Warner Archive said this on their Facebook page in regards to whether Centurions will still be released this year:

We're still working on that. We hope to make it by Xmas. We've been delayed by film element problems. However, there's still a good chance we may have the issues resolved shortly.
Seeing how Silverhawks was released, I'd now guess they'll do two 4 disc sets with the first set being released late this year or early next year.

"Film elements" could very well mean "tape". Never assume verbage in a brief press release means anything.

It won't be remastered. WB doesn't remaster cartoons for their archive program.

We have a set and it is about as close to retail as we will ever get I believe. But a great site with much of the info about the series.
Spiral Zone is one of my favorite 80s cartoons and I'm very happy I bought this set when it was still available. They did an excellent job.

    Good news.

This was one of those shows that I loved but it seemed nobody else did.

I remember finding all of the figures and accessories on clearance at TRU once. I literally bought everything I still needed to complete the line plus extra drones.

They remastered GoBots and will Tarzan and at least one of the Gilligan cartoons from what they've said in the past. I'd be a little surprised if Centurions is remastered, though.

That was the miniseries, have they announced they are going to remaster the whole series?

They've said a couple times on twitter they plan to. I suppose things could change, but I believe that is still the plan.

Yes, I asked them again about it recently and they reiterated its coming and it will be remastered.

I think they are trying to determine how best to break up the series into releases since this will be the first big series they have released on demand. Silverhawks V2 seems to have went from what I can tell so releasing 1/2 of series has at least some precedence for them now.

But to be honest Gobots is a bigger license then Centurions imho, with the Transformers going strong it has to the potential to cross sell a lot better than a license and toy line that was basically a one shot in the 80's (despite the fact I love the cartoon and own almost all the toys).

They only remaster series with film elements available. Which could be Centurions' case.

EDIT: that's what JOHN T claimed on the Shout! Factory message board:

"Yeah, unlike many other 1980s animated series, I'm pretty sure Warners does indeed retain the original film elements. The series, when originally broadcast, clearly featured video masters wherein the film-to-video transfer was noticeably grainy and the picture had that dark, soft look present in many contemporary series, like how most of the 80s DIC shows still look, for instance (owing to the junking/misplacing of the original film elements).

When Centurions was rolled up into the "Hanna-Barbera" library around the early-to-mid 1990s, resulting in the removal of the original Ruby-Spears logo after the end credits, the series had clearly been re-transferred from the original prints, as the picture quality was now, in comparison to how it appeared in the 1980s and early 1990s, pretty much crystal-clear."

If they do remaster I will be ecstatic but at this point I would be very pleased with a straight transfer like they have done with Silverhawks, Thundarr and most of their animated library.

5 questions for 'Centurions: Power X Treme' fans

To celebrate the upcoming release of the best and greatest cartoon ever conceived and produced in human history (M.A.S.K. is #2) I have now some questions for you fans (fans like me):

1- What year is 'Centurions' set? Wondering if they ever mentioned that throughout the series. I don't remember they ever did that anyway.

2- How can a Centurion control his weapon systems? I'm wondering if he can control it: 1) via helmet (now I don't remember if the weapon system is still functioning when the Centurion removes his helmet) 2) via Exo-Frame (the suit) as neural connection (I guess so).

3- Is teleportation only possible for a Centurion and his weapon system, or that is a viable process for anyone and anything? During the series, I can only see teleportation of Centurions and releated weapon systems. So it must be something connected to the Exo-Frame (again LOL).

4- What episode were Rex Charger and John Thunder introduced?

5- How the Centurions are referred to in terms of field "differentiation"? Ace: "Centurion of the Air" or "Air Centurion"? Max: "Centurion of Water" or "Centurion of Sea"? Rex: "Centurion of Energy" or "Energy Centurion"?

Hey, what about Filmation's Ghostbusters and Baldios?

Only joking! Lots of good questions on Centurions there, so I'll do my best to answer them all as a big fan of the series myself!

In the series itself, they never specified a date. This was undoubtedly done deliberately to ensure the series wouldn't be out-of-date too badly compared to other series, like the later episodes of Transformers or Robotech, which were set in specific years in the future that are already now in the past (in real life).

Circumstantial evidence in a couple of episodes points to the series being set no earlier than the mid-21st Century. The UK comics and annuals simply set the series 100 years from when it was made, i.e. 2086, which seems to be as good a date as any.

I can't honestly recall any specifics on this in the cartoon, but the UK comic stated that they controlled their weapons cybernetically, with their minds. It's also worth remembering that a few of the weapons systems configurations didn't actually have helmets, so they could certainly use them without!

It was supposed to only be possible with anyone wearing an Exo-Frame, such as the Centurions themselves, or a Beaming Harness, like Crystal or occasionally Jake's dog Shadow.

Now this is an awkward one! Their first chronological appearance is in the five-part story "Man or Machine", where they are seen recruited into the Centurions' team. However, although this story was in fact the final one produced and indeed the final one that actually aired, the two new Centurions also appeared in several episodes produced and aired before this story. Obviously set after "Man or Machine", the first of the episodes to air with them were "Zone Dancer", with John Thunder, and then "Firecracker", with both John and Rex Charger.

Taken from the toys and numerous episodes:

    Max: Sea Operations Specialist
    Ace: Air Operations Specialist
    Jake: Land Operations Specialist
    John: Infiltration Operations Specialist
    Rex: Energy Operations Specialist

I hope my answers were of some assistance!

Hahah "Baldios" trascends the cartoon genre, so I think it's not anymore a cartoon but an EPIC romance.

In regards to your meaningful answers (thank you!):

I remember they were often mentioned in such way as "The Centurion of Air" and other expressions along those lines... I don't remember they were called "Specialists" at all but I could be very wrong about this.

As for Rex and John, I remember they were properly introduced at the beginning of an episode (Rex used that wacko energy system to COOK a piece of beef!) and it was very cool. So it's legit to think the episodes are out of order... how many episodes featuring the two new Centurions anyway? Hopefully at least 20, they kick ass.

According to your answer, the episodes should be:

    "Zone Dancer" (11/10/86)
    "Firecracker" (11/11/86)
    "Traitors Three" (11/12/86)
    "You Only Love Twice" (11/13/86)
    "Sungrazer" (11/14/86)
    "Novice" (11/17/86)
    "Breakout" (11/18/86)
    "Atlantis Adventure" (11/19/86—Part 1 of 2)
    "Atlantis Adventure" (11/20/86—Part 2 of 2)
    "Ghost Warrior" (11/21/86)
    "Let the Lightning Fall" (11/24/86)
    "Cyborg Centurion" (11/25/86)
    "Day of the Animals" (11/26/86)
    "To Dare Dominion" (11/27/86—Part 1 of 2)
    "To Dare Dominion" (11/28/86—Part 2 of 2)
"Hole in the Ocean" (12/1/86—Part 1 of 2)
"Hole in the Ocean" (12/2/86—Part 2 of 2)
    "The Better Half" (12/3/86—Part 1 of 2)
    "The Better Half" (12/4/86—Part 2 of 2)
    "Revenge" (12/5/86)
    "Man or Machine" (12/8/86—Part 1 of 5)
    "Man or Machine" (12/9/86—Part 2 of 5)
    "Man or Machine" (12/10/86—Part 3 of 5)
    "Man or Machine" (12/11/86—Part 4 of 5)
    "Man or Machine" (12/12/86—Part 5 of 5)

It depends on how it was translated. There was some variation in the descriptions given. The ones that appeared on the toys' packaging were exactly as follows:

    Max: Sea Operations Expert
    Ace: Air Operations Expert
    Jake: Land Operations Expert
    Rex: Energy Expert

John's had his title on his prototype packaging, but it's not legible on the one picture available.

Yeah, from "Zone Dancer" onwards is when the two new Centurions start making appearances (by original airdate order), but they only make further appearances in "Firecracker", "Breakout", "Ghost Warrior", "Let the Lightning Fall", "To Dare Dominion Parts 1 and 2", and "Hole in the Ocean Parts 1 and 2".

With Centurions, neither the original airdate or production order makes much sense when taking into account both the appearances of the new Centurions, and the newer weapons systems that some of the original Centurions used.

Cartoon Network U.S. used to have their own broadcast order, which was the one that probably made the most sense chronologically, although they still placed "Man or Machine" at the end of the series.

    ... and 'MAN OR MACHINE'.
So they just appeared on: 14 episodes.
Too bad, because I always found Rex Charger being a fascinating character.

PLUS, I've always thought the title was "Centurions: Power X Treme". THE Centurions is kinda redundant... or not?

My only questions about this show for years were what the heck was MAKO supposed to have been before he was a cyborg and where was HIS action figure?

Thus they solved the issue they had.

I'm sure the remastering will be wonderful.

Centurions is top notch stuff by default anyway.

$14.95 used to be the regular price for these types of sets, but now they just permanently have it "on sale" for $14.95 and are therefore discounted further less often. I don't really care for them milking it for 3 sets instead of 2. I can live with it for GoBots since I am a big enough fan and it was remastered, but I'm not as into Centurions.

It says it isn't remastered on the page.

Yeah its odd because I don't even remember Centurions airing as a mini-series first

At least with Gobots I remember the 2 mini-series and then the series
