I think it's just a coincidence, resulting from the attempt to create a typical dragonman, combined with the Horsemen's past of designing awesome dragons.

I prefer him to actual dragons. I don't like dragons in motu.
And as rodster pointed out similar things are all over the place in the franchise.
Unless Draego-Man is really dumb, or not as powerful as he looks, he looks like he could wipe the floor with the entire group of evil warriors he's supposed to be part of. And he's really no more silly than a lot of stuff in the franchise.

"Why's Dragstor riding on Night Stalker?" "Cause he can."
Coincidence or not, I hope we will see a MOTU dragon after Granamyr, one based on the blue dragons from Filmation in particular. I also wouldn't say no to a classicized MYP purple dragon, but I especially loved those blue dragons more.
McFarlene Spawn line.
Draego Man looks nothing like the knock off motuc figure AT ALL except that he is a dragon man, and red, that' like saying Skeletor looks like the skeletons from jason and the argonauts because they both have skulls.
I would say that the resemblance to the heads of Draego Man and the dragon on the coloring book is eerily similiar, HOWEVER despite dragons not being real, alot of red dragons look alike, and artists have taken bits of inspiration from others before them.

No Two Bad we... Well, that's actually just too bad.
Hey, guys !!!
A friend of mine posted this same Activity Book cover in July 27th, in "The I love Draego-Man thread !" (page 8).
He said to me he was in Mattypalooza panel and, when he saw Draego-Man, he realized he had already seen this guy before...Infact, he has this book !
Exactly, Monteeg! I put my eyes on Draego-Man pics, still in Mattypalooza panel, and it seemed so familiar... Later, in the Mattel booth, I told that to Scott and he said it was probably a generic inspiration. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to ask Eric Treadaway about that...
This is the cover I have since I was a child (that's why I remembered it so quickly). It's the brazilian version of the book:

The coloring book dragon looks noticeably similar to the dragon Vermithrax from the 1981 movie Dragonslayer, which seems to have had a big influence on dragon depictions. Where it differs from Vermithrax it's very reminiscent to Larry Elmore's dragon art for Dragonlance, which dates back to 1984. I don't think that's any coincidence.
In any case the Draego Man's look fits the 80's style very well.

I gotta disagree, I think it makes for some great story potential. a dragon human hybrid that serves evil! where in the universe does he fit in, how did it happen was it what caused the rift between human and dragons? maybe he is the child of that dragon, Torm, that turned human in the filmation episode; The Reurn of Granamyr or of a similar union. I think it opens the door to some (potentially) awesom fantasy

Wow that is a really nice cover. Was there a story to go along with it or is it just a colouring book?

Got to agree with Krosfyah here. If I'm correct (but I can't just remember all Filmation-episodes), Dragons tend to keep more of a 'neutral stance'? Cf. MYP-toons, where the dragons come to He-Man's aid just become he was nice to them but in fact they don't actually mingle a lot. I think Granamyr is yet another example. So, a purely evil dragon could perhaps only exist when merged with a(n) (evil) human/spirit or whatever, thus creating Draegoman. I don't know, perhaps there are evil dragons as well in the series.
