    Answers to WTFWTK 2.66!

Mattel has once again provided answers to your questions.
Thanks again to them for taking the time to answer these!
Check out their answers to your Round 66 questions!

This round of questions were selected by midor.
Thanks to that fan for their help!

    -------------------

    1. coRobaczek: Instead of a whole Castle Grayskull could we get a facade with a working jaw bridge?

No. We discussed this and it would wind up being way more design work to attempt to build CG one piece at a time. If we ever do get to a play set it is all or nothing!

    2. Colgat20one: In the MOTUC bios She-Ra joins He-Man when going to the Tri-Solar System. Will there be a New Adventures She-Ra? And if so, since Teela is the new Sorceress in MOTUC, maybe She-Ra could look more like Teela's appearance in the NA cartoon so we get the best of both worlds?

A New Adventures She-Ra or Teela would be very cool. If and when they happen and what their look would be is yet to be revealed!

    3. Bamf1980: When planning your releases for Filmation characters, will you take into consideration the fact that many of the fan demanded MOTU Filmation characters had infrequent appearances, while several important members of the POP Filmation cast were previously unavailable to you and, therefore, us?

Yes, fans have been making wish lists for years and we are well aware of which characters fans want regardless of screen time.

    4. Grenadaspice: With Mattel acquiring the Filmation license, we could potentially get Skeletor's Robot Knights / Hover Robots. Is such a figure possible, especially for an army builder pack? If so, since it's a smaller figure, do you think we could get more than two in a pack?

We certainly do have rights to the Robot Knights. How they could show up is yet to be revealed. But one of the nice things about a non retail line is we have the freedom to change packaging and price points to suit the characters, not shelf space.

    5. Darkness: Does the recent Classic Media licensing deal also give you access to the characters from the Star/Marvel and UK comics?

UK is likely, Marvel is no at this time.

They clearly didn't understand what was being asked in question #1. The question wasn't asking if the castle would be divided into many pieces and sold individually. It was asking if they could just to a Castle Grayskull "facade" or in other words, just an exterior with a jawbridge that open and closes, as opposed to a full "playset" with things going on with the interior of it, etc.

I agree with you, but he did say it was all of Castle Grayskull or nothing. So in a way, he did answer the question.

I think they just meant it in terms that they just aren't splitting it into several pieces, not that they have a specific plan set in stone as to how it will be done if it ever does happen. I take the all or nothing comment to simply mean that they aren't selling it in separate pieces.

The Castle Grayskull answer comes across like this (to me):

We won't do that, because we want to re-issue it at retail when a movie comes out and we want to save money by not making two different ones.

UK comics are "likely." I wonder what that means? I wish we could get a list of MOTU/PoP/NA media they have the rights to. They have ALL the rights to the 200X stuff, so that's simple.

I never got my "Ask Matty" question answered about the Brazilian MOTU comics by Editora Abril.

    I think UK Comics being "Likely" means either;

    A) Something is already planned and they dont want to let anything out too early in way of a hint or confirmation

    or

    B) They dont really care so it doesnt matter.

I am not familiar with the comics beyond the Minicomics. Are there even any characters, particularly well known fan favourites from the UK comics?

    From Star/Marvel?

I'm certain this is mentioned elsewhere, but if they are like "guy in yellow in tug of war" then the answer is "No" .

If those are the kind of characters that are unique to the comics, I wouldnt think it's big news if they "had the rights" either.

Either way, it's an answer. Telling in it's vagueness.

I think the only property that has a sizeable fan base and good number of known characters of interest that is as yet confirmed UN-touchable is the Live Action Movie.

And frankly, other than getting Karg I dont really care all that much about that. all in all the comics from (nation of origin) are really a non issue. I'll bet they can make who they want to make, outside of the moive, now.

Horde Prime became fair game when Filmation access was granted

At Matypalooza panel, you talk to us about potential characters from Filmation (Lizard Man, Sea Hawk...) and from Comics (Goat Man (Golden Book), Strobo (UK Magazine/US Motu magazine) ...).

Does this unlock the following appearance of Horde Prime ?
Will "Horde Prime" replaced "Horde Supreme" in your bios/canon ?

    Good question!

Yes, the "Horde Supreme" mentioned on some bios is going to be Horde Prime going forward. They were both intended to be the same character - the leader of the Horde Empire and older brother to Hordak.

Just what he will look like if he ever makes it into the line is yet to be determined!

Hmmm ... am no fan of UK version of Horde Prime (in fact I don't like the whole Horde Prime concept cos Hordak is the ruthless leader of the Horde in my world - but I especially not a fan of UK Prime).

If Matty decide they have to make this version of HP, I hope they use the mind-controlling parasite story where the parasite is the real Horde leader just using Hordak's brother as a host. Could be a way to explain the different looks Filmation vs UK.

Now that SDCC and Power Con are over, of course, Mattel is back with more uninformative answers...

I guess we can sleep until February 2012 and NYCC, now ?

Not really sure why Mattel isn't sure if they have the rights or not to the UK stuff; maybe nobody has read the fine print yet?

UK comics rights would also give them the right to the "Light Spinner" name that was formerly Shadow Weaver's before she was transformed by the Horde.

I don't mean any disrespect to anyone of a contrary opinion, but if we do get a Horde Prime figure, I hope it looks NOTHING like that UK comic. That design was utterly ridiculous and insulting for a character that is supposed bigger and badder than Hordak and Skeletor combined.

    Bingo.

As a child, I was utterly disgusted by the UK comics Horde Prime, so much so, I had my parents cancel my subscription.

Other than saying no to the Star comics (what does he mean UK is likely? It's likely that they have rights, or it's likely we'll see figures based on those charactrs?)....I don't think he actually answered a single question.

    Um, heh.

Well, even though I had all of the comics until it turned into NA, I STILL loathed Hordak's big brother.

And I hated most of the art work.

Really, I only got the comics because I was sick of the Filmation repeats.

But, finally, NA totally killed off my MOTU love. For a whole decade.

I could accept the UK Horde Prime being an avatar for the REAL Horde Prime, a vehicle of sorts he uses to interact more personally with smaller/lesser beings such as Skeletor and Hordak, but not his TRUE form. THAT would be the Filmation design.

    I appreciate this answer.

Maybe I read it wrong but it almost seemed as if the question was implying that because the MOTU fan demanded characters had less appearances than the POP ones, then that meant the POP should get top priority. Whether the fan demand was there or not.

The Marvel and UK comic question was the first question I've had picked and answered, it's kinda cool

I, like the rest of you, find the answer Mattel gave very unusual. How do they "likely" have the rights? Oh well, I guess we'll find out eventually huh? I've never read the UK stuff but I'm very excited that they (potentially) have the rights. I'm all for expanding the MOTU universe

Too bad about the Marvel rights, I guess I'll have to keep wishing for a Lt. Andra.

I totally agree with this! I said something very much like this in another thread way back when. No, the UK Horde Prime isnt the best design but he's become iconic to many fans in this form and I think deserves to be made and the explaination above allows both to be made, it's perfect.
