I'm really looking forward to this and as other have said, I'm glad to see that this is still in fact going to be part of the Alien series despite the official line that its not. I was so disappointed when Scott first said it was no longer an Alien prequel but a standalone film.

Prometheus could have done a great thing for the alien(s) property to have a reboot without having to scrub canon and move away from (by that I mean give people a reason to forget) the last two alien movies and AvP movies.

    The trailer looks scary awesome.
It's great being Lord of the Thundercats - especially hanging out with Cheetara - but the one draw back is that He-Man can still beat me up.

Hahaha, I know what the words mean, but how is it related to the Alien-Saga/Prometheus?

Some guys seem to know more about this franchise.

all i know is that the movie will center around humanities first encounter with the space jockeys from alien. i have seen nothing to suggest that we will see a xenomorph in this film. people are assuming that this story will directly precede alien, but there may be 1 or more sequels that happen between the 2. what ridley means by this movie sharing "DNA" with alien is that it takes place in the same world and will explore the themes further...it doesn't mean that we're going to see a xenomorph or that this story is even meant to set that up aside from giving us background on the space jockeys.

and i'm pretty sure cameron is over aliens at this point...he's got bigger fish to fry. my problem with aliens has a lot to do with the fanbase of that film insisting that all follow ups should have involved the colonial marines. i'm glad fincher took alien back to it's roots. if anything, prometheus may render aliens itself obsolete as scott has his own ideas about the alien lifecycle which had little to do with cameron's ideas in aliens. this is of course assuming that we even see a xenomorph, which again, i wouldn't count on...

the film is certainly a prequel...but i have a feeling people are going to be disappointed if they go in expecting the movie to feature the xenomorphs...if anyone has seen otherwise please let me know where that info comes from.

If you look at the on set scenes you will see Xenomorphs are in this, just not quite in the same form we have them in Alien (mainly because I assume of what happens in this movie or shortly following this movie)

There is some stills where you can actually see some dead Xenomorph bodies in one of the tombs they are exploring. I will see if I can find the on set pictures

What I am guessing is the "this is not a prequel" denials and talk is solely to not ruin whatever plot twist or surprise the story has, I mean in the age of the internet to deliver a surprise is truly rare.

It also could be Scott is leaving it open ended, where you can logically conclude the things we see in this movie "turn" into the Aliens we know from the other movies but they won't go as far as to concretely say YES THESE ARE THE SAME if that makes sense

The sound we hear throughout most of the trailer is from the Alien trailer.....which I'm sure I'm not the only one that picked up on that. :P
I loved growing up in the 80's....wish my kids someday could experience the same thing....

This is NOT the same ship from Alien. Two things mark this: 1. The ship's arms are not the same as the one on Archeron/LV-426. Also, the Space Jockey's chair in the trailer is clearly functioning, whereas the Space Jockey in Alien was fossilized, which means the ship on LV-426 had been there for a long, long, long time. Prometheus is supposedly set about 30 years before Ripley's time.
The poster under your original (non-quoted) statement addressed your comments already but I'll interject a few more thoughts.

Remember this series of films is from a time in which aliens use acid for blood, people can essentially hibernate for long periods of time w/o aging, mining on planets deep in space is common, etc..., In a fantasy world, our rational thinking doesn't necessarily have a place. Whether or not the ship and jockey turn out to be the ones we've known from Alien, the similarities are quite interesting and will definitely add to this film.

Seems Scott gave an interview recently

An interesting interview has been translated out of a Hungarian news outlet where Prometheus director Ridley Scott reveals a major connection between his 1979 Alien and the forthcoming prequel arriving in theaters June 8.

"When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well."

Even though Ridley states there's no other connection, the trailer itself features the Alien Space Jockey. He's either lying, forgot or just delusional.
That just makes me believe even more he is intending to leave it open ended to where the alien we see in this movie is what will become the ones we know from Alien and Aliens but he avoids the outright connection

It's funny how the Company from Alien has now officially become Weyland. You'll notice in both the movie and the novelization of Alien it was never named. Just 'The Company.'

It's been Wayland Yutani for a long time though. I don't remember if the name appeared with the Egyptian style logo in Alien, but it was definitely shown as the company's name in Aliens. Just like Emperor Palpatine, these things cannot retain a generic name forever. Plus it's not like there aren't many similar evil companies in SF that it couldn't be confused with--Encom, Cyberdine, Omni Consumer Products etc.

so it is a movie set in the Alien universe but according to the director there will be no Xenomorphs in it?

    Pass.

I loved the Alien movies because of the Xenomorphs so having a movie in their universe without them in it is not just a fail...not just an epic fail

If you believe we won't see what becomes the Aliens then I have a bridge to sell you

You truly think Scott is going to tell people before the movie comes what is going to happen in it (smh). They won't be the focal point but from on-set leaks and pics taken during filming they are pretty much there along with the Space Jockeys.

New viral video came today, it appears to be possibly the prescursor to Bishop
