Latest news from Sony (100% official)

    From over at Bleedingcool.com:

    http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/12/...el-washington/

Despite the writer of the article's obvious dismissal of the franchise, it's good to see some movement from Sony, I think.

    a good news.

well Sony and Escape Artist have announced their renewed partnership until 2015 ,I guess that means the movie is coming for 2014 or 2015.

Yeah, I don’t fancy the journalists “sense of humour”. But yeah, this is definitely good news.

I do find it a bit of a letdown how no one else but the few us come to this board, though. Isn’t anyone else interested in the movie? Bit of a shame. This could potentially be the biggest thing to ever happen to the MOTU brand.

Well, I’m not getting too ahead of myself just yet. It isn’t a stonewall confirmation that the film is happening for sure. However, this is pretty good news and confirmation at least that it is moving forward. Otherwise they wouldn’t put it in their press-release. I would have been alarmed if news of the extension broke, but MOTU wasn’t mentioned as an upcoming project. The fact that it is is superb news.

What it does mean, though, is that if the film happens it will either happen in 2014 or 2015. Out of those two, I would bet on 2015.

    Tired of waiting for Hollywood.

I think a great many people are anxious for a Masters movie.
..they just dont want hollywood to mess it up.

when the film is confirmed this board will be on fire.

If this continues, I think the next news should be the final confirmation of the movie

I guess you’re right. Can't wait for that to happen.

Hopefully we hear a director announcement soon. It wouldn’t surprise me if we also hear news of another writers(s) coming on board to polish the script. Again, even though news of new writers would get everyone round here in a state, with cries of “development hell” and "it will never happen", it’s not unheard of for these sorts of films to have numerous writers before they actually start filming. So I’ve already mentally prepared myself to hear of a new writer coming on board, but I would prefer a director announcement. I’m just very nervous about who gets the job.

Ehhh...we've been hearing this for years. First it was John Woo, then Joel Silver, then the Justin Marks script, then the dude that directed Kung Fu Panda.

I'll believe it when they announce a release date and have a director attached.

At least the project isn't dead and buried - someone out there is fighting for it to be made.

Its positive to see that it progressing - even though its happening without much fanfare - but I agree, when the project gets greenlit - the forum will be alive for sure.

I just watched the original again in HD on one of the movie channels for the first time in years..

Despite reducing it to it's core action elements, it really WASN'T all that bad an attempt.... Things so simple to do now, that had to be left out then, means that a real MOTU movie should be much cooler than the 80's one.

Now we can have Adam and he-Man seperate. Now we can have a real castle greyskull. Fans have the technology to do a transformation sequence, never mind what hollywood can do.

If they can base it off the cartoon, jump right into adventure, have an orchestra do the cartoon music in the form of remix.... they could have a huge nostalgia hit. Even more if they re-cast alan and John to voice he-man and skeletor

Part of what they will need to do is to find actors/actresses that dont mind being an animal face, and won't let their agent sue the production company for not showing a certain % of their face.

You'll never get Snout Spout, or King Chomp, or Lobstermen piates in the movie if the performers insist on showing their faces.

..Now Robotech is a movie with faces,, I would hire musical giants,, famous and acomplished and powerful band members.

(Sting and Stewart Copland can flip for the role of Major Folker.)

honestly i think most have gave up on the movie, between the lack of news and all the crap going on with classics i wouldnt be surprised if a lot of fans said sod it, to the entire franchise

Kind of how they got Peter Cullen and Frank Welker back for Transformers Prime. I personally am all for a cartoon movie but a live action movie would probably make more money if done properly.

Which guys? Escape Artists, or Sony? We haven’t even got a director yet. Negativity without anything to go on and seemingly just for the sake of it has always confused me.

Why always this negative trend about hollywood?
Why always think of Bayformers, rise of cobra or batman and robin ?
Why not think of LOTR, POTC or Thor?

I know it’s not much, but the press release is on the Sony Pictures website. Looks good seeing Masters of the Universe on their official site:

Not to be negative... but there isn't even a solid script yet.
I do wish there'd be an updated with state of the art CGI MOTU movie soon, but has it has been posted above, the clkosest date seems to be 2014

This just confirms that the project is still stuck in development hell where it could possibly languish for another decade before being resuscitated. I wouldn't hold my breath.
