MOTUC Mini-Comics "Press Release" and page one preview!

Have you heard about the all new 2012 MOTUC Mini Comics?!

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of MOTU, through a special one-time grant from Mattel design, we commissioned three all new Mini Comics from Dark Horse comics that will be packed in with the first three 2012 MOTU Quarterly Variant figures!

This all new mini series will feature a story by Scott “Toy Guru” Neitlich, script by Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash) art by Wellington Alves and covers by Eric Powell (The Goon).

The first issue is a “retelling” of the final vintage MOTU mini comic “The Powers of Grayskull pt 1”. As some fans know, originally this was a three-part comic that would have set up the 1987 line with He-Ro and Preternia. Alas, only part one ever shipped! As part of our 30th anniversary program we are "making it up to fans" and picking up the three-issue series and completing it for the first time. Part two and three will pick up the story and take it to new places and new battles never before seen! You are in for one wild ride!

The first issue will be packed in with Thunder Punch He-Man in March 2012. Issue 2 will come out in June with that month’s quarterly variant and will wrap up with issue 3 with the September quarterly variant. The comics will be packed out right behind the figure just like the vintage days!

That looks awesome! Can't wait to get the three mini comics. Maybe if the comics are well received we can get a proper comic series going by Dark Horse and Mattel.

Just noticed that He-Man is actually in his Thunder Punch costume in that shot with Battle Cat! Pretty cool!

Huh. Something I just noticed: Why is Prince Adam in his "normal" guise in the bottom panels, yet Princess Adora is in her She-Ra guise? Think that was just a goof, or could there be something significant there?

Guys, this new mini-comic is really amazing. As a huge fun of the vintage mini-comics I have to say: THE NEW ONE IS A MUST HAVE! Great art, great story, really nice work. I'm glad I was in the Mattypalooza Panel this year and got a chance to own this first part of the POG saga. Thanks to TG for this. The MOTUC line is a dream that's just getting huge...

these 3 mini comics make me happy and sad all at the same time. the fact we are getting any is great, but Im sad its only the 3 issues

i'm sad over the art...i know 2 guys on the .Org would have done alot better

I love that they captured the style of the original mini comics. Hopefully they will make more.

I'm not totally loving the art, but its only 1 page. The cover is awesome though, and I really look forward to the 3 issues. I hope they can somehow reprint the original minis at some point down the road.

I also like how the longest paragraph in the press release is more 'buy the sub' rhetoric. They are really laying it on thick this year.

man if they could have gotten EMILIANO to do it and also I would have liked to see Eamon involved and of course I cant forget about JVS3

But its still great to at least get some mini comics

The panels look to big for a minicomic, lettering and drawings will get very small if this get to be really a "mini"-comic size print.

Hope they don´t make that mistake and make it not so small, or we will need a magnifying glass to read it!!

this preview is bigger than a minicomic and even that way it is hard to read... LOL

Just got my SDCC Mini-Comic from a close friend, my god its small. I forgot what mini-comics actually meant I had to readjust my eyes

I really hope they consider doing them digitally in the future after the 3 come out, I don't think the size does the art proper justice

Yeah I think the new ones are taller, it has been almost 20 years since I last looked at a mini-comic (the ones with NA) so sue me if my opinion goes against the grain
