My question is simple, if the Boise States and the TCU's are so worthless or unproven then schedule them and let the matter be settled on the field. Its not hard to understand and its not hard to do. Those schools would schedule the games because it means a high payout for them and a chance to prove itself, its the big conferences and the bigger schools that turn tail and run.

You can come up with 1 million excuses as to why people beat who they beat. The fact at the end of the day is those victorious still happen, it just makes college football fans sound ignorant to invent reasons why big teams lose.

Perhaps not but until you give them a chance you can't legitimately make that claim.

I would refuse to join the Pac 10 if I were any team, that league stinks for the most part. Take USC and the Oregons (of which the Oregon Ducks are about the most half assed can't live up to their potential team in NCAA) out of the situation and you have a sometimes up sometimes down Cal and Standford

Boise State would be better regional and power fit in a revamped Big 12 (their style of play) along with Utah and maybe Houston.
Yeah. Put then in the Big 12. In two years they'll be playing against the equivalent of Big 10 cheerleaders. If Boise State wants respect it needs to play ranked franchises and conistently beat them. One game doesn't count in my book. Nebraska's playing three ranked teams in the coming weeks. Whether they rise or fall, it will be on merit; not just a greased-rails schedule.

    Go iowa hawkeyes!

Big 10 & Black & Old Gold support from Des Moines Iowa.

I don't have a problem with Nebraska finally getting into the Big Ten. I liked how Tom O called Texas a 3 faced liar. I now don't like the coach. When he said "we won't change to the Big 10 style they'll have to change to us". Arrogant jerk.

I'm just glad Missouri isn't in and I'm glad we beat them in the bowl game.

Big 12 commish Beebee let Texas run ruff shot all over the conference. Beebee needs to grow a spine and use it.

We can sit here and discuss/debate(and I would like to) if/when Texas A&M goes to the SEC and Oklahoma goes to the Pac 12. But we just don't we know. All we know are rumors. Grant it, it makes for interesting conversation but we just don't know. This may not even get settled till next season.

I've said it to people at my work place that I don't want to sound dramatic but the midwest and the plains area are big enough for two conferences and need to conferences.

Would I like to see anyone else from the Big 12 in the big 10? No. I would like to see some one from the east get in. you know so schools like penn st and Ohio st won't have to travel far.

Worst case scenario Big Brother Iowa puts in a good word for Iowa State to Big 10 commish Delany.

Now I'm starting to get nervous about Saturday's game. These boys from Washington have broken my Huskers' heart more than once.

Let me give you a little pep talk.

You're in the Big Ten now. We fear no one. We take on all comers. We give out beatdowns. Not take them.

So bring your lunch and roll up your sleeves for some rough and tough football.

So. No retreat. No surrender. And stay with your team to the end. Cheer your team till the end.

The Pac 12 is still better than the conference that Boise St is currently playing; just because OSU, ASU, Cal, and the others are in rut doesn't discount the potential strength of the conference the ability of most of those teams to upset ANYONE.

Ah big school, big conference snob. When McNeese State played LSU at LSU last year, my wife, my baby, and I wore McNeese State gear and cheared for McNeese State sitting in the seats we sat in for 10 or so years.

As for Texas A&M, as far as I know, it is a done deal; they are going to the big evil SEC. Oh and BTW, each time the conference met to vote for a playoff, the SEC was the ONLY conference to vote in favor of a playoff. Even the NON-BCS conferences didn't support the playoff during the votes.

I live in Salt Lake and, while I'm not a Ute fan, I can say that the Ute's entry into the PAC-12 has changed the feeling about college football in town. How? People seem to care less. They still love their Utes rabidly. But the loss to USC? The reaction was, "Oh well. As long as we win out, we can still make it to the Rose Bowl." Last year or any other year, that loss would have crushed people. They would have known that the chance to bust the BCS was over for the year. Instead, there's this entitlement kind of feeling like, "We're one of the big boys now. Losses no longer matter as long as we win our league." Is that the attitude that BCS league schools have always had? If so, it's silly.

That's almost the end of my rant. The rest of it is that I can't watch college football. I don't believe in a system that doesn't produce a legitimate champion. Sorry to be so negative.

P.S. Boise has been A LOT better than most people give them credit for. They would have been a serious contender to win it all if there were a playoff system. Say what you will about their strength of schedule. It's irrelevant. When they play a big team, they usually win. That's all that matters.

I pm'd Muscle Of Grayskul asking to join in on the conversation since he is an ex collegiate player and I think it would be neat to get a playe's perspective.
But he's busy and rarely gets on the board.

As for Utah. I think they went to the, now, Pac 12 is that they was getting over looked despite their record. So, they had to "sell out" and go to a conference that is BCS related. That may not be fair or right but that's the way things are.

Well, enough on Boise State. Until Boise State joins a major conference and plays major teams almost every week, I can't give them full credit. I give Utah credit; they deserve it. Utah joined ponied up and joined the big boys. Losing to USC at USC isn't necessarily a bad thing; it wasn't like they were blown out. USC is a difficult stage; always has been. Utah also had a brilliant coach put them on the national stage; that same coach led Florida and arguably one of the greatest people to ever play the game to two national titles. Enough of this arguing, it is tiring and is argued on TV almost every week during football season.

This weeks games; what are you most forward to watching besides your favorite team. Obviously, I am interested in OU v FSU. Stanford at Arizona could be interesting, Arizona is know to upset at home. It will interesting to see if Notre Dame can redeem themselves, sad to see such talent falter so hard. Texas and UCLA; I am interested to see Texas travel far and probably play a team they may be seeing each year, seems forshadowing is going on. Florida and Tenn could be interesting as no one, including the experts, are certain what these two programs are doing. I think Auburn is about to show everyone, weeks one and two were warm up weeks at Clemson, and that the loss of Cameron is not that big of a deal. Nebraska and Washington, eh, I have the Huskers shutting down Washington.

LSU vs Miss St, Miss St tonight can be dangerous, and that program is improving. I will have family there; although, they won't be wearing purple and gold.

The reason that Boise didn't get an invite to the PAC 12 has nothing to do with football, by the way. If football were the only consideration, they'd probably get it. But the PAC 10 based their expansion criteria on many factors beyond football--many of them having to do with academics. Boise State doesn't fit in with Stanford, Cal, UCLA, and the rest of the PAC on that level. Utah barely does. But Utah is good at football, too.

Boy was I hoping LSU would tumble last night. And for the first half it looked like Miss. St. just might pull it off. Their D was really impressive. Still, LSU is LSU. But I've just a hunch they're a little overrated this year. Stay tuned.

That sounds an awfully a lot like the presidents excuse to not have a playoff system, and their favorite lines they toss around that college athletics has nothing to do with money, LOL. Though, I can't argue, most of the schools in the Pac12 are highly regarded academically. That has kind of always been the case with the BCS conferences, yes, there are exceptions. I imagine that Boise St was put on probation across the board in athletics (some how football was one of the few programs that escaped a post season ban) for numerous violations over the last few years wouldn't help their proposal to enter into a major conference.

Yeah, I was impressed with Miss St. last night; they really brought it on defense. That most often seems to be the case when a top 10 teams goes into someone's stadium, as most upsets end up being road games. Always seems to boost the opposing team's motivation and determination even more.

This really has nothing to do with last night. But you know what I like about the SEC that I don't see anywhere else? Its the fact that the game is usually not over until the end of the 4th QTR. I say this every year but with other conferences if its lopsided at half time the game normally stays that way, with the SEC you can be down 3-5 TD and I swear before you know it you are in OT or 2OT

Great observation, Mark, and one of the reasons this Midwestern boy loves the SEC. Aside from your fourth quarter observation, SEC games somehow seem especially spirited. I know all college fans and teams are into the game, but imo there's seems like there's some hard-to-describe quality about SEC games that makes them particularly enjoyable.

This is going to be an amazing Saturday for football. Kim and I can't wait. Gotta brag a little here. How lucky I am to have an Irish wife who's a rabid college football fan, thinks Guinness is mother's milk and will occasionally even puff on a thin cigar {gotta be Cuban, though } during a really big game? )

    Go Big Red!

Years ago, I remember watching Arkansas and Tenn go into 6th or 7th OT; it was pretty insane. I've been to some pretty intense last minute and OT games in Tiger Stadium, and when it ends in a victory, you'd swear the world just erupted.

True, but for sheer cariac arrest, nothing can approach Matt Davison's Miracle at Mizzou with a last second deflection off a shoe. Fyi, the second video on the link is better quality:

Needless to say, Nebraska tied up the game with an extra point and went on to win in overtime. (Under word 'momentum' in the dictionary there's a link to this video.) Kim's brother, David, was at Mizzou for this game, decked out in Husker garb. During a post-game dinner at Steak 'n' Shake he was nearly dragged out, tarred and feathers and carried out of town on a rail.

The infamous shoe TD, god I remember that

One of the examples I like to use that Nebraska will do whatever it takes to win, whether its (ahem) legal or not

Years ago the joke was that the team was such a powerhouse because the state decided to allow the players out on work release for weekends.

I'm happy for Nebraska's win on Saturday, but I have to say that Bo calling for the Huskers to go for it on fourth down instead of kicking a field goal, when they were up by thirteen points was one of the most boneheaded calls I've ever seen. You've got a kicker who's perfect, you make the filed goal and that means Washington needs to make two touchdowns and two two-point conversions. As it was, it made it so all they needed was two TDs. The sheer luck of the Huskers' interception doesn't change a bad coaching call.

Oh man, I don't know, Les Miles has called some stuff that even though it worked out most of the time, almost every LSU fan is still scratching their heads.

Yeah, I'm with you on that, Southzen. Luck does not equate to wisdom.

Congrats on LSU jumping Alabama this week. But enjoy it while it lasts. If I was a betting man, which I'm not, I'd bet on Alabama being #1 and LSU #2 at the end of the regular season. Both are truly great teams and it's a joy for this college football fan to watch either of them play. I think Oklahoma's overrated -- not that they're not an excellent team, but imo they're just a shade (but not a lot) overrated. I think they'll lose to Texas (who, importantly, they play at Texas). Boise State, with a monumentally pathetic schedule that basically has them playing high school teams, will irritatingly stay in the top five, although in my book they don't deserve to be in the top ten. And yes, yes I know they can win a big game, but being a top five team, imo, means you need to be able to regularly beat ranked teams during the season.

I think the BCS National Championship Game will see Alabama pitted against LSU. It'll be a great game -- maybe even a classic. But I'll call Alabama as it presently stands. Rarely have I seen a team that looks so tight and dominant.

    That said, Go Big Red!

I saw that, we could probably do well in that conference especially now that Pitt and Syracuse are jumping for the ACC.

I can't believe ISU is sitting right outside the Top 25, I doubt we will beat Texas like we did last year but considering most of the fans expected this to be a rebuilding year with no bowl game in sight I am ecstatic we are 3-0

I imagine the world would explode if not only one but two SEC teams and even further, two SEC teams from the same division ended up in the BCS game, LOL. Bah, I hate Bama with an unnatural passion. I think Oklahoma is a good team this year; I don't know about number one, because I don't have much faith in Florida State being ranked where they were. I honestly don't like being ranked so high during the early part of the season; it always feels like a curse.

Yeah? Just be grateful the Huskers aren't in the Big Twelve anymore, brother.

Seriously, congrats and very impressive. I'd love to see you guys in a bowl game...and win! I'll be cheering you on. What a statement that would be.

Hey now we were actually getting competitive with you, winning in 2009 and barely losing in 2010...then you leave

Of course I will probably yearn for those days when we end up god knows where, in the Big East or whatever mis-mash conference ends up destroying our programs for the glory of the few greedy programs/conferences that run College Football
