Well, if this was Mattel Joe would go away for 10 years. At least Hasbro will try again.

Still, this was very 11th hour. The movie was about to premier in a month.

The only reason it got delayed was they got too scared at how bad Spider-Man will destroy it's box office after the 1st 3 days...

Hasbro's been mishandling G.I. Joe for years now. In a way I think this is on purpose just because I really do believe Brian Goldner hates the brand. They didn't have Renegades toys out until the show was over with, and now they will have no toys for the next few months unless they really think stores will stock a movie line with no movie. But between the way they ignore successful brands, push for bad directors to make their films, and revive brands that should stay buried, plus treating their fans like they don't really exist, I just think this company is run by incompetence and they make money despite that incompetence.

I'm not even surprised, I expected them to pull some stunt with this film. It's accurate to the source, characters look like their counterparts, and I just didn't think they'd give it a chance, what with Transformers and Dark Knight being nothing like their source and doing so well. Seems any film that's too much like the source- Hellboy, Ghost Rider, whatever- is usually not treated well by these movie studios. I suspected they'd just claim the movie didn't do well and failed, but this was something new.

I don't want to see it in 3D. I don't want to spend an extra 4 bucks on the ticket to see effects forced into a format they were not originally intended for. It didn't work for Clash of the Titans and it won't work here!

And if they do any reshoots then they'd better not change the good stuff that I've heard. e.g:

Storm Shadow turns good and teams up with Snake Eyes against Zartan

Give Jinx more screen time, that I'll accept.

If the movie is so bad that they think a month-old Avengers or Spider-Man could overpower it at the BO like happened to Battleship, is there really anything to salvage in a year of post? Transformers 2 was bad but it got released ontime (I think) and even spawned a threequel. No joke, Transformers had more hype going in than GI Joe 2, heck maybe even Battleship had more, but a delay of almost a year just sounds insurmountable to me. The stink of their stage fright isn't going to go away, and I suspect a lot of people who thought this would be bad are now certain of it. At least they pushed it to March and not the dead zone of February (but still not prime movie release territory like June).

It'd be funny if they're waiting to see how TDKR does to know if they should offer more cash to Joseph Gordon Levitt to cameo as Cobra Commander in the reshoots (I don't think they will, it's just funny to think that might cross their minds).

Not to sound like a cynical jerk, but honestly:

*Was anyone surprised Battleship fell on it's face? It's a movie that uses a STRATEGY BOARD GAME LICENSE. They slapped the name on a horrible sci fi channel DTV movie, put in
a few respectable names along with flavor of the month pop music stars. Why anyone would think this would be cinematic gold baffles me.

*While not as reviled as the Transformers movies, the first GIJoe movie was barely even passable. Nobody I know liked it, and I have family who love almost anything put on celluloid.
I don't see how adding The Rock into the mix automatically makes it a good movie. Everyone should have realistically had low expectations anyway.

*The article says some of the film will be re shot so maybe they got some critics to look at it early, so they could fill some plotholes, re shoot confusing scenes before slapping on the 3d (which
probably won't be very good 3d since the film was already apparently shot with 2d cameras)

*As others have said the studio also has to compete with Marvel, and DC movies that will likely trounce it in ticket sales anyhow. So pushing back until their buzz is over with
    makes biz sense.

*For some real hilarity watch Angry Joe's review of the Battleship The game based on a movie loosley based on a game.

While I felt making the Rock into G.I. Joe's version of Ethan Hunt was a poor idea, I was still kinda looking forward to this since I enjoyed the first movie. I'm shocked! I've never heard of a movie with millions of dollars spent on ads & merchandise to get pushed back 9 months only 1 month before its release.

I saw both of them. Avengers had nothing to do with their poor performance. Acting & writing is the reason IMO.

WTH? Retaliation looked like we were finally going to be able to see a decent Joe film. And now they're pushing it back to do a post 3-D conversion? 3-D is not that impressive and post conversion is even less so.

As for the other movies, I'm reading the novelization of Battleship and nearing the end. What I'm reading I'm liking and considering Peter David works pretty close to the source material (i.e. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk) I will be seeing it. I've seen Avengers once, I liked it and will buy it on Blu-ray when it comes out. But I'm not going to pay the theaters anymore of my money to see it again.

I'm going to see Dark Shadows tonight.

Hasbro should just take the Mattel business plan and make GI Joe an online collectors toyline.

The fact that the movie has been pushed back is a red flag if ever I saw one. I was really looking forward to the movie.

Is that something that all studios will do now? Be afraid of the big bad Avengers movie? If any film goer goes in expecting a movie to be as good as the Avengers then they have no one else to blame but themselves

This is a funny move. Next March is actually incredibly crowded already, so that just makes it stranger than it already is. Apparently Paramount said one of the reasons is to capitalise on the success of 3D films internationally. Whereas that is very true, I just wonder why we're hearing about it a month before release in the States. Maybe Battleship flopping would have played a part, but then other than the fact that Hasbro are involved, that and GI Joe really have nothing in common. Something like GI Joe, like Transformers, is a different beast, as it has a mythology already in place, a story and characters to draw from and a big fanbase to back it up, which are things that Battleship didn't have. So I don’t think Battleship flopping has got anything to do with this. At least it shouldn’t have.

But yeah, weird move, because next March is actually vey crowded itself.

I thought both Dark Shadows & Battleship had good first half hours. For me, Dark Shadows was hurt by an uneven tone, unfunny gags & some out of place crass material. It looked good though. Battleship was hurt by giving me things I've already seen in more entertaining movies as well as a bunch on non-actors a lot of screen time(especially Rihanna). The guy from John Carter & Liam Neeson were good in it for the material they were given.

Why? Even a poor-selling movie line at retail makes more money than MOTUC does in a year. And if it sells above minimum it sells for a LOT more money.

I didn't mean movie line, I meant vintage representations. I should have made myself more clearer.

GI Joe has a pretty loyal fanbase but I am pretty sure they would rather see the Kwinn figure get released instead of Arashikage Roadblock. Well, that is my opinion anyway

As a HUGE GI Joe fan (my only passion equal to MOTU) this news has left me furious. I hate the 3D garbage when it's "Converted in post". Do it right the first time or don't bother. I thought GI Joe was supposed to know, what with it being half the battle and all...

Holy NUTS!!! This is crazy, to be honest I didn't care for the first movie. They slaughtered some of my favorite characters. Scarlet having the hots for Ripcord, Baroness being Duke's love interest plus no Russian accent???, both Cobra Commander and Destro were horrible, Zartan was a joke as well. The only characters that I thought were done justice was Snake-eyes and Storm Shadow. When will studios learn that when you change the characters and concepts you lose what made that property special to begin with.

This is why part of me is very nervous about a Masters feature film. Wow, the toys are streetdated for 5/28 Hasbro has to be pretty ****** off right now.

Let it be known that I'm not a fan of 3D whatsoever. To me, it just makes the movie too difficult to follow and too difficult to focus on anything. It's more of a distraction than anything. That said, to delay a movie 9 months just because they want to tack on this garbage is utterly ridiculous. If they want to do this to appeal more to the international market, then, by all means, delay the international release... but for cryin' out loud, just go ahead and release the finished 2D version in America in the meantime! Are they afraid of too much pirating or something?

I'm not even a huge GI Joe fan, but this delay irritates me. 3D just needs to go away like it did in the 80's.
