If Flint were just as empowered as Duke then why was he not in the first movie leading the team? Its the movie verse and you just need to accept that origin stories have to happen for the film to progress, its the downside to a major motion picture imho

I wonder if Roadblock will rap, I would die if he did
I'm ok with movies changing established continuity, *I* just don't want Flint to be a "N00B"

If the Rock breaks into some "Make no mistake, we gonna kill some snakes!" diatribe I just might lose it...

Classic example of the latter is a captain of a ship, while aboard the captain's ship can have higher authority than someone who technically outranks him.

You can also be the highest command over a special forces unit, and have a higher rank but not have authority over someone of a lower rank.

And about them being 'green,' the first movie was an origin. Why movie adaptations always have to start with an origin is beyond me. To make matters worse, this again following the comic theme, the bad guys have invaded their lair (granted the White House isn't exactly their lair but still).
I'm good with the "new spin" on the property, I just *personally* would rather see RB as a supporting character (quiet, thoughtful muscle) and Flint as the brash leader with a "cockeyed grin"

Could still technically be that, The Rock tends to get overplayed in movie trailers when he is in a film. I mentioned Doom, but this also happened with The Mummy Returns.

This does not, however, actually address Chain of Command....

    http://www.yojoe.com/faq/gifaq.shtml#h2

"2. What is the G.I.Joe Chain of Command?

On the filecards, all the characters were given ranks from E-4 Corporals to Generals and Admirals. So perhaps you could rank them this way.

But in the cartoon, a clear cut chain of command was established in the episode, "The Most Dangerous Thing in the World". This chain of command went from General Hawk, to Duke, to Flint, then to Beachhead and Sgt. Slaughter.

But in the comic book, a then Colonel Hawk took his orders from General Austin and General Flagg. After he was promoted to acting commander of G.I.Joe, Duke was named field commander of G.I.Joe. When Hawk was promoted to General, he somehow returned to field duty again.

But in the toys, just to make it interesting, General Hawk wasn't the only general. General Flagg was released and an Admiral Keel-Haul was released.

Some have speculated (quite extensively, I might add) that the chain-of-command depended highly on the situation. Certain specialists might lead missions because of their expertise in that area - or certain men or women might be placed in charge due to seniority.

The truth is that there is no real clear-cut answer."
In the second mini series of the cartoon, G.I. Joe: The Revenge of Cobra (1984 mini-series) (aka: The Weather Dominator) Duke was captured.
after he was captured Flint was in charge and when Flint went MIA, Scarlett was in charge.

I never paid attention to the grades on the file cards, for me it went Duke, Flint, Scarlett as the chain of command. And for Cobra it was Cobra Commander then The Baroness, and Destro although he was a weapons supplier not really a leader of Cobra.

Also lets not forget that Flint was never the balls to the walls heavy artillery type of person, in the comics and cartoon he was more of a leader than a fighter.

If I were in a team with a Rambo like personality like Heavy Duty, Roadblock, or Sgt Slaughter I would totally let them whip ass while I sat back and commanded

In this movie the hierarchy of Cobra seems to be Cobra Commander --->Baroness-->Firefly with Zartan and Storm Shadow as assassins/special agents

In the cartoon is it was CC-->Destro-->Baroness/Major Bludd

So from what we have seen of Cobra in that trailer, seems their setup is keeping in line with the core material

    Confirmation Of Cobra Commander

Just to say, one of the film’s writers posts over at the Hiss Tank forums and he confirmed today that the mysterious figure seen with a chrome helmet is in deed none other than Cobra Commander himself. So we now know for certain that he’s back.

I wonder if Destro is also returning.....

If I had to guess from the trailer, it seems that Storm Shadow rescues Cobra Commander, but not Destro from his chamber.

That was my guess so far. Some sorta stasis suits in fluid-filled containers that possibly holds Cobra Commander and Destro; hence the identical white suits we're seeing. I'm assuming Cobra Commander then decides to create his iconic helmet off of the design of that white suit he's in.

First: This movie looks all sorts of awesome. This is now third on my most anticipated movies for 2012 (behind The Hobbit and Dark Knight Rises).

Second: Why are so many people saying Duke dies? I see him jumping down the well and then you see the bullets go past his face underwater. It looks like he barely excapes death, but that he does indeed live. Am I seeing it wrong? To me, it looks like Duke is seperated from Roadblock and the others.

I have to look again, that looked like Roadblocks face underwater. But I do agree, the problem is he is present during the first part of the trailer till that point. The base is attacked which looks like he is present, then there is a statement we are all that is left and you don't see Duke walking away.

Just watched it again, that is Roadblock. Also the person who he takes dogtags off of has sideburns which Duke doesn't have.

As I always preface,I'm not a big Joe fan, but I like how this looks, Duke possibly dead I'm in! that's what got me excited about the cobra-la movie, for some reason I always hated duke. and the Rock kicking ass, again I'm in! lipless snake eyes, I'm in! so that's already a 3 star review! Cobra Commander with his proper face mask, a great bonus, I loved the design of that character!

I would love it if Roadblock did at LEAST ONE rhyme. just for a throwback.

Oh, I see, you're right about Roadblock in the well. Huh.

Well, there is still no definite look as to what happened to Duke, it is all based on the assumption that you see three soldiers walk away from the attack stating they are all that's left. I'm guessing Duke gets captured, not killed.

Personally, I have never and will never look to the 80's cartoons as canon. I can’t take the ‘Toon’s CoC seriously when they have every member of the team, from foot soldier to swimmer, mechanic to ninja, flying a Skystriker (solo and sans helmet no less) amoung other absurd things.

I'm a card carrying lover of the "Hamaverse". At least he tried to add a little realism to the suspension of disbelief…..

As for Duke; I've honestly never understood why Duke is the posterboy for the line. He was, seemingly, created to be a bad ass field leader who could be a top of the 2nd tier character..... Not the bulletproof boyscout he became.

    I he's dead? Good riddance.

Snake Eyes doesn't appear to be present when Roadblock says "we're all that's left," either, so I guess it's possible Duke survives, too. It's also possible that the line is taken from another scene and played over the footage of the three soldiers and is out of context.

Regardless of whether or not Duke bites it, it looks like the focus will be on Snake Eyes and a new group of Joes for the bulk of the film, and I think that is a good thing. The Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow subplot is the only thing from the first movie I'm interested in seeing continue into the next one.

Snake eyes is not present but he is alsoshownbeing taken into custody before hand, if that part of the trailer is in order anyway.

I like Cobra Commander and the Cobra Trooper, I wish the Rock's figure was bigger in the body. I have not bought GI Joe in about 2 years so I will probably still stay away.
