If YOU had the power to choose the 6 figures for the 30th Anniversary Line...

    I'm just curious...

If YOU were in command for choosing the 6 figures for the 30th Anniversary Collection, which figures would you launch and why? Would you choose the same path that's been chosen or would you choose a different one?

    Any thoughts?
What the heck, I am just another rebel!

i would have gone for the people originally associated with the figures and filmation cartoons; but TG already said that's what he wanted to do and 'upper management' killed the idea bcs they'd rather promote/support employees of mattel.

Christina Aguilera is supposed to be a fan haha.

I myself really like Draego and Photog. Spector is nice but certainly not great. I love the design of Marvel's character Deadpool, so why should I hate Spector's design?
So I'm fine with what has been shown so far.

But if I had to decide what kind of 30 anniversary characters were gonna be made, I'd definately include a new Snakeman.

I would go for 'pseudo' -new characters. Characters never made into a figure, but not entirely new.

Fearless Photog is a good example

    others:

Songster, Illumina, obscure mini-comic or concept characters...

They kind of defeated this purpose by already making Vikor, Gygor, Preternia He-Man etc. in the regular line. (love those figs though...)

Here's what I would have done:
Figure #1: A Vintage Concept Character or obscure Mini Comic Variant (as a New Character) that did not make it into the line. Something like Vikor or Demo-Man (Obviously not Vikor or Demo-Man since they're coming out in the normal line) Songster is a huge contender for this spot (due to being a part of the He-Man She-Ra Power Tour)

Figure #2: Fearless Photog for being the Winner of the 80s Contest

Figure #3: A 200X Concept Character or Obscure Mini Comics Character that did not make it into the line. I'd probably pick Josh (adding some weapons and more interesting story for him)

Figure #4: A New Adventures Concept Character that did not make it into the line. Probably Darius

Figure #5: A PoP Concept Character or Obscure MVCreations Character that did not make it into the line. (Illumina is the most likely choice that I'd pick)

Figure #6: The winner of the New Contest.

FINALLY!! GLIMMER IS IN MY SHELF!! Now I need a Crita!! Crita is to Mara what Evil Lyn is to Teela. If we ARE getting Mara, then we NEED Crita.

Assuming the characters had to be original creations as the official six will be, I would pick characters from my fan fiction on my site.

I have a few favourites, such as Sharm, Morceg and Bahkrullus from the minicomics (although Bahkrullus would have to be a giant so he probably wouldn't count), and Levyek, the Oracle of Eldor and Taranis from the Grayskull Saga (although Taranis is a centaur so he probably wouldn't count either).

Had the contest been open to people outside the US, I might have submitted some of these.

If I were picking, I would have made Photog, four more figure based on the original 80s create-a-character contest submissions (with Horsemen improvements/modifications as necessary on some of the non-Photog ones), and a final figure for the winner of this year's contest.

Filmation characters, concept characters, and even more obscure characters from other media would make great figures, but I don't see why we shouldn't be getting a healthy dose of those in the base line already. I think they were spot on with the Anniversary line's focus on brand new characters that would have zero chance of getting made otherwise (although their specific choices to date, outside of Photog, differ a wee bit from mine).

I would let the 4 HM do the design for all 6 figures.

They proved with Draego Man, that they understand the concept and the image of MOTU with creating some more barbaric, half human/half beast character with armor & weapons.

And i wanted them to make Might- Bite, I think a Horde shark-creature would kick rear ends

If I had the power, I would get Bruce Timm, Larry Ditillio, Mark Taylor, Roger Sweet, the four horsemen and Earl Norem to design the figures.

I would've skipped making 6 additional figures and would've gone ahead and built the Castle Grayskull instead.

Celebrating 30 years should be big! and nothing says "Happy 30th anniversary MOTUC" better than Castle *friggin* Grayskull!

I'd try to pick something to represent all eras of MOTU. I'd go w/ something never made before mostly. I'd still give the 4H a spot because they deserve it the most for revamping this line twice.

    Fig 1 - Photog (MOTU)

Fig 2 - Shadow Weaver (POP)

Fig 3 - Mara or Darius (NA)

    Fig 4 - Eldor (POG)

    Fig 5 - Illumina or Pravius (200x)

Fig 6 - Darego Man (MOTUC)

I'd make the winner a seperate figure initself.

i would go with photog and 5 other figures that were either never released or only seen on official motu packaging. like the wind raider pilot. eldor would probably be in my 30th release since they actually planned on releasing him at some point, but never did. these wouldn't be super popular figs (like shadow weaver). these would be aimed at the hardcore fans.

I love it. For the price of the 6 figs we are almost there w/ the price.

If I'd had the possibility to release 6 30th anniversary figures, here's what I'd have brought up :

    1) Fearless Photog

    2) A totally new, awesome and unexpected avil warrior figure (Draego Man fits perfectly !)

    3) Eldor (an 80's POG prototype that begs to be released in plastic glory)

    4) Mara or Crita (female NA figures; Mara only existed as a prototype)

    5) Madam Razz and Broom (very important POP characters who REALLY need to be produced as toys ! These would make a perfect 30th anniversary combo !)

    6) A new awesome snakeman (or snakewoman)

I too would rather have seen the creators from the 80s line brought in to design some new figures, rather than Geoff Johns etc.

I also have a hard time believing Toyguru's claim that upper management vetoed the idea, since they already commissioned some new Rudy Obrero art for the Wind Raider box. Why didn't they simply use current Mattel artists for that job if they're so keen on promoting their own employees?

They could have gone retail with it and make it like $80 - $100 collector's edition, maybe a retailer exclusive, I would have tried for that in the real world.

Earl Norem Painted box art, MVC produced comic on the history of Grayskull, etc.

Enough with obscure / made up characters... I mean, it's fine to get a Vikor or a Star Sister 3 pack every once in a while, I'm all up for it...

... But for a 30th anniversary commemoration of a toyline, I think we should get figures of our most beloved characters as opposed to a line up of nobodies that weren't even there 30 years ago and that we have zero nostalgic connection with.

It''s the 30th anniversary of the friggin' Masters of the Universe! I would have solely based the 6 figure line ups on the two medias we had 30 years ago: the filmation cartoon, and the mini comics.

Here's what they SHOULD have done:

1- Most requested figure ever: Shadow Weaver.

    2. Deluxe Filmation He-man / She-ra box set - Two super jointed figures with Filmation head sculpt, better wrist joints allowing to be packaged in their transforming pose!

    3. Temple of Darkness Sorceress. (just cause that would have been very appropriate for a 30th anniversary line.

    4. Oolar / Mini-comics He-man (the barefoot He-man from mini comics every one wants)

    5. Filmation Blue Hordak - with sculpted bones and a few arm attachements.

    6. Special 4 packs with Imp / D'relle / Lookie / Kowl

I would have set up three massive cork boards: one with pictures of animals, one with pictures of jobs and warriors, and one with pictures of weapons (with some random kitchen utensils thrown in for good measure). Everyone in the office would get a chance to toss darts at the boards; one choice for animal, job/warrior, and weapon/thing. Do this six times and collect the random choices and mash them together to create the six figures. What's that you say? The darts landed on a giraffe, a garbage man, and a flour sifter? MAKE IT SO.

And Toyguru is FULL of... SASSINESS lol...

    Just being FUNNY.

I think I posted what I would have planned a while back, but here goes:

    1) Photog... totally appropriate and a great idea

    2) 4H figure... which turned out to be Draego-Man, which is also super-appropriate

    3) Winner of Fan-Created-Character contest... doing this contest again was also a great idea... though, of course it's going to be SCOTT and BILL's choice... I mean, let's be realistic, we know how they work.

    4) Illumina... not just because she was created by the MVC MOTU Comic team, but also because making her represents the reclaiming of lost opportunity, which is what MOTUC is about in many ways.

    5) Shadow Weaver... because she represents Filmation and she was the most requested figure... and because she'd be AVAILABLE to EVERYONE, not just subscribers

    6) Pre-Filmation Mini-Comics He-Man with new head, interchangeable furry loincloth (like Fisto has, but the removable part would look like the loincloth from the first page of the first mini-comic). He'd have bare feet and rubber pull-on boots. He'd have the rest of the weapons shown in the panel where the Goddess gives him his armory... and he'd come with Gorpo (he'd be $25).
A Want List of Sorts: Angella, Sssqueeze, Blast Attack, Multi-Bot, Peekablue, Veena, Calix, Evilseed, Mara, Point Dread & The Talon Fighter... and all the other POP & NA characters.

I'm really interested in getting new characters in MOTUC, so I'm glad they went that way with this line. Photog and Draego look fantastic and Spector is growing on me. I have high hopes for Johns' and Terry's and the new fan choice figure. So far the only thing I'd wish different is Spector was a little more appealing to me and more on par with Draego (for my taste, he's not there). That could change if I don't care for the other three characters.

I could see it making a lot more sense to celebrate the origins of the line with some concept figures or mini-comics or filmation versions, but that would be a lot less interesting to me personally.

I actually don't know them. I've met both at cons, but wouldn't say I know the men or 'how they work' when it comes to something such as this. Are the events that tell you 'how they work' a matter of public record or are you drawing on some personal experience with the men? Because I honestly have no idea as to what you are refering to here.

I would NOT have gone with new characters. I would have used some of our most-beloved existing characters to celebrate the 30th anniversary of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe!!!

    1) He-Man/ Skeletor 2-pack
    2) MEN of MOTU: He-Man/ Man-At-Arms/ Skeletor/ Hordak/ King Hiss 5-pack
    3) WOMEN of MOTU: Sorceress/ Teela/ Evil-Lyn/ She-Ra 4-pack
    4) Ram-Man
    5) Mekaneck
    6) Stinkor
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

For the 30th anniversary I would have done something that celebrates the roots of the line, like making exact copies of the four-figure series as shown on the original cardback:

The fifth figure would have been Fearless Photog and the sixth would have been the piece de resistance that everyone has been asking for since the line began, Castle Grayskull. Barring that, a Battle Ram like the one shown at the con would have been appropriate.

i see a lot of people choosing shadow weaver and other must haves. the reason i think non-must haves are the way to go is the so people don't have to feel compelled to get both subs in order to complete their collections. only the hardcore collectors would have to get the 2 subs.

if shadow weaver was in the 30th, not everyone would be able to get her. i personally probably couldn't afford 2 subs (and that's one of the reasons i didn't get the 30th...the other being i'm not that enthusiastic about photog or draego).
