What does the upcoming MOTU film do for the toyline? Surely we would get a new mass market merchandise line that ties in with the film.

Alex Litvak very briefly mentioned the "He-Man" movie about half-way through this podcast interview. There's also a MOTU-related question in the last few minutes.

Thanks, Tallstar.I listened to quite a good chunk of the interview and apart from saying “I just finished another draft of the He-Man movie for Sony Pictures” I don’t think he mentions MOTU at all. Quite encouraging, though, considering the interview page is dated yesterday. It’s a shame the interviewer didn’t press him for more MOTU details, although its quite possible he was told beforehand that Litvak couldn’t give any answers even if he wanted to.
good news .
hmm intersenting "another draft"
I think the situation of the movie should have a final decision this year, for good things or bad things, sony can not stretch over the rope, they has the rights since 2009.

True. I think that if we don’t hear anything “official” either directly from Sony Pictures or Escape Artists this year, then I don’t think they’ll go ahead with it. The thing about Hollywood is, things never truly die, they just disappear for a certain amount of time, and that’s where the term “Development Hell” comes from.
Thing is, at least we have a sort of time-frame to go by, because we know that Escape Artists have extended their deal with Sony Pictures till 2015. So basically they will be making films with Sony for another four years. So if the MOTU film does come to fruition at Sony Pictures we know that it must come out in either 2014 or 2015, more than likely the latter. That’s why I believe that if we don’t hear anything official this year, I don’t think Sony will go ahead with the film.
I noticed the bit where he says Tri-Clops is a better/more important vilan than MerMan.
..this tells me that he is as confused as the filmation people seem to have been in telling a good story.
Because, you see, Tri-Clops is an unexplainable character and seems consistantly lost, always looking in three different directions.
You seem like a super nice guy Paul, and with that being said PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE never step near a MOTU movie lol!
Yeah I'd assume Sony will be forced to option it as one of the projects that is part of the extended deal- with Avengers having been such a success I'm thinking Hollywood is looking for the next big action blockbuster that has a built in fan base AND has potential for innuendo and humor as well.

Here's a thought I had: what if The Amazing Spider-man does not do that well in the box office? I mean, what if Sony loses money on it? Would that have any ripple-down effect on the possibilities of other genre movies?
"Everything comes to he who waits."
I really think you shouldn't worry about that. Spider-Man will make a lot of money. I know fans are very dubious of a reboot so soon, but the general audience couldn't care less. They just see a new Spider-Man film. It will probably take a hit domestically, but the international numbers will be huge.
Well, I think you may be partly right. Between Avengers and Dark Knight Rises, I really don't think the latest Spider-Man will do that well. Internationally, though, it will make a profit for the studio. BUT: studio execs are still old school-thinkers: they will get nervous over a poor domestic showing even if they make a profit over-seas. That's why I fear MotU's future in the movies at Sony depends on Spider-man. And it's not a good thing.

..besides I cant work on a Masters movie if they dont ask me too.
Which would be good.![]()
If the rumours that GI JOE Retaliation has been bumped to next year for 'retooling' because it's an absolute stinker are ture, toy movies may suddenly become the black sheep of Hollywood.
I survived the 2013 sub ordeal!
"We achieved the impossible, and that makes us MIGHTY" (Mal Reynolds, captain of Serenity)
..Theres ALOT of reasons that GI Joe stinks. ALOT.
The best way of telling a story, or making a movie of GI Joe is to make it a comedy about war.
..(instead of making it a joke)

True. The Avengers’ success has pretty much destroyed everything. Not just Battleship, but pretty much every new film that has opened since it was released has underperformed. It’s even affected MIB 3 to an extent, although no way near as badly. One of the biggest examples of this is what happened to Battleship internationally. When it opened, it was huge and was tracking to exceed 300 million dollars in ticket sales. In its first weekend it made 55 million, without even opening everywhere. In its second weekend it made a whopping 60 million. Then in its third weekend it went right down to 23 million. What happened between its second and third weekends? The Avengers was released globally. Doesn’t take a genius to figure out what happened. Battleship would have made more if not for The Avengers. I’ve seen it and, whereas it isn’t a great film by any means, it is a typical crowd-pleaser that usually makes money. Overseas you can't really call it a flop, as it has so far amassed 233 million dollars, but domestically the numbers are abysmal. Still, it will probably get to 300 million worldwide, but not much more than that. On a 209 million budget, that’s pretty terrible.
Also, in terms of toy adaptations, there’s only been one all-out flop so far: Battleship. And I think it’s worth saying that that is the one that was estimated to flop from day one, because there’s nothing really to back it up. A MOTU adaptation would fall into the same beneficial category as the GI Joe or Transformers films. Something that has spawned much more than just toys, something that already has a deep mythology and characters to work off of, something that already has a built-in fanbase and, more importantly, something that has limitless merchandising possibilities. Battleship didn’t have any of these things, which is the main reason why a lot of analysts thought it was a bad idea from day one.
Those benefits that I’ve just listed are the kind of things that Hollywood studios love, because they don’t really have to do much work. I know that sounds shallow, but it’s the truth.

,,BattleShip originaly came with an instruction book.
You could read that.
(it wont help that Liam Neason was only in the movie for 3 seconds though)
