I love College Football, to me it's more exciting then the NFL. I watch games just to see the games where as the NFL only interests me based on team

Rankings will be interesting this week

Well let's see. I met Kim in 1994 when I was living in the Bahamas. As a former Chicago boy I was only into pro sports, but Kim is a University of Nebraska alum and a fierce college football fan. When we decided to get married, I told her I wanted to move to Boca Raton, Florida. She said she'd marry me but I'd have to get a big screen TV, a dish and fly her to Lincoln -- a/k/a Mecca -- three times a year to see the Huskers play.

I did -- and after the glory years in the 90s I became a rabid convert. Now we live in the Midwest and love it because we're driving distance to games. One of our youngest's first sentences was "Go Big Red!"

I'm sooooo impressed about your Nebraska lineage. I'll pass that along to Kim who, by the way, is the cousin of Notre Dame Heisman Award winner Johnny Lujack

Is this a fun thread or what?

Schedules of the 6 undefeated teams:

Stanford - @ OR St, vs OR, vs Cal, vs Notre Dame
Managed to escape USC in 3OT. Oregon looms. Would probably face USC or AZ St in the conference title game.
Boise State - @ UNLV, vs TCU, @ SD St, vs Wyoming, vs NM
TCU's the big one left on the schedule.
Houston - @ UAB, @ Tulane, vs SMU, @ Tulsa

SMU's the big one left on the schedule.
Oklahoma State - vs KS St, @ TX Tech, @ ISU, vs OK

Kansas State, two potentially tough road games, then Oklahoma to finish the season. No conference title game.

Alabama - vs LSU, @ Miss St, vs GA Southern, @ Auburn
LSU - @ Alabama, vs W. KY, @ Ole Miss, vs Arkansas

Play each other on Saturday. Winner probably faces USC or UGA in conference title game. Win that, and they're likely in to the national title game.

And before Saturday all the top newscasters were categorically declaring they were the best team in the Big Ten.

Kudos to Mandel, btw, who called the Nebraska upset...along with me, of course.

I don't know, Meg. I went along with Wisconsin being tops for a long time.

It's just that there's a lot of parity and a lot of unforeseen factors. It's just all over the place. One week you're an invincible #4 and then your season's over. And heaven knows I've seen enough over-ranked Huskers teams fall from grace over the years.

But then that's the excitement of college ball. You never know what's coming. What I do know is that it feels awfully good to see that big red N sitting at the top of the Legends Division...from the time being, at least.

Well the mainstay's in the Big Ten in the past have always been Ohio State,Michigan & Penn State until Wisconsin can prove it more than a year I have my doubts

Imo, it's a disgrace that Stanford is in the top ten, playing against second tier teams. Oregon is going to dismantle them.

Sure looked that way with a bad call about the time left on the clock at the 'end' of regulation. If they kept the one second left on the clock, as the replay, imo, clearly showed, USC would have kicked a field goal to end the game.

The guys's knee was down before his body went out of bounds, so time expired as per rules. Also the officials ruled a Stanford td incomplete when it was fair catch. Pac12 has the worse record for missed and bad calls. Also there was a late tackle out of bounds on luck. Stanford is undefeated and so is the under investigation and probation Boise state. They deserve is as much as anyone. Oregon got the floor wiped by LSU; there fastest best player was run down from behind by a defensive tackle. If I hear one more quit about Oregon being the high powered fastest offense I'm going to fall over laughing.

BCS Standings are out, for those who don't know the BCS standings use the Harris poll, the coaches' poll and computer ratings to determine which teams play for the national championship instead of a playoff.

    1. LSU
    2. Alabama
    3. Oklahoma State
    4. Stanford
    5. Boise State
    6. Oklahoma
    7. Arkansas
    8. Oregon
    9. South Carolina
    10. Nebraska

I can live with that. (Grumbles re: SC at #9.) Just heard a prediction on BCS Countdown about the Huskers projected to play Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Way too early for that kind of guessing as there's still a lot of football left to play, but it's a fun exercise and I'd sure be happy come Rose Bowl time with that game.

I think it would be fun to see Nebraska take on Stanford, then Jack you could have your final say over the matter of Stanfords weak schedule

I think it would be nice to see Ok St in the National Title game, they have been building their program up over a number of years and it would also be a nice slap to their big brothers who always seem to dictate the direction of the conference.

But first they have to make it through, I would not be surprised to see Kansas State or Iowa State beat them, I have watched far too much B12 football to know that near the end of the season the top teams have a tendancy to make errors under the pressure of looking ahead

I'd love to see ISU smack down Ok St! That would earn more respect for a team -- but for some catastrophic injury losses -- could have been waaaaay up there in the rankings. (Plus my mother-in-law is an ISU grad and a huge fan.)

I'm always in favor of new blood at the top, so watching OK St. in the title game would be fine by me - if they make it through undefeated. But like you pointed out, those back-to-back road games against TX Tech and ISU no longer look like sure things. Then there's that little matter of Oklahoma at the end of the season...

I'm not sure if they have much of a leg to stand on, but West Virginia is suing to try to get out of their contract early with the Big East.

IDK if they've got a real legal argument, but it sounds like their pitch is that the Big East commissioner didn't do his job (you know, looking out for the future of the conference ), so their contract with the conference is breached. I can't argue with the bit about the commissioner not doing his job.

Back when Texas A&M started to go, tons of people were saying that the Aggies move would lead to the restructuring of the national conference landscape. If you were a conference commissioner, how could you get blindsided by Pitt and Syracuse jumping? Or UConn & Rutgers openly trying to join the ACC? Then, they didn't get the fees raised before TCU left. Nevermind that the Big East should've been doing what the Big 12 was doing by adding TCU - bolstering their conference by adding quality teams that made (at least a little) geographic sense. And when the commissioner did finally get them to raise the exit fee, it was only contingent upon a series of schools joining the conference.

I imagine the Big East commissioner sitting at a conference table with a bunch of empty seats saying, "Well, this could've gone better."
