WIP Mini Comic Cover: "King of Castle Grayskull" as an Oil Painting

Hello there.

I am actually working on a new little project – transferring an old cover into
a 40" x 32" sized oil painting. I love the pre-filmation comics and KOCG is my all-time-favorite.
As a fan of the original old-style box arts done by Rudy Obrero or William George and so I try to give it that look.

Spectacular work. I really, reallly love what you've done with Grayskull and the background. Great treatment. Battle Cat looks spectacular so far as well. Thanks for sharing the process, you do great work.

I do not know any adjectives to describe the level of awesomeness your painting is on. It looks amazing, I can't wait to see the finished product!

But why did you chose a red background instead of the originals blue...? I know you want to invoke the old box-art where there was often a lot of red, but I think it's a mistake in this case, because the blue in the original help to differentiate the piece, and give it some personality of its own.

I don't think it's a mistake. I think it's just the try to cross two very-first-age MOTU styles. Mini-Comics and Box Art.

I absolutely love it, but my only problem are the way how He-Man hold his shield on this one, I rather choose that there's a leather strip on the shield.

Oh, I'm far, far away from completing arm and shield - and leather Straps will be the very last things I add.

You know, I am even still not sure about the concrete position of the shield, so I will not finish the area until I am. The wonderful thing about oil colors is that you can paint it over and over again, and I love to do it. So I develope objects only while painting - as I did at weekend (perfect transition to my update

I changed He-Man's head to get a more accurate "KOCG" pose. The head has to be more in Skeletor's direction. I am actually trying to get his anatomically seen "difficult" original posture of his arms and upper body to a good looking and half way correct pose.
