The shoulders totally go forward. They are just as articulated as any other female.
Thanks for that valuable info, Toyguru. I like the overall look and colors of the Sorceress, and hope she'll be a fantastic figure.

I think it is great the team made some more efforts to improve her. She truly deserves it.

Draego Man is absolutely awesome ! PLEASE don't ruin him with bad QC !

No they can't, not the way Eric designed. But Scott said they couldn't afford to tool the new bicep piece. If any figure deserved a slightly bigger budget, this one did.

They are making two versions of her - won't that help pay for it? They can use the piece on The Enchantress, Young Lyn (200X), Starburst She-Ra (though it's probably better to have the cape removable on her).

It's an obnoxious sentiment. $20 is NOT cheap.
It is when you take into the rising cost to produce these figures. 20.00 is a 2008 price. It is now almost 2012. Mattel has had TWO company wide price increases since 2008 that we skipped for MOTUC to keep costs down for fans. At this point, we have to raise prices (for non sub holders in 2012) or we will have to kill the line. Labor and deco costs have skyrocketed in the last 3 years!

I never said that. Stop putting words in my mouth. The change to not attaching the wing at the bicept and only the shoulder was not a tool or cost saver, it was to make the toy hold together and articulate.

The Horsemen are sculptors, and great ones. They are not engineers. Terry and David Strom work with the Horsemen to translate their sculpt into an actual toy. If you want a staction, we could reproduce the toy closer to the Horsemen sculpt. If you want an articulated toy, adjustments are ALWAYS made from sculpt to toy.

$20 in 2008 was a lot then too, but we paid it because it's a limited line.

I understand what you're saying. But do you not understand how it sounds when a rep from the biggest toy company in the works cries poorhouse??

That's what I'm talking about. The cost is high, Scott, we know that, and we know the reasons.

I don't want to hear about it in a video that's supposed to be a salve for the December delay (admittedly a good move).

I'm not trying to be mean here. I give you props a lot.

I just don't want a guilt trip about the cost of figure.
Especially when I have $14 charged for shipping pending in my Club Eternia Sorceress AND my 30th Anniversary Photog. We spend a lot on shipping and tax... So you have to bear that in mind too.

*ToyGuru attempts to pose Sorceress' wings and arms, but has difficulty*

    "Isn't that cool?"

It would be cooler - and more practical - if it was a piece of fabric, that clips onto her wrists. So, you know, she could sit. And raise her arms without having sections of plastic dangling below them nonsensically.

    But what do I know?

You're losing your shirts on Draego-Man?

Well that is YOUR choice, Mattel.

And give me a break. I'm sure repaint Evil-Lyn, repaint MAA, and the fact that at least 60% of the pieces in this line are all reused (not a bad thing) will make up for that.

The fact that the video was all about Scott and not about close-ups of the figures just goes to show that we aren't supposed to see the Sorceress close-up.

And what is he talking about with the "magical" commonality between Shadow Weaver and Orko?? That makes no sense. She's too dark. Someone suggested that they must have cast two figures with that color to save money. I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm just glad we are getting her.

I'm sick to death of hearing Scott lament that we are only paying $20 for figures.

Man, do we really have to take only the dark side of everything Toyguru says?...
This is your opinion and of course I respect it..but that video made me so happy..I can't believe it's been welcomed by such grumpy comments

So do the wings move forward too when you move her arms forward? I would assume they have to due to the construction.

I won't pose her like that anyway, but I guess it would look odd. Like she has these big feather planks sticking out.

...and whats up with the Grayskull box Scott? And is that a Star Trek Communicator back there too?

It's sad but $20 is practically a bargain these days for these figures. A mass-market line like Young Justice retails for $20 or so ($25 at TRU for a while for some reason!) just to prove the point. So paying $20 for low-run figures isn't so bad. I pay about $25 for the Doctor Who classics figures like Leela because of low production runs, and she's about half the size of MOTU figures.

If the prices are too much now, it's best to bail because they are only going to get worse. Labor in China is CRAZY right now. It's still cheaper to produce over there, obviously, but it just keeps going up and up. You're going to see any manufactured good go up in price. If it hasn't already, it probably means the company was making enough margin that they had some cushion to eat it for a while. But that can't last forever.

Now, when you add on shipping it's more of a problem but that can't really be helped unless Mattel implements some "Pot of Gold" system where fans could hold their purchased items until they wanted to ship them. I can imagine the logistics (that's the only word for it, don't kill me!) would be difficult as far as storing and managing stock. BBTS makes it work so it would be nice if it were explored at least.

In am really happy with the job you all (FH, Terry and David Strom, the rest of the team any you) did and do.

But I also hope the tubes on the Sorceress' back are not that notable!

    DM looks so awesome!

I was fine with the prototype SW colour, but I like the darker one, too.

Thanx for the great work TG and Co.

That Castle Grayskull box in the background complimented the other visual aesthetics of the shot. The other mise en scene elements were strong but I felt the overall tone of the video was to convey the hegemonic negotiations between Mattel and it's fan base.

Maybe I'm just reading too far into the text

I am not complaining about paying $20.

I'm complaining about Mattel laying on the guilt-trip.

Love the Filmation-like pose the way the feathers go up like that! Great work on that! Hopefully she doesn't look too BIG in front of my VINTAGE Castle Grayskull!!! ahem!

Dunno why people are ****** about the pegs in the back that hold her wings...that is the main pose the Sorceress needs to be in....facing forward, wings up, like the Filmation intro! Don't really care about a spell casting hand that much either. It would have been nice, but not really a big deal.

Scott, you just reminded me about something that I forgot to mention with regard to Tallstar in my review thread. - Because of the size of the shoulder pieces, her arms can't be raised laterally more than approx. 50 degrees or so. You have to rotate the arms to get them to go higher.

If you're interpreting an off the cuff aside about the cost as a guilt trip, I think you're revealing more about the listener rather than the speaker.

I don't think this was a dig, just a little aside. It sounds like they are either breaking even or making little margin. I mean, it's hard to imagine they are actually LOSING money on the figure. Just because I can't imagine them actually making him in that case. But even if it's the other two it's pretty cool for a company to swallow some loss to produce a figure to the standard customers want.

What's the harm in pointing that out?

Alright, now that I've seen it...it's pretty neat. The Sorceress looks great.

Although I was highly irritated when Toyguru said he couldn't believe they were only charging us $20 for Draego Man. My first thought was I can't believe you lied about the quarterly variants and are charging me $20 for BG Evil Lyn who is a purple Teela repaint.

The video is okay, I was more excited about Draego Man.

I´m not a fan of the drums, but I´ll pose her face-forward. She`s also not a favorite of mine, so I`m not that upset.

The unfolding of the wings does look rather neat. Good job !!!

And man, Draego Man is HUGE !!! I really hope they make enough of him because he will sell like crazy
