. The make up on him is also believable when he's an overweight old man.

Other stand out is Naommi Watts as his lifetime secretary. Armie Hammer loosely plays his boyfriend, but the make up job on him is laughable and creepy. It looked like he was wearing a loose mask.

Should you see this movie? Only if you love Leo. The movie is unnecessary long, like he didn't know when to end it. And most of the movie is through Hoover's POV whose personality is very awkward, paranoid, and kind of inhuman at times, so not the most likable guy to watch.

You know what, don't see it.

Larry Crowne

Not sure why I saw this, morbid curiosity really. The movie looks cheesy and unintentionally oddball.

Well it's basically about a 40 or 50 something ex navy cook and current store clerk who gets fired for never going to college. He was on the bottom of the ladder and had to be downsized. So he enrolls in college to get a degree and maybe get his life back?

I don't know. I didn't dislike the movie, but it's kind of aimless. I didn't get the purpose, other than some interesting takes on "comedy".*

Wouldn't advice against seeing it, but you're not missing anything if you don't.*

The Change Up

I avoided this one as well and saved it for a rental.

Two best friends, an unhappy family man and an under achieving ladies man switch bodies one night and try to redeem themselves in other friend's life.*

Well the movie is really stupid and immature at times. The comedy is hit and miss, but the hits are really funny. It's worth a rental for the actual laughs, but kind of fizzles out towards the last act when it becomes more serious and less funny.*

Mild recommendation for a rental, not much though.

The Adjustment Bureau

This is one of those I avoided in both theaters and DVD because it looked dry and boring with all the scary old men with big hats, but it was on HBO last week and it's surprisingly good.*

The basic premise is that god, angels, fate, destiny, etc are handled like a bureaucracy. The god figure, if there is one, is the chairman, and he has a ton of agents (angels) working for him at different levels, making sure things go according to the plan written out for everyone. Things such as free will are purposely tampered with when it threatens to change the plan.

So that brings us to one congressmen who is destined to be president one day, but he shows up early to one place one day and catches the agents at work. They warn him never to tell anyone, otherwise they'll erase his mind. And they order him to never see this random woman who he falls for at first sight. Of course after being told this, he can't think about anything else.

I know all that sounds ridiculous, but it's a really well made sci-fi romance. I'd give this a chance, much better than it looks and sounds.*

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

Another Mission Impossible movie, really? I thought the original was the best of the last three and the only good one. Two was too much cheese and Three was a let down.

This was what a hyped blockbuster IMAX movie should feel like and it's my favorite of the series. They hit the reset button on the story, so you don't have to ever see the other films, but there are a couple of references for those that remember. Hunt and his brand new team are awesome. The chemistry between them is really fun. I would actually see it on IMAX. It's a great looking movie with the backdrops of Russia, India, and Dubai. Plus they did a great job with usual action you'd expect from this series. There's also a great female fight scene.

This felt like a re-birth to the franchise and the first time I want to see a sequel. I'd see it on the big screen for sure. It's only IMAX this week, but I felt it was worth the extra $$$.

Young Adult

This is Diablo Cody's third movie. I enjoyed Juno and found Jennifer's Body to be kind of whatever. I didn't get it. Both have her trademark fake hipster dialog, but she's capable of other things like The United States of Tara which I did enjoy.

This one is one of her better works on the same level as Juno I'd say. It's about a teen novel author who wants to get back together with her high school sweetheart, who is married with kids. She's really self absorbed, immature, and lives in her own world. The movie is very fun because it's through her POV and it's ridiculous the way she sees things. It's funny.

Theron and Patton Oswalt make this movie. It's a dark indie version of bad teacher, but the humor is always there.

Reccomended.

It’s a Very Muppet Christmas Movie – I have never seen this film before, at least I never thought I did.. but the plot is very suspiciously similar to “The Muppets” currently at theaters. Of course this film came first, and was clearly an NBC broadcast special judging by the special guests from Carson Daly, the cast of Scrubs, etc.. but, basically the Muppets have a certain amount of time to earn enough money to keep the Muppet Theater from an evil rich business type.. Despite the plot being too familiar, there was some damn funny scenes, especially from Fozzy.

Batman Returns – I try to watch this every Christmas. It’s one of my favorite Christmas not Christmas movies.. Danny Devito is awesome as Penguin, and Michelle Pfifer is a damn good catwoman. Danny Elfman and Tim Burton are a great duo for these Batfilms. I love this movie.

Batman Forever – I kept it rocking.. and watched more bat-films. I like this movie, I think Jim Carrey makes a great Riddler. Val Kilmer is a pretty good Batman/Bruce Wayne. I do miss the Burton/Elfman in this film, and Tommy Lee Jones is a bit comical. I’m surprised Drew Barrymore was in this film with such a small role. Regardless, I like this movie.

Batman and Robin – wow.. Who the hell approved the script for this? It’s like somebody gave a huge budget for fan fiction, where everyone has to have dumb one liners. You know, I’d say Val Kilmer was smart for getting out of this movie.. but.. at the same time.. I think Clooney, Uma Thurman, and Arnold are still doing pretty good for themselves despite this terrible flick..

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

I honestly didn't care much for the first one. It wasn't what I expected, but I didn't hate it. Found it more of a popcorn film I forgot about.

This one I really enjoyed. Plot isn't too complicated. Holmes and Watson are on a mission to stop Moriarty from starting a world war. The journey is very enjoyable packed with lots of action and dry wit.

The movie is a bit long, but much like MI4, it's worth your time.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

I've been watching movies in a flurry lately because lots of good things are coming out at once with the year ending and this is the one I've been the most excited about. I purposely avoided watching the original and knowing anything about it when I heard there's going to be an American remake by Fincher, whose been killing it the last few years.

The movie has two different stories that eventually interconnect. One is a very famous journalist who is hired to investigate a missing girl case from years ago and the other is a very gifted computer hacker and free lance investigator who is dealing with some really dark and intense issues. The two eventually meet to solve the case together and lots of exciting stuff happens in between.

Fincher does it again. This is one of my favorites of the year. It's back to his cold and creepy Zodiac and Se7en days, but I liked this better than both of those due to how amazing Rooney Mara is in this. I can't believe that's the same chick from Social Network. Daniel Craig and everyone else is great as well, but wow what a story.

It's another long movie, but you won't be able to stop watching. Gotta see it.

For the last weeks since i was here.

The Muppets: 2 times, the best one since Muppet Movie or Christmas Carol and been a Muppet Fan and this delivered.

Die Hard 1 & 2: I saw these in theaters as a kid and these movies bring out the christmas spirit within them despite being action films.

Lethal Weapon: Another great christmas classic for action fans, loved this since i was 5 seeing it in theaters.

A Serbian Film: OMG, what a truly extreme piece of sicko garbage that i saw at a midnight screening in one of my city's theaters that play foreign films and independent films, i heard that this was the most controversial film in recent memory but nobody told me the details about it as i was curious to see it. It does have a good plot which involves an ex-porn star who agrees to join a director to do an art film but discovers the director is a criminal who makes snuff films and i'm a horror fan who has seen some shocking horror films but this went too far and walked out on it after i saw that newborn scene which i didn't expected to see. I felt like taking a shower after seeing this and regret paying to see it, what kind of a sicko thought up of this trash? even gore and horror fans were offended and shocked by this i believe too.

Scrooged on Blu-Ray: A classic christmas film for every 80's child.

The Adventures of TinTin: Brilliant movie, the first Motion Capture animated movie to succeed since Avatar, Spielberg and Jackson are geniuses. I grew up with the HBO cartoon when i was 10 and was glad to see Herge's stories brought to life on film, Andy Serkis was terrific as Captain Haddock and those twins were hilarious as always.

The Dark Crystal on Blu-Ray: An 80s fantasy masterpiece that looks and sounds terrific in high defintion, definitely a christmas time tradition that i have watched for years since i was a kid and one of my top 10 movies of all time.

The Rescuers Down Under on DVD: Great sequel, even better than the first one which i love. I saw this in theaters when i was 9 2 times and had some merchandise including the Mcdonalds photo thing toys, a great thanksgiving tradition film for me.

Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 1: More mature than the last ones but the birthing scene wasn't too graphic as they said but still enjoyable.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011): Excellent US adaptation of the Swedish novel which was previously made into an excellent film in Sweden, Fincher does it again.

Batman Returns on Blu-Ray: Loved it since i was 11 when i saw it 4 times in theaters and has been one of my fave christmas movies, Michelle Pfefier was a babe as Catwoman.

Margin Call

This is another one of those movies that is going to appeal to a very small audience, but it's still worth your time to see.

It's about a fictional Wall Street firm on the brink of collapse and the only way to survive is to sell off their worthless assets ASAP to survive, basically screw over as many people as possible. This is loosely inspired by what really happened back in 2008, but from the POV of the guys up top, the 1%.

It's far superior to Wall Street: Money Never sleeps and a little mix of Glengarry Glen Ross and Boiler Room, except with amazing actors. The reason you should see this is for the brief moments of greatness between Jeremy Irons and Kevin Spacey. Rest of the cast also really good with Stanley Tucci, Zachary Quinto, and Paul Bettany.

Recommended.

I watched the second Sherlock Holmes the other week. I haven’t seen the first one, so the only reason I went is because there was a deal on for buy one get one free. To be honest, I didn’t really like it all that much. My friend seemed to love it, although he loves the first one. I just found it very boring, and I don’t like all the slow-motion stylised rubbish that Guy Ritchie always goes for. I could have done without it. I liked the actor who played Moriarty, though.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2009) This is actually really good, but Fincher's version is almost better in every way, except a couple of scenes. The best thing Fincher does different is he adds a very cold, creepy, and uncomfortable atmosphere to the movie, similar to the latter scenes in Zodiac. Whose the better Lisbeth? I think Fincher's Rooney Mara just because we of the performance and the way Fincher tweaked her in this. Noomi Rapace, the original, who is also really good, but Fincher and Mara just improved on everything she did by adding humor, more pain, and charisma to the role. Really glad Fincher remade the film, but I think you should see this right after the American version. Both movies fill in the gaps of the other in story telling.

The Girl Who Played With Fire (2009) This is the sequel and wow this is not good. They got a different director and a television level production budget it seems and the movie is forgettable almost. It's a really poor follow up. We get to find out about Lisbeth's father and a little bit about why she is so screwed up. Fincher needs to remake this because this hurts the legacy of the first one, but I think the audience will be disappointed no matter what since it can't follow the story of the original.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest (2009) End of the trilogy but there was supposedly a fourth unfinished book in the works that never saw the light of day. This is actually the second best of the series and leagues better than the sequel, but not as good as the first one. We find out everything about Lisbeth's past, but we do so in a court room. Fincher would be great at re-writing this, but wow, really won't live up to the original story again.

BTW, I just want to say that the Dragon Tattoo movies are down right incredible, and I am talking about all four. The first one is (Sweedish version) is by far the best of them all, followed by Hornet and then the US version, with Fire in last place. Noomi is incredible as Lisbeth, but I like Craig's version of Blomkvist better. Nevertheless, both versions are worth owning and watching over a hundred times.

I just finished watching Double Dragon. If you don't take it too seriously it's actually pretty enjoyable. Plus I'll watch paint dry if it stars Alyssa Milano, love that girl.
