I'm sure the Granamyr sculpt will be a good mixture of both. The better, "realistic" body aesthetics(porportionate head) of filmation with the added detail (wrinkles, warts) of the mini-comic. 4H never fails on their part.

And for the record, I prefer red, but I support the green dragon too. I support all we can get. Though I don't know if I'll drop another $80 on Granamyr's brother- Greenamyr, until I see the initial sculpt first.

And should I start a helmetless Zodak head thread? That's what I'm ready to fight for.

Probably the 80$ pricepoint might keep people from buying two. But I still have hope because Toy Guru mentioned in the Q&A at SDCC that are going to do a flocked panthor and maybe even an unflocked Moss Man.

Maybe if enough people support this thread Mattel might consider doing a smaller secondary run like they did with the flocked ears Moss Man (although that one was more like a mistake instead of being a planned production run). I'm not familiar with the manufacturing process so I don't know if it would be a complicated (or costly issue) to produce a percentage of the run in a different colour of plastic (the poll is currently 65% for red and 35% for green). I wouldn't mind if the green variant would come at a higher pricepoint than normal red variant if that's what it takes to get him done in the line. I'd even buy two, one to keep MOC and one for my loose collection.

Given a choice I'd love a Green Granamyr, but if he's coming Mattel would need to confirm it before I shell out $80 for the red version. As much as I love the mini-comic Granamyr I wouldn't buy him twice at that price point.

I'm okay with the color, but I want to see the Alcala sculpt, not the Filmation one...

But after the 2 giants my expecations were lowered as I was not very impressed by the decisions made to the scuplt.

For 80$ he should be a lot of better than the cheap looking Marshmallow Man!

I voted green at the panel, but as a preference for a green dragon, not so much the Alcala design. Even as I put my ticket in the box, I could see it was a losing vote though. Oh well. I'll wait and see before I buy anyway. Too FILMation and he'll be bland. Too Alcala and he'll be less potent. Can't wait to see what the 4H do.

It's funny, because the Alcala Granamyr has always been my point of reference for the character. As you say, he looks so incredibly ancient, so full of unsurpassed wisdom and knowledge.
To me that design had loads of character. Yes, he did look old and feeble, but I suspect that was exactly the point.
I'd love a variant of this design at some point, if possible.

Anyway, I'm certainly not complaining about the version getting made. I never would have guessed when I started collecting this line, that we'd be getting vehicles and giant characters like Granamyr, and I'm really happy we're getting him.

I really want the green one. But I think, that is only because of the drawings/design and not because of the colour. Make a red Alcala Granamyr, and everyone will be happy. ;-)

This will be a $80.00 figure. At that price point, I'll buy only one. The only figure I'd spend more money for, would be Gigantisaur.

I like both colours : red and green. So I don't really care about the fact Granamyr comes in red or green. As long as he's well done and articulated, it's fine with me.

Red Filmation Granamyr might have won the vote at SDCC but I'm certain there are lots of fans out here who'd like to have a green variant, as portrayed by Alfredo Alcala in The Dragon's Gift:

For $80, the only Granamyr I'd even consider buying would be green.

Part of my dislike of the red Granamyr is that it seems like some combination of red & some variation of purplish magenta was one of Filmation's primary default palettes: Orko, Granamyr, Madame Razz, and Shadow Weaver.

I wanted him pale Green and yelow....

Those cartoon versions are just poor variations of the original character... Filmation ruined a lot of good concepts making them bright and colorful.

The original character was created by Larry DiTillio who worked at FILMation.

It's a shame the mini comic ruined the original character and turned him pale green and yellow.

But did Larry DiTillio say he was red in his script? (All kidding aside, I do actually wonder. I'll have to check Busta Toons' blog sometime.)

I didn't even know there was a Granymyr until now, let alone a red or green version. The only red dragon I knew about was the one in 200x. Was that 200x dragon a nod to Granymyr? That's awesome if so. Red to me is always more awesome than green so I'm glad red won so I won't be getting a green one with that price.
