SDCC Exclusive Evolution - 2012 Speculation

2008 - King Grayskull, Bronze Statue King Grayskull (random chase version), Spirit of King Grayskull (auction) included in display box that looked like Castle Grayskull and included lights and sound. Great way to launch the possibilty of a new line. Available only at SDCC.

2009 - He-Ro. Concept figure that originally didn't make it past the prototype stage. Three different randomly selected color stones (red, green, purple) for his staff. SDCC exclusive version included SDCC stamped on chest under the armor. Online version had no stamp.

2010 - Orko with Prince Adam. In scale Orko and friendly face for Adam. SDCC version Orko would "turn invisible" with change in temperature and "SDCC" would appear on spell book with change in temperature. Online version had no "invisibility" powers.

Mo-Larr vs. Skeletor - First normal-sized figure 2-pack in the line. Based off the Robot Chicken skit. No difference in the online version.

2011 - Queen Marlena / Captain Glenn with Cringer. First time that Queen Marlena and Cringer have a figure made. SDCC version was packed out as Queen Marlena with her Captain Glenn components and Cringer included below, also has unique bio about being Queen. Online version was packed out as Captain Glenn with her Queen Marlena components and Cringer included below, also has unique bio about being Captain Glenn.

Polly Pocket 3-Pack - She-Ra, Frosta, and Catra. POP characters done in the Polly Pocket line. No difference in the online version.

2012 - Only $30 price point given, the pack out will be the differences between the SDCC and Matty versions (like Marlena), and the highest piece count ever in MOTUC. Speculation is that collectors will probably want both SDCC & online versions, has multiple pieces, and is 30th Anniversary appropriate....

After SDCC 2011, I hoped for a Stinkor/Odiphus pack similar to the Queen Marlena/Captain Glenn pack with differing bios for each, but when Stinkor was announced as the April 2012 (WOO-HOO!) figure my thought process had to change. With the announcement of Filmation rights the options for figures almost seem limitless. My current thoughts are:

Exclusive/Online character - Evilseed with 2 heads (Filmation and 200X) and a robe (similar to Queen Marlena's dress) to match the Filmation head. He would be packed out at SDCC as the Filmation version and as the 200X version online. Each would have their own unique (but connected) bios like Queen Marlena / Captain Glenn. He would also include an articulated (possibly fully) Odiphus. I chose Odiphus because 1. I love Stinkor, 2. he seems to be one of the most popular little characters, 3. he's evil (like Evilseed), and 4. the Odiphus staction was included with an evil warrior other than Stinkor in the 200X staction line (Jitsu).

As for another SDCC exclusive that doesn't change when offered online. I like the idea of a small vehicle (i.e. Laserbolt, Road Ripper, etc.)

As a collector that has not been able to go to any cons, I would like to see Mattel do no more special version exclusives (Orko) and only packaging exclusives (Marlena).

    Thoughts?

i think with it being 30th anniversary year, it will be something big ... but, what? i have no idea ...

i hope it's modulok or multi-bot, but then i hoped that this year too ...

trouble is, nothing is really exclusive anymore as you can buy all the stuff online after the show ... so i would be happy with anything as at least i will still have the choice/chance to buy it ...

I think something like Modulok or a two pack like Captain Randor & Battle Armor Marlena would be special.

Also Galactic Protector He-Man, Gwildor, Madame Razz, Broom & Kowl would be cool.

I would like to see Imp as exclusive for 2012... with a lot of the objects he transformed into and a filmation coloured Hordak as accessory (similar to Adam/ Orko)

i'd been under the impression that they'd have some pretty sweet classics stuff on offer for sdcc 2012 for the 30th; but with all the pull back on expanding the line, i'm not expecting much anymore.

All previous SDCC exclusives have been relevant and known characters so far,
so I'm sure Mattel is trying to continue in that perspective.

I think a Multi-Pack with the little guys would be perfect for the 30th anniversary!
Since the SDCC price can be anything, it's possible!
    A $40 5-Pack would be reasonable imo

I was actually thinking about this the other day. At first I thought that Modulok or Multibot would be a good exclusive, but would they really release another Horde figure so soon after Horde Prime?

The Evil Seed pack-out seems like a good idea, too!

that is a very good point, we have had a horde heavy end to 2011 and horde prime and shadow weaver are 2 of next years biggest draws ... but i guess we have to get to them all eventually ...

I would like to see the SDCC exclusive be something that looked so cool that it blew away all of the con goers, not just MOTU fans.
Obscure, fan-demanded figures are for the subscription. The SDCC exclusive is when the brand has the spotlight and can really make an impression on the nerd world, as a whole.

At first, I thought Horde Troopers 2 pack or Modulok... but then seeing that the SDCC item(s?) were coming so soon after A-list Horde characters like Shadow Weaver and Horde Prime, I must admit I don't really have a clue about next year's exclusives....

Could it be characters who had a prototype but no figure (Darius? Eldor? Mara?) or a Filmation two pack (Madame Razz and Broom? / Kowl and Lookee?)?.....

I think Madame Razz, Broom & Kowl. The SDCC version will have yellow toy accurate Kowl and the Matty version will have his Filmation colors.

It probably won't happen with 2012 being the 30th anniversary for MOTU, but it's high time we got a PoP exclusive. And not, I'm not talking about that Polly Pocket thing. I mean a MOTUC PoP exclusive, like Madam Razz and Broom, Imp and FILMation Hordak, Mermista with tail and legs, Scorpia and Octavia 2-pack, etc.

I'm surprised at how much I love this idea. Great idea, Moviefreak!
Not to sound like a creepy cheerleader for Uki, but it's nice to know there is at least one person on this forum who is extremely positive & friendly all the time. I don't think I could be that nice even if you paid me. If we ever give out awards for "forum member of the month", Uki gets my vote. -Mr. Shokoti

I honestly cant even imagine. I was sure that the 200x SDCC would be a He-Man buck figure, so they could use the statue again. heh.

Marlena supprised me. Not alot, but some. I like that she was like Adam/Orko and a figure with a buddy. I would like them to keep that up.

I would be excited to get our first Villain SDCC exclusive. I am ok with them doing different things in the SDCC version versus the online version. If I really need it I am satisfied that I can get the SDCC version on Ebay If I think it's worth the money, or on the '.org Marketplace.

I could see Modulok being there because he may just be big enough to warrent the 25 dollar "Figure and friend" like the last 2 years, but not so big as to be a "large scale beast". I dont see that however.

I kinda think they'll do a FIlmation thing. WHo? I've no idea.

There are a few rumors... But I suspect more than one exclusive because of the Anniversary.

My dream would be for there to be an exclusive that represented each part of the mythos. A MOTU, a POP, a NA, a 200X, a Filmation, a mini-comics one. Hey, DCUC just got a TWELVE pack of figures. Why can't we?!

Back to reality... Here is a combo list of my ideas and rumors:

    - Roger Sweet concept He-Men

    - Darius

    - Darius & Mara

    - Filmation colors Hordak (salvaged from the unreleased final DCUC/MOTUC 2-pack) & Imp with his different forms

    - Madame Razz & Broom

    - The Fighting Foe Men (a two or three pack of various concept characters or nameless characters from box art)

    - Modulok

    - Multi-pack of little guys (Odiphus, Kowl, Loo-Kee, Uncle Montork, Dree-Elle, etc)

    - Force Captain Adora & Spirit

    - barefoot barbarian He-Man

Really, there haven't been many rumors. I'm sure they'll do their best to thwart the rumor-mill (which I think is a mistake as it just helps to create buzz).

Honestly, I'd love for them to be able to surprise ME.

I'm thinking it will be Modulok or perhaps Madam Razz and Broom. Something that follows the bigger inclusions. Heck I would be happy with a Kowl/LooKee/Imp three pack. I hope we don't have to wait for the POP 30th to get them. But, as stated before, with it being the MOTU 30th, I figure it will be something cool like Modulok. Or maybe, they will blow us all away with Ram Man. That would be the ultimate, and he would fit the "bigger" lot all by himself.

Since Odiphus didn't get released with Stinkor, I'd save him for when Prahvus gets released. They did have a scenetogether in the 200X cartoon and I'd rather him come packed with a character that actually makes sense. Plus, I'm am not sure what accessories Prahvus would come with, so it might work out (budget-wise) to have him come with Odiphus.

I'd like to see the exclusive be either Modulok, with all his 22 pieces, and the con version having and exclusive "baggie" of NEW sculpted pieces to add to his configurations. Kinda like the con version of Swamp Thing had the baggie of Un-Men.

My other suggestion would be a Slime Pit diorama, with a Slime Pit He-Man variant and jar of slime for the SDCC exclusive. And, for the attendees, maybe it can have the 200X bone mutant.

I thought the blue was either a rumor or a custom.. or both? I didn't think it was a legit release. If it was.. well I've another staff to hunt down.

There are several custom variations, but the only Mattel released gems were green (Stone of Protection), red (Stone of Defense), and purple (Stone of Healing).

I hated that Toyguru called the green one "Protection" and the red one "Defense."

They are kind of the same thing aren't they?
