Alternate Heads: Does Horde Prime break Mattel's "rule"

While there are no clear views of Horde Prime's red, Hordak-like, head, it's clear that it in no way resembles the [white] UK comic head which is also included:

Doesn't this break the same "rule" as Whiplash, that all heads intended for the same character should be based on the same design - Adam's scowling & smirking faces, BGEL's helmetless & hair, even Fisto where TG was at pains to stress that his heads differed only in the headband.

i thought the rule only applied to 200X styling. Vintage is fair game I guess.

I thought Horde Prime had two of everything...even two heads...

    So...he needs both.

All I can say is that if all future figures have so many options (2 different faces, and a helmet), I'll probably start buying multiples again !

The rule was: all characters will no longer get 200X heads for the sake of having 200X heads unless they are different enough. I think that rule is going away though, thank goodness! People want extra heads.

Since he is Hordak's older brother, it makes sense to get a head which bears family resemblance, while not being the same (in my opinion).

Anyway, no matter what rules they still have or do not have, all I know is to me: multiple heads = happier customers (they can choose both and buy two figures or choose the one the like most).

Also, maybe he was sculpted as "Horde Supreme" at the time and they did not have the rights to the UK comic. After gaining access to Filmation through Classic Media, that allows them to also use the UK comic stuff. So that head could have come later.

What this means is Mattel had orginally planned to re-release all those characters with the requested head as different releases thus meaning another $20 from us loyal fans. I think with the inclusion of Filamation they have realised they can't stretch the line with these variants and therefore a lot of characters are going to come with their extra head.

I just hope this brings good news for Rio Blast so we can get both looks

Maybe the story will explain why he has two looks. Maybe he was more human looking originally then became demonic looking through magic.
I think it was in MVC I read somewhere that they planned for Horde Prime to have a humanoid body but then be killed by the ancients or whoever and his spirit take on a cybernetic body.

I'd love an in canon explanation for Prime's 2 looks. I have a hard time with Mer-Man and Whiplash because there's no real in canon reason for their two looks. I like to say that Skeletor cast spells on them as disguises to infiltrate their respective societies...
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

I like to think of them as other members of their species.

Perhaps Horde Prime's appearance changed after he began to develop more dark powers, turning his "comic book" face into a demonic face. Same goes for Hordak - perhaps their species could resemble the comic book version of Horde Prime, and they transformed after their dark magic powers increased.

HAHAHAHA well said with the question at hand, I too felt like it pertained to the 200x heads, not vintage heads.

Rules don't apply if the head will totally break from the figure's color scheme. At least, that's what I get from Horde Prime...

The only rules and restrictions this line has is what Mattel itself places on it. That's what has always been so frustrating about the 200x head ban.

There was never any legitimate reason not to give us 200x alt heads and the 200x Keldor swords. We're adults and we are not confused by alternate heads or anime hyper detail.

The extra heads make the figures better and make more people happy. We're paying for the figures and keeping this little line going by our support. Give us the 200x and alt heads we want. It should be a no-brainer.

Banning the 200x heads was a ridiculous and pointless fight Mattel started with its own customers in my opinion. It need never have happened.

Why is it when I look at Horde Primes head he reminds me of Jitsu? With the way Mattel reuses they will probably repaint his head for Jitsu.

The only rule Mattel should have:

Make awesome figures that make us foam at the mouths and throw money at them like they're strippers!
