Want to help? Top 10 episodes

    Hey He-Fans,

Looking for a way to help with the line? I'm putting together a list of the top 10 episodes from each animated series to pass along to management and other members of the team not as familiar with each series (MOTU, POP, NA and MY MOTU). Drop line on the thread and I'll check back tomorrow to put a list together. Love to hear your suggestions!

And I'm not looking for just "your" favorite episodes, if someone was going to watch only 10 episodes of each series, which 10 should they watch?

Okay, here are my top 10 (I'm assuming you mean for each series):

    2002 Series:

    The Power of Grayskull
    The Ties that Bind
    Underworld
    The Council of Evil Pt1
    The Council of Evil pt2
    The Last Stand
    Turnabout
    Seperation
    The Price of Deceit
    History

    Filmation:

    Teela's Quest
    Orko's Return
    Battlecat
    Origin of the Sorceress
    Teela's Trial
    The Time Wheel
    The Rainbow Warrior
    The Cold Zone
    The Secret of Grayskull
I cannot think of the name of this episode, but it is where He-Man and Orko travel to Trolla and fight some dragoon looking man.

    She-Ra:

    Flowers for Hordak
    The Sea Hawk
    Anchor's Aloft pt1
    Anchor's Aloft pt2
    King Miro's Journey
    Huntara
    Of Shadows and Skulls
    Return of the General
    Horde Prime Takes a Holiday
Again, I cannot remember the name, but it has a conversation like this:

Bow - "I'm glad you decided to come Adora."
Adora - "Oh, so you don't like She-Ra?"
Bow - "No, I think She-Ra is great."
Kowl - "Oh, so you don't like Adora?"
Bow - "No, I am happy to have Adora here."
Adora - "So you prefer me over She-Ra?"
    Bow - "Uh no."

Can someone PM me the US number for Matty? I want to talk to someone who might has a clue of what is going on.

For Filmation series, fans voted in official polls years ago to chose the 10 episodes of each to be included in the BCI Best of DVD:
The Best of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and The Best of She-Ra Princess of Power.

    Best of MOTU included:
    • Evilseed
    • Quest for He-Man
    • Prince Adam No More
    • Diamond Ray of Disappearence
    • Teela's Quest
    • Into the Abyss
    • Teela's Triumph
    • To Save Skeletor
    • The Problem With Power
    • Origin of the Sorceress

    Best of POP included:
    • The Secret of the Sword (theatrical version of the first 5 episodes)
    • Of Shadows and Skulls
    • Sweet Bee's Home
    • Horde Prime Takes a Holiday
    • The Stone in the Sword
    • The Price of Freedom.

Again, these were official polls done in partnership with BCI and had a large number of voters.

Im not too familiar with neither the Filmation episodes nor the NA cartoon, but Im pretty deep into the 200x MYP series, so heres a list of some mandatory episodes (and one or two personal highlights)

    1) The Courage of Adam (summarizes the whole story about Adam/He-Man and gives an interesting plot while at it)
    2) The deep End (not the most interesting plot, but it gives the characters (both good and evil) very important information concerning Castle Grayskull. Mandatory episode for the whole series)
    3) Sirens Song (I could have chosen Sky War to highlight the controversies between some characters fighting on the same side, but I really like this episode better, if only for Evil-Lyn showing first signs of plotting her own games.
    4) The ties that bind (Very important episode for the understanding of the relationship between Sorceress, Teela and Man-At-Arms (plus, it has a very mean cliffhanger-type of info, with Man-At-Arms wondering if Teela might in fact be his REAL daughter)
    5) Turnabout (Just a very funny episode and a highlight of the series just for that)
    6) Night of the Shadow Beasts (strong episode overall, with good action and pretty good character development)
    7) Trust (excellent episode, maybe one of the seriess best ones)
    8) Separation (actionpacked episode with first signs of Hordak, plus it explains why Eternia is divided into the light and dark hemisphere)
    9) The Price of Deceit (wonderful episode showing the history of Skeletor/Keldor and Evil-Lyn, one of the seriess highlights)
    10) The Power of Grayskull (while I have to admit its not the most interesting episode plot-wise, it is THE episode to watch when looking for history lessons for Eternia. Plus it has some very very strong moments)

There are at least 2 or 3 more episodes one should watch to get the gist of the whole series, but the above mentioned episodes pretty much sum up the history of Eternia as shown in the MYP series.
On sedond thought, I think there is not one single episode regarding the Snake Men in that list. Maybe cancel Turnabout and put in Snake Pit instead.
    Positivity, folks!
Lets all agree to love MOTU enough to let others love MOTU, too!

Thank you for asking us. It is much appreciated.

Hmm... they really should just watch all of the episodes eventually but a crash course is a good idea.

The newcomers should watch "The Secret of the Sword" in addition to the ten POP episodes. The movie is WAY too big a crossover to count as 5 of the POP episodes.

They should also watch the live-action movie... but only after they've watched ALL the animation... they need to understand that the live-action version isn't exactly the real deal...

    Anyway

    HE-MAN & THE MOTU

    To Save Skeletor
    The Rainbow Warrior
    The Witch and The Warrior
    Origin of the Sorceress
    The Problem With Power
    The Search
    The Shadow of Skeletor
Trouble in Trolla (gives a nice impression of Trolla and all of the Trollans are in the episode)
Search for the Past (King Miro)
    The Ancient Mirror of Avathar

    SHE-RA, POP

There are 11 here... I couldn't whittle this one down to 10 either... there are just too many important episodes and a lot of great origins... "Out of the Coccoon" is another great episode that has a MOTU flavor, but I didn't include it on the list.

-Sweet Bee's Home (Frosta, Mermista, Sweet Bee, He-Man, She-Ra - AWESOME)
-Assault on the Hive (He-Man, She-Ra, Comet Cat, Crystal Sundancer, Skeletor, Trap Jaw, Beast Man, Sweet Bee, Dinosorb - MOTU/POP awesomeness)
-The Sea Hawk (Sea Hawk's origin)
    -Enchanted Castle (Castaspella's origin)
-The Stone in the Sword (great episode that shows Adora's strength)
-The Eldritch Mist (Adam, Adora, Castaspella, Shadow Weaver)
-The Rock People (Rokkon, Stonedar, Granita)
    -Of Shadows & Skulls
-Flowers for Hordak (HILARIOUS... Mermista, Perfuma... gives you a great appreciation for the hippie chick that Perfuma is...)
-One to Count On (Catra, Entrapta, & Clawdeen stealing things and kidnapping people... also features Peekablue, Bow, Glimmer, Leech, etc.)
-When Whipsering Woods Last Bloomed (Netossa & Spinnerella)

Agreed. If this is about Mattel employees getting to know the brand, they really should just watch the multiple part episodes as one story in each case. There is a lot of history in the MYP series... it helps to further develop characters.

I couldn't wittle it down to 10... just watch all of these!

    MYP 200X

Oooh. I have to think about this for awhile, as my Top 10/Top 10 that I think others would like have changed a bit over the years.

*wonders what evil plot Mattel is planning with these episodes*

Yep, I think those are definitely the best choice for those episodes, unless we do a new set of polls now that the DVDs have been out there for years since the polls were done.

We could also do a MYP poll on the main page if it will help. It would definitely make sorting through everything a lot easier.

Great opportunity, thanks Scott. First thing to say is that each series had a different number of episodes, so narrowing down to ten is hard with the Filmation series, but easy with MYP's 200x, IMO.

    This, this, THIS!

"The Secret of the Sword" is simply the first five episodes condensed (it's all killer and no filler!). You don't need to watch the first five episodes as well. Mind you, I'd imagine you've seen SOTS already - it's She-Ra's origin and should be watched in addition to ten other She-Ra episodes. The same goes for "A Christmas Special".

As for He-Man, I'd go with the following from the Best Of:

    Evilseed
    Prince Adam No More
    Teela's Quest
    Into the Abyss
    Teela's Triumph
    To Save Skeletor
    Origin of the Sorceress
    The Problem With Power

    Add to that list:

The Cat and the Spider (a hugely under-rated episode, IMO)
The Rainbow Warrior (for 'Captain Glenn')

I don't think Quest for He-Man or Diamond Ray of Disappearance cut the mustard for a ten-best, personally.

For She-Ra, the five episodes on the second disc of her best-of are good candidates:

    Sweet Bee's Home
    Of Shadows and Skulls
    The Stone in the Sword
    Horde Prime Takes A Holiday
    The Price of Freedom

BUT...four out of the five are crossovers including He-Man. To show the series' best bits independent of him, watch:

A Loss for Words (sums up life on Etheria and their political struggle brilliantly, with a magical twist)
The Crystal Castle (SO epic and a great Shadow Weaver episode)
The Eldritch Mist (heck, you've included Shadow Weaver's spellbook from this very episode!)
Huntara (action-packed amazing-ness from the toughest gal next to She-Ra)
One To Count On (great identity crisis episode for Adora)

    For NA:

A New Beginning (where it all began)
Sword and Staff (witness Skeletor's transformation to the form he keeps for the rest of the series - I can't WAIT for Discs of Doom Skeletor!)
Juggernaut (sweet little girl ain't what she seems...she's a big hulking giant robot!)
Glastnost Shmashnost (a great example of the Mutants not keeping their word and we meet the Galactic Council - I wonder if Zodac would want to meet them?!)
You're In the Army Now (NA's defining identity crisis for He-Man - Adam becomes a great plot-device here)
Four Ways to Sundown (the same story told four different times from the perspectives of Slushhead, Flogg, Flipshot and Hydron - very funny!)
The Running of the Herd (great, emotion-filled walk through Sagitar's world)
Once Upon a Time (what did they do to Teela?! He-Man gets homesick)
Mutiny on the Mothership (the mutants aren't happy with Flogg - it's a good platform for Staghorn and sees Skeletor as 'one of the boys')
The Final Invasion (it's part of a five-parter, but you don't need to watch it all - just witness the heroes winning at last and Skeletor and Crita's relationship take a tumble!)

    For 200x:

The Ties That Bind (a beautiful episode retelling the story of the Sorceress and Teela. Prepare to blub!)
Lessons (we love Orko. This is why)
Separation (origin of the two halves of the planet and a good platform for Two Bad's tortured self)
The Council of Evil Parts 1 and 2 (Skeletor shows his true colours and welcomes some new friends to Snake Mountain)
The Last Stand (bye-bye Skeletor's new friends, hello to Evil-Lyn's quest for vengeance)
Out Of The Past (forgetting the stupid Slime Pit Monsters, this is great for the Sorceress)
Rise of the Snakemen Parts 1 and 2 (MYP got this so right - everything about it is excellent. Shame the rest of the Snakemen saga didn't match up)
The Price of Deceit (great Evil-Lyn saga, including her daddy)
History (Count Marzo vs. Evil-Lyn - yes please!)

    Phew!
Most-wanted MOTUC: Granita - Hunga the Harpy - The Melog - Melaktha - Vultak - Dylamug - Crita - Sprag, Sprocker and Spritina - the Twiggets King Ahgo

Also, not to go off track, I would highly recommend a perusal of the old minicomics...
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti
