LATTER DAYS Im usually not a fan of gay cinema, just because it tends to be low budget, and the actors aren't exactly A grade. However this little gem makes me warm. It might have something to do with Steven Sandvoss, since he is gorgeous and makes me crazy with his voice. He is soooooooooooooo dreamy. And yes, for you nerds who have a huge man crush on him, but will not admit it, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in this movie too.

CAPTAIN AMERICA Typical big budget Marvel superhero flick. Meh. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. I will probably never watch it again.

COWBOYS AND ALIENS Not too shabby, considering the closest thing I've ever sat through that resembled a Western was Back To The Future III. This movie had cowboys. Aliens. Action. It was fun.

RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Dull. Forgettable. Had a guy from Harry Potter in it.

Don't believe everything you hear. I've seen A Serbian Film, and while the subject matter is certainly controversial, it is not nearly as graphic as the Hostel films. If you just read a review of the film or a summary of the plot, it would seem really explicit on paper, but most of the sex and violence described in the reviews and summaries is implied and not actually depicted.

My Name is Bruce Saw this one on the Netflix instant queue. I enjoyed it very much. I thought it was a part of the evil dead series, to which it is not. Though, it was good Bruce Campbell vs some kinda monster thing, and was pretty funny. I enjoyed it!

Nothing But Trouble Well, the cast list for this flick includes Dan Ackroyd, John Candy and Chevy Chase. How could it not be great? Turns out this flick is an almost-comedy version of House of 100 corpses a good 10+ years before it was made. It was worth a chuckle, and it was neat to see Digital Underground and a very young non-hardcore non-dead Tupac Shakur in their cameo. When I looked up the movie afterwards I found that it won a ton of Razzies.. But, if yer looking for a fun dumb flick.. here it is.

Easily one of my favorite movies of the year. I think it's a little silly that Chris Columbus, days after it's release, grabbed the rights to remake it. Are there people THAT scared of foreign movies that they need everything Hollywooded up for them? How would they even DO that? Trolls are part of Scandinavian folklore, so it makes sense that they're roaming around. They can't have it set in America.

Wow.... Well, I got inebriated on my favorite mood altering substance and watched this and it was totally a blast! It was obviously made for fun and not serious, and it's just fun all the way though. Look up the trailer on youtube. I'd have posted it, but I noticed a 1 second nip-slip and didn't want to take the chance of getting a stern PM from a mod.

I'd read the Wikipedia article and it was very descriptive. From those descriptions, even if I couldn't see the actual acts, the implications of a man having (well I just thought about it and the descritions are tar swamp material). But you understand what I mean. It reads as though it's almost non-stop scene after scene of horror/violent porn that goes far, far beyond what I consider disgusting. Even just the ideas of many of the scenes described to me are just horrible shock value that you'd expect from a 14 year old trying to write the most disturbing things he can think of.

They live in the shadow of neighboring military conflicts among orphans and refugees. The collapse of their economy gave rise to a black market economy in which pornography, particularly extreme pornography for primarily American audiences, is very profitable. It is an indictment not just of those who are willing to compromise their principles for money but of those who are willing to exploit their desperation.

I had friends describe some of the scenes in detail. That's just not my cup of tea.

I haven't seen this movie & don't really think I'm going to(I saw both Hostels & those left me feeling like I needed a shower), but those reasons for the film's extreme violence & depravity(I've read them before as well) are either total bull or are some of the most pretentious things I've ever read.

I actually enjoyed the Hostel movies. The second one had a "so-so" ending, but I really liked the survival horror aspect to them both. Sure, there were gory scenes, but that's all horror movies have ever tried to accomplish.

A Serbian Film looks a little interesting to me, but maybe that's cuz I can separate the reality from the fiction. In all honesty I don't see anything all that horrific from people with sex problems, and as a matter of fact I kinda don't care about people's random perversions. So I'm only hesitant to see this just cuz it looks boring to me, regardless of any overall statement it's trying to make. It's kinda like the Human Centipede and how the premise seems weak to me, let alone the description of the movie being somewhat boring in my mind.

To each their own, but you would be more shocked and horrified watching Hellraiser than you would A Serbian Film imo

Mega Piranha: Awesome "bad" giant monster movie from the guys at The Asylum. How ppl can dislike a movie about giant piranha that face plant themselves into the sides of buidlings and then EXPLODE is beyond my ability to comprehend.

as for the Hostel movies I have seen them and as I said in this thread

Sure I have seen much gorier films than the Hostel movies, Braindead (aka Dead Alive in the USA) comes to mind but the difference I found is how it was portrayed. The gore in Braindead was immense and over the top but it was also funny which is why I could sit and eat my dinner while watching it with no problems whatsoever.

Hostel gore, such as the guy who has the tedons on the back of his feet sliced open, while not as bloody as Braindead it still seemed worse to me because of how real it looked and I am sorry but seeing people being tortured like that even if I know fine well it is fake is just too disturbing even for me

I've seen the Hellraiser movies. In those cases it's much easier to seperate movie from reality, for me at least. Gore porn and things like what's described in Serbian film bother me because of how close to reality they could be. It portrays very real people and their total disregard for other human beings.

Kinda makes me rage to be honest.

The film causes us to question who is more morally culpable: the performer who is willing to debase himself for money, the producer who is willing to exploit the desperate circumstances of the performer for profit, or the audience without whom there would be no demand for such a film. On its face, it is a statement about pornography but pornography is a metaphor for political corruption. It is A Serbian Film but it could easily be An American Film.

I rarely watch movies that aren't at the theater. My latest movie was Green Lantern for the fourth time. I rarely see movies more than once or twice at the theaters but I haven't got sick of this one yet.



Part of me wants to see this since it's so taboo, but anytime I hear some of the details, it leaves me reconsidering. I love horror movies and have a strong stomach for gore, but this movie just sounds like shock for shock's sake.

I want to see A Serbian Film just to see what all the hub bub is. Ive seen Cannibal Holocaust and Salo 120 days of Sodom (so called shocking) and wasn't shocked at all. I find real life to be way worse than any movie could be. Last film I watched was Fortress (1992). There is good drinking game to get ya wasted in there. Every time D-Day (Jeffrey Combs) says 'Man' take a shot. Nope I haven't tried this yet.

Again the wiki article led me to believe you see the boy's injuries when he's revealed. The entire article makes it seem extremely graphic and when combined with the reviews linked, it's believable.

The goriness of Hostel is totally hyped to sell the movie. It was a very dull film. The first 2/3 of the movie is following a couple of tourist d-bags as they scour Amsterdam for drugs and sex. Then when you get to the torture part, it's noting spectacular and very short. I didn't go in looking for gore, but if I was, I'd have been disappointing, even moreso than I was by the lameness of the flick.

The reason I don't want to see Serbian Film isn't for any shock... it sounds too depressing. It could be an art film at it's core, but it's just miserable people in miserable situations heading to a miserable end. It's lame of me sure, making me the dope who always wants a happy ending, but whatever. I watch flicks to escape reality, which is depressing enough thanks to my own disorders that won't let me be 100% happy even with a decent life. I didn't even like Suckerpunch, even though I was looking forward to it, because what I thought would be a rockin' movie about Emily Browning in a schoolgirl outfit, kicking samurai-golem-zombie-steampunk-nazi ass turned out to be about a miserable person in a miserable situation heading to a miserable end.

Grave of the Fireflies, while a wonderful movie deserving of acclaim is not one I'd ever watch a second time, because a movie about little homeless kids who slowly starve to death isn't my idea of a fun afternoon.

At the end of the day I'm the same with movies as I am with books. I only watch or read what I think I'd enjoy. Sometimes I'll watch out of curiosity but for the most part, I want to go into them knowing I'll probably enjoy them.

Three documentaries. Steal is about the struggle to control a multi billion dollar art collection. Excellent if you're into art history. Infamy is a forgettable grafitti doc. Whites was a glorious trainwreck that I couldn't pull away from. Great trash cinema.

Time Barbarians; Quest for the Mighty Sword; Conan the Barbarian
Time Barbarians was an awful 8os barbarian flick. Quest was enjoyably awful: schlocky,low budget, the same actor playing King and his heir (I think the same actor was in the TV series Coach). Conan was to wash the bad taste of Time Barbarians and the 90s Conan TV series.

the Norseman; Severed Ways: the Norse Discovery of America; Erik the Viking
Norseman and Severed Ways covered similar territory (Vikings vs Native Americans) with different results. Norseman was a cheesy 70s fantasy pic starring Lee Majors (the Fall Guy). Severed ways was much grittier and will remain a favorite for the scene of a viking, headbanging, to a randomly inserted metal song on the soundtrack. Erik is an often overlooked baseborn cousin to Monty Python and Time Bandits. All three are worth a watch.

Jarhead: Not what I expected. I enjoyed it's honest portrayal of all the aspects of the lead's military experience.

I never really enjoy the movies but if I ever start watching I get locked in just wanting to know the story of the killer/killers/monster. A lot of times I can just read about them and get just as much enjoyment out of it as I would have watching it.

I like them because they force us to examine things that we would rather ignore and cause us to re-asses our commitment to our attitudes and values.
