First Custom Project After a Looooong Break (figure accessory)

Hey everyone!

It's been a little east of forever since I last posted any of my projects here on the forum. But I wanted to show a little preview of what I'm working on now, as my first foray back into custom figures. This is a precursor to an accessory pack I'll be producing for the MOTUC line, but I'll also be striving for maximum compatibility to the 200X line.

Included are a few "preview" images of the piece; I like to see in-progress photos, but since this is my first project in a while, I'd rather not show it all until it's totally done.

I know this is a super simple project compared to some of the customs I've seen on here from Royalt1us, masterenglish, nemesis15425, and others but everyone has to start somewhere. This little piece is my first step on that path.

What's different about this project, versus my old projects from way back is, this set is being created with reproduction in mind. My target for these pieces is the same level of quality you get when purchasing in-store or from MattyCollector.

I know I'm "new" to the forum, so I hope everyone takes a look as I post updates! The best part of this production is, for me at least, is I've been documenting my entire process, from first sketch to building the mold (where I'm at now). So far, I have 290+ photos illustrating every step of the process.

Once this piece is done, I'll be writing up a HUGE tutorial (several chapters) to share my process with all the customizers on the forum. I know there some great customizers & sculptors here on the forum, which is a big part of what got me going on this project, so please give me crits & feedback as I share my little creations!

the pics w/ skeletor holding that sword are really blurry.

Hey guys!

Those pics are purposely blurry, I shot them with a Nikon macro lens, specifically to blur out the sword (what @Iceman was asking about) while keeping Skeletor in focus.

I'm adding one in-progress photo to the end to show its basic design.

Also, it came to my attention after posting this last night that the linked photos don't show up, and that you have to click the dropbox link to see them (not a huge deal, but a little annoying). After posting this reply, I'll be fixing that, so a few of the images will be visibile within the thread.

Thanks! Hahaha, I know, right? It may be a high bar but it gives me something to strive toward! It's pretty exciting, I just need to do a better job of making time to work on it, amongst the 5 other non-customs projects I've always got going on.

Hi Aaron, welcome back. From what I've seen so far you're off to a great start on this project, and I wish you the best. molding and casting is a fun hobby, but be forwarned it can also be a huge pain in the... i feel it's worth the times of frustration when you get to kick back and admire a model in an "I made that" moment of pride.

Is that a Powersword based on the original minicomics?

Thanks man, I'm hoping to get that feeling, and already do to a degree, even though this project isn't 100% complete. I can't wait to write my how-to once I've made successful casts (speaking of which, I should probably get some tint for the casting material).

Hey Iceman, it's very loosely based on the minicomics Power Sword.
I chose this design mostly to keep the difficulty level manageable since this is my first new project in years. I didn't want to take on something too big or I would run a high risk of not finishing.

My next project is to do a handful of weapons and accessories, there will probably be a sword in there that's more heavily inspired by the minicomics Power Sword than this one.

Speaking of which, are there any types of weapons/ accessories you (meaning anyone on the forum) would like to see that haven't been made yet? I'm thinking swords, shields, guns, knives, spears/ polearms, other melee weapons, etc?

I think we'll see an official release of The Staff of Avion, but I really like your other suggestions. Especially the idea of a sword for stratos.

From what I see in that pic, that sword is pretty cool looking. It brings me back to the first few mini-comics when Skelly had just a regular sword.

I'd love to see the sword from the Grayskull flag

Eternia Playset weapons

I think if you did a toned down version of MAA's hand canon, it would be a huge hit on here.

Sorry for the delay in replying in the last few days, I was away from home visiting family.

I love all of the suggestions and added them to a list of potential projects!

I can say right up front that, between now and new year's, I'll be busy with my online bookstore sales and some freelance design projects I have going. These other obligations will cause my project updates to be intermittent until the holiday season passes.
